This is USAA, I have an auto loan with them and my payment is due on the 1st, however if my payday doesn't fall within there 5 day grace I start to receive calls immediately.  Not to bad, but I'm surprise at how they are changing. I guess the bad economy.

You have no idea how much USAA has changed.  15 years ago, they were all about customer service, and about helping the military member.  Now, their customer service stinks, they aren't very helpful and they are quick to call you if you even think about paying late.
Last year,  while I was TDY, my wife forgot to pay my car insurance, so they called my cell, then my work, then my wife... HELLO!  I told them that I was going TDY and that nobody was driving my vehicle...  They knew that I was going TDY to Afghan...  WTF USAA!  In the military that's called sabotage, and during war its punishable by death under the Uniform Code of Military Justice!
Next time that I'm abroad defending freedom, I have to worry about bullets and missiles coming through the building, and about USAA calling my 1st Sergeant because my wife forgot to pay a bill.
If you're in the military, you can understand why I'm so bitter.  You know what happens when somebody calls at work because you owe them money!  Makes no difference if you're TDY and your spouse forgets to pay the insurance bill.   Yeah, I faxed USAA a copy of the letter of reprimand...  :-)

This makes me sad Rick. I used to work for USAA, and at that time, it was a great place to work, because the company cared SO MUCH about our military members. It seems that has changed under the direction of the new company president. I too have noticed the lack of customer service when dealing with USAA now. I hope that they get their act together and remember what USAA is all about. And in case no one there has said it, thank you Rick for your service. I am truly grateful for all that you have done and continue to do in the name of this great country!

    God Bless!

I've been with USAA that whole time, and I continue to receive phenomenal service.  They still set the bar for everybody else.  Sometimes keeping up with business can be tedious due to the nature of the beast.  Sorry to hear of your disappointment.

Don't answer the phone for Toll Free numbers.

Don't return a call if they don't leave a clear, detailed message.

If it's USAA, and they do leave a message, call them back.  While a bit challenging to deal with, if you are persistent they will work with you to ease a financial hardship.  They did with me, but it took some negotiating.

They became much more amenable to negotiating in the last 9 months.

Rick if you worked for a private company and usaa called your boss and said you were late on a payment you could sue them... your rights havent changed, within the private sector you still have that right. when I was active duty and was threatened by someone say they would call my boss I dared them to, I said you are right I will be in trouble but for that I will sue you, I still have rights as an american and I really like the car you drive so call my boss and I call a lawyer and get your car...

Actually, no they have not. Their loan dept reps refused to work out a late payment plan (10-15 days late payment requested). Only bank that I know of that refuses to work with their customers. But their debt collection group is quick to respond - 2 days after the payment was due, the "800" number calls began. USAA is certainly not interested in customer support.

I have to admit that Rick and many others' feelings are shared with my experience.  My wife and I have been paying 8.34% for our 2nd mortgage loan for the past 5 years!  We are moving on a PCS and asked if we could consolidate the primary and secondary loan and refinance under HARP so we could save BIG on monthly payments and rent our home.  They said: NO and referred me to a government program.  GMAC helped us with the HARP to adjust the interest down to 3.99% (on the primary loan), but without consolidating the 2 loans we could not rent at equitable mortgage.

So after 5 years paying outrageous interest rates and riding the economic tides as best we could, now USAA says "screw you!" to diligent and resilient customers who have paid over $200'000 in mortgage fees to adjust a 8.34% interest rate and/or consolidating a loan with GMAC.  We are forced to short sell or foreclose under these circumstances since we are 45% underwater.  Then Collections calls me weekly asking me to make a payment....  I can't help but laugh.  I am in the business of keeping my family together and financially sound.  If USAA's pledge is about raping soldiers financially and resulting in breaking families apart.... I am OUT...!  They are so desperate now that ANYONE can open an account at USAA.  Don't forget WHO built your financial institution for the past 90 years >> Government and Military employees.  We have to abandon our dream home now, when we could have saved $1200+ in monthly mortgages ONLY IF USAA had cooperated and negotiated an adjusted interest rate and/or consolidated loans.

Just read the above message-breaks my heart.we're in the same position. i had to do a reverse phone number look-up on this number. for the past week, there have been up to 14 calls a day from this number. they just called three times in the past hour-the last time at 8:45p.m.! wow, didn't realize it waas USAA. My husband is usually prompt with payments, guess i'm going to have to ask him what he is a few days late on. USAA has gone completely to hell--they will reap what they sow...in time, they will collapse in on themselves.

The same thing is happening to us.  My husband was laid off last fall  He has only found temporary work since then.  We have been really struggling for 2-3 months.  We get calls all the time from them.  At home, at work, on my cell phone.  We say the same thing-we don't have the money if we could we would.  It isn't like we just randomly decided to stop paying our bills. We can get absolutely NO help.  We have a credit card and a home equity loan with them.  Because of their constant harassment and absolute refusal to work with us, we are now looking at bankruptcy.  We are trying not to go that route, but with no assistance or understanding what can you do?  We have another credit card we are behind on and they worked with us.  They looked at what we bring in and what we owe and told us-you can't afford to pay us right now, it is more important you pay your mortgage and utilities.  We have not received another call from them harassing us about paying what they know we can't afford.  When we do get some money coming in I will certainly pay them over USAA.  I used to really like them, but after years of loyalty and on time payments, two missed payments now gets me absolutely nothing with them.

Although these answers are somewhat off the beaten path (who calls me at this number?) USAA is a sufficient enough answer. BUT upon reading these I will have to agree somewhat. I've been with USAA for over 37 years, actually as a dependent (1970) back when  they were started by a few officers from different branches of the military. Yes they have changed some, more automated which is why no messages are left due to the nature of automative messages. And yes some aspects of USAA have become less customer friendly, they are still by far better than any other bank I have been a member to, and I have almost tried them all (for locality convenience). As I understand, they have outsourced some of their benefits, e.g. life insurance, vehicle/home insurance, credit cards, home mortages and auto loans) so the customer service is much to be desired. I have called before, pissed off as hell to banking and they were very patient with me (I would have hung up on me) and still treated me with kindness and respect. After all they are human too and have bad days and day in day out have to deal with a*holes like me sometime.  Most importantly, most definately agree to this message I've replied to.

Just got a call from this number. USAA calling me about my late payment on my car. My car was "sold" three weeks ago, did almost all the paperwork and fellow soldier had a loan drawn from USAA. My automatic payment was refunded since my loan now had a zero balance.

The soldier decided he didn't want to buy and we called USAA to reverse the loan. I was waiting for the loan to show back up on my account so I can pay it. Good new though, it finally reversed last night and USAA happily notified me of my latency to pay! Thanks USAA!

I start getting calls from this number whenever I get a new phone number. I've never done business with them and have no idea what data they are using to start calling my number.  I've discovered that many utilities use the ADDRESS as a point of contact, looking for whatever phone number is activated there. Finally used call blocking.

We keep getting these calls also and they do not leave a message.  We also have never had insurance, loans or any other relationship with them, ever.  Our only utility is electric as we live way out in the country with a well and septic system.  If this continues I guess we will also have to block their calls.

So, we had insurance through USAA for a good long while.  At the beginning of last year, they decided to raise our rate.  Only they didn't tell us.  We continued making regular payments through web bill pay at the amount we thought was our monthly due.
While sitting at a traffic light one day, a police officer was in the lane next to me and about two cars back.  Apparently he was bored because he was running random plates through his new on board computer.  As soon as the light turned green, he promptly pulled me over.  He asked if I was insured and I told him yes.  He then asked me to step out of the vehicle as there was no record of insurance for me.  I complied and called USAA to find out that my insurance had been cancelled for non-payment!
My car was towed (can't drive uninsured) and I was left to walk home with a pretty hefty bag of stuff.  I was 30 MILES FROM HOME!!!  When I finally got a chance to call USAA to figure out what happened, They said that I was informed of the rate change and my payment deliquency electronically.  "I received no e-mails!" I told them.  They said, "It's on the website when you log into your account."  I said, "I'm on my account and I see nothing!"  They took me through a few different links and told me to scroll ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE BOTTOM.  Oh, there it is.  When was I supposed to see that?!?  I quickly found insurance elsewhere.  It cost me close to $1000 to get my car back.  I am no longer a satisfied customer.

And they used to be so great!

This is one for the books...Not only do I echo the sentiment expressed in earlier posts about the degradation of USAA "customer service" but their overall "system" (meaning how they are organized and how the various departmental components are linked (OR NOT) on the web, is ATROCIOUS. As to this phone number and auto loan issue: I too got a call this morning from this number (supposedly USAA) inquiring about a delinquent loan payment which was due on January 20. As it turns out it is delinquent but only because USAA froze my checking and savings accounts due to fraudulent ATM activity on that same day. Thus, the normally scheduled automatic withdrawl from my checking account wasn't processed!!! After almost 25 years I have reached the end of my patience with the escalating "fumbles" by USAA and am going to have to find a new home for all of my banking, insurance and loan needs. VERY SAD indeed.
