These guys keep calling and calling every single day leaving nasty messages.
THey are collecting on student loans for Dept. of Ed.... When i finally spoke to them they kept telling me to pay something I couldnt afford. They wanted me to open a bank account and do all sorts of stuff that I WASNT WILLING TO DO.... I kept saying NO but they kept callling my work and calling my bosses.... Kept telling me that I was gonna get garnished...
    I finally got fed up...

    MAN I LOVE THE INTERNET...
I found some book called "The student loan blue print" written by a collector
I usually hate collectors but the book explained what i needed to do...
It boiled down to the fact that these collection agencies are just OUT TO GET MY MONEY....
I have 2 kids and my work cut my hours.... I was on the verge of getting laidoff.... and these guys were not listening....
Anyways... Just do your research... I did my research and it saved my family... I sleep better at night....Seriously..

    Bob,
I'm a collector for Progressive and legitimately try to assist every person I can.  The trouble I have with your response is that you sleep better knowing you have a fed debt.  You will very likely get garnished for 15-25% of your income, your refusal to pay is probably documented.   And all the penalties and fees stay in place and are paid before they apply to your balance.  its the opposite if you make voluntary arrangements.

You sleep better at night knowing you have a federal student loan debt? its accruing interest, penalties, default surcharges and  you have your employer id/ssn flagged for litigations or garnishments while going through life with federal taxes taken and rebates taken, and federal programs your ineligible for denied and on and on.  seriously? and they will not stop because fed debts are not dischargeable (same rules as child support, alimony, and the IRS) unless your 100% disabled or dead.

There are numerous programs you could be trying to take advantage of and any settlement saves you significant money and your arrangement will never be lower than what it is today because of the accruing interest and fees.  The Dept of Education is willing to work with anyone who wants to be helped.  The collections are resorted to when you go into default for an extended period of time (regardless of which company is contracted at the time to do them) will continue indefinately even when your elderly, and your social security check is missing money or you can't sell your house or your travel visas are frozen or your business license is pulled, or,... you get the picture.  It's not even a threat, it's really what happens when the government gives up on its investment it made in you.  At least you have a family life while some kid somewhere gets denied the advantage of a federal school loan .

Bill, please... you work for Progressive as a collector and when you don't have that job security you'll be in the same boat, maybe not a fed debt, but a debt nonetheless ...you're simply trying to get paid so that you can take care of your family. Maybe you don't have an outstanding student loan, but whatever debt you do owe is paid by what you collect from your job. And if the income can only pay for the necessities for your family then that's all YOU can pay.

They have called several times looking for a gentleman who I have no connection to. I've told them several times that I am the only person registered to this cell phone and that I don't know the man they are trying to reach. I've been told twice by two different collectors that I will be removed from their call list but I just received another call. I am on the Do Not Call list & I have reported them to the Better Business Bureau.

What a crock, the typical "fear" scam. I had a 5k loan over 25 years ago and paid 10k on it, then decided you are all just a bunch of crooks. It has been disputed since my school refused to return money after I withdrew. Now you sob's are looking for 15k more. Get it when I die.
Go tell the fed to pay their own debts - at 15 trillion, they sure don't lead by example.

Also, your collection process is illegal - you call three times per day and leave messages on my relatives machines. I am filing an FTC complaint with time stamped digital recordings.

Sorry to hear that you think you don't pay your bill when you withdrew from school... if you ever attended a class you OWE the money... the Department of education or the finance company that HELPED YOUR GET WHAT YOU WANTED isn't held responsible for your problems of life.  The only way the Deparment of education will forgive you is if you applied for classes and the school closed down before you attend.  Now, if you work and they FINALLY take your taxes, YOU ARENT PAYING ANYTHING BUT FEES AND PENALTIES for be a knucklehead (This is an involuntary offset). It won't stop till you make Voluntary arrangements .   GET IT WHEN YOU DIE... Please!!!  You are stuck with DOE till you die.  Don't blame anyone but yourself for your own shortcomings.  Don't look at anyone but the person in your mirror.. Tired of people calling any bill collector scammers.  ITS CALLED PAY YOUR BILL LIKE YOU ARE SUPPOSE TO DO AND A BILL COLLECTOR WILL NEVER CALL YOU ANYWAY.... SO RUN RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN..... Notice also your bill get higher even if they take  your taxes dummy.  all the interests and fees for the whole year accumulate.  Try and learn something about being responsible...

Wow, you are such an [***].  You probably think your postering and screaming is somehow impressive... or intimidating.  It's pathetic.  People don't pay because they have NO money.  Get it?  WTF is wrong with people like you??  It's sick.

I haven't had a job since 2009 due to fighting cancer, and yet I'm getting calls from you people for a debt of $14,000 for ONE class.  And yeah, that doesn't include any interest or penalties.  Tell me how ONE class cost $14 grand?

Harassing me or others won't get you any money.  Calling people's work is ILLEGAL.  Calling relatives and harassing them is ILLEGAL.  Calling multiple times in a day is ILLEGAL.

So just shut up.  Go away.  Why would anyone want to work with you?  You are nothing but a disgusting bully.

People really need to learn what is allowed when it comes to debt collecting.

The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) restricts collection agency calls in many ways. Illegal practices include calling you before 8 a.m. or after 9 p.m., discussing your bill with anyone other than you, your spouse or your attorney, threatening you with harm, using profanities and purposely harassing you with repeated calls, according to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). Debt collectors are forbidden from threatening you with arrest and jail or saying they will sue you unless they intend to follow through. You have a right to report them if they use illegal tactics.

Ryan Henry from Progressive Financial Services calls and asks for Social Security Number.
Do not under any circumstances give someone you do not know or call your Social Security Number.
The only time you should give out your Social Security Number is if you place the call. For example, if you receive a call from your bank get a phone number and call them back. You never know who is calling so never give out personal information.

I never found out what the call was about because I did not let it continue beyond that point.

You stupid son-of-a-[***]!  You do get calls even when you do not owe a student loan. These parasites call phone numbers that used to belong to someone else, and if you are even a remote relative they will harass you.

This is utterly ridiculous.  I talked to the Progressive Financial Services people in an attempt to get my debt worked out, they said they would send me paperwork about payment options.  All they sent me was an envelope and info of how to send them a check and my balance.  That is not "payment options".  And I only recently got a job, so my bank account had long ago been closed, meaning I now need to open a new one and I have not had a chance to do so as I cannot drive (health reasons) so it's difficult for me to wheedle a ride out of someone, or catch a bus that's running reliably on my days/hours off.  And of course, it requires the payment be in check.  No other tenders.

So I did agree to getting info about payment options (and then once received I could pay them back with whatever option I liked best),  yet the bill they sent me still included all of those fees and whatnot. Also included no options of any kind.  Just a way to send them money.

AND just today they called my work.  What the hell?!  They want me to pay off the debt but they are willing to jeopardize the job I have to get said money to pay them with just to call and harass me?  This needs to be illegal.  This is my work place.  It's not like it's my private office line or something either.  They didn't even say what company they were, just gave me a name and extension.

Is there anything I can do about this crap?  It honestly makes me not want to deal with them at all when they do things like this.
