Calling for another person in reference to student services.

Freaking idiots the lot of them! Calling for someone who doesn't live here and still calls back when you tell them they have the wrong number.  Had to threaten to file complaint with BBB to get them to take my name off list.

I've looked up on other sites about this 800 number and people say that it is a subsidiary of SallieMae. I think this is some sort of scam, or a way to find out if they have the right number. Someone left a message on my voicemail and I unfortunately called back, confirming that they have my number. The message said they were calling about neighbor about important documents they sent to her and she hasn't returned them. So they wanted to know if I have seen her. Is this STUPID or what? I asked them where they got my name and number. She said I was on a list and they are allowed to call friends, family, and neighbors of someone they are trying to get a hold of. She said my neighbor must have put my name on the list as a reference. That is a complete lie because my neighbors, for one, would never do this, and for another, she used my old short first name that none of my neighbors have (an abbreviated name for my longer name). This name appears on reports with the credit reporting agencies and nowhere else. So apparently someone is trying to verify my phone and address. I have no outstanding loans, no debt collections, and almost perfect credit score. The fact that some company uses this bogus reason to get return calls tells me that it is instead a cover up for a way of verifying people's phone numbers and addresses. Why? I haven't figured that one out yet.
All I know for a fact is that the reason for the call was a ruse, to get me to call back, which I unfortunately did. This verified that they have my correct number and address.

Sent an updated letter to Great Lakes and Sallie Mae. And yes I do know how to pay my bills on time. Beside harrassing someone why not tell people about the option of getting rid of their student loans that the president had put into action "google" ...new plans to help people pay off student loans. I just fell behind not forgotten and by the way when you send someone after me make sure they are not getting revenge because when they do my NEGRO ass will get the best of them. LOVE

Received a call from this number but the person would not identify themselves.  They said my son owed $915,443 dollars and would go to jail in 9 days if they didn't receive a payment.  This is a scam.

This really is a real company....not out to scam just out to help.

Its fake! They ask for social don't give it to them. I just got triple alert and filed a federal complaint on these people. Do not give them anything else!! Fake fake fake. Sallie mae has NO CONNECTION with these idiots

They called me also and asked me to verify the last 4 of my social. So THAT part about YOUR post was fake fake fake.
Like others I called them back and unfortunately confirmed my info. My Sallie Mae loan has been deferred and  will be deferred for the next 3 years. I  have letters from SallieMae stating this. The company is bogus and are fishing for info.

Returned the call to 800-562-2525, "lisa" was not available so the gal said "i can help you" asked me for the phone # that was called, gave her my phone and while on hold I googled their # and did not like these postings so I hung up!!!!

No collection agency can threaten to put anyone in jail.. besides the IRS.  No creditor can for that matter, either.  Make sure you listen to everything they say before reporting something to this extreme measure.  Making a threat against an agency for this type of abuse, is illegal.

They keep calling and calling and calling, if I answer they are not there, if I don't they leave automated message for me to call them about an important business matter. I don't have any business matters that I don't know about or that I would be called about.  I believe they are up to NO GOOD!!!

they just called me ( a woman) from number 866-283-5184 and left me a message asking for a referance to someone named joshua and asked me to return their call at 1-800-562-2525 X 155 if this is a wrong number and if so they'd take me off their list or to call if i am some guy (i forget the name) for a referance.
being the nice me i phoned back and a man answered in a forgein language i don't understand and i said "hello" and he started talking in english and asked for my name and i wouldn't give it to him and told him they got the wrong number and he said "oh for joshua okay."

I received the number from one of the employers at Sallie Mae. It is a legitimate company and not a scam. If you've never completely paid off your loan from Sallie Mae then the loan is forgiven and sold to the United Student Aid Forms people. That's how they have your number. They're just trying to collect on your debt that was paid off by them. It is not a SCAM. It's still a debt that you owe, you just owe it to someone else other than Sallie Mae now.

it MUST be.  They keep calling for my husband who has NEVER had a student loan!  They wanted his birthdate, not his social.  Where did they get get his info?

Stephanie wont stop calling my house and leaving voice mails saying she is trying to get a message to our neighbor.  We've called 4 times to tell them that we don't know this person or the person who they think they are calling.  I'm sure this number is a scam and this is the only means of income for these low life people who didn't receive any education themselves.  

Just received a call stating they were from Student Assistance referencing a person I don't know.  After reading these posts, I do NOT plan on calling them back.  The number I was asked to call back was 800-562-2525 ext. 467.  With not knowing the person they inquired about and knowing I have never used any form of student assistance, I decided to check it out first.  Do your homework so you don't get scammed.

They left a message saying to call them back because I was listed as a reference for someone with my same last name, but I didn't recognize the first name~  so I called back and got disconnected but I believe it is a scam of some kind to verify real people with phone numbers.. don't fall for it like I did.

Sherri called my boss. Left a note for me the co- signer.we offer to pay some money, but they don't want that amount. They want the whole check.you know what!you're getting NOTHING Sallie Mae.yes you Sally Mae. So [***] off!

They told me its VERY important that I returned their call.  One chick got on the phone, sounded very nervous.  Immediately asked me for my SS#.  I said, "I'm not giving you that"! Then she told me that it's something with Student help.  I said, I'm not a student! Then she told me to hang on while she gets the girl with the "extention" who called me.  I hung UP!! Stupid!  THey called me at WORK! A government job!!  Dummies!
