3 family members received this call on cell phones.  We all ignored it.  I called Cap One later on their real number to let them know about this.

Recvd call from this-- I ignored it then called it back-- it was regarding my request to open a Capital One savings account earlier.
The woman gave me an appointment with the bank next day-- was very convenient-- not a rip off or phishing scam. She supplied me with my info and didn't try to sell me anything.

I just received a call from this number and I ignored it. I never pick up a number I don't recognize. They left a voice mail and it was a woman from Capital One Bank. She identified herself, then said she was looking for me and asked me to call her back at my earliest convenience. She did not say what it was concerning. I have had accounts with Capital One for years but never got a call like this. I'm not calling it back because a) the number she gave me to call back was an 866 number and b) I am not aware of any problems with my account, as I keep track of them very tightly.

Got two calls two days in a row from this number while on vacation. It's Capital One Bank, not a scam. A representative left me a voice mail asking me to call back, no other details. I called back when I got home from vacation. They said they just wanted to ensure I had received my debit card in the mail, as I had just opened a Rewards checking account. They are not trying to sell anything. It's just to ensure that everything is okay and that my debit card did not fall into the wrong hands.

I told them their lack of detail in the voice mail alarmed me and he was very nice and apologized for worrying me, and they said that they don't say details in the voice mail in case it's the wrong number. It makes sense.

This is a Capital One Customer Service phone number (as far as I know operating 24/7). However this bank is sometimes a pain in the bun and you need to check your account regularly. As nice as the employees may be, it doesn't change the fact that you will always experience some difficulties with their system. Wished it was different...

Sometimes they call to verify that you have applied for a CAPONE credit card through them before they issue it. If you are not hiding from them due to non payment then just pick up the phone and see what they want. You CAN opt out of them calling you from time to time and just have them email you instead.

called cap 1 with account instructions, received this call from a different # about half an hour later saying my information wasn't "high validated" and I needed to provide them with my personal info again.  Caller said from cap 1, announced that the call was being recorded, and asked for my name.

This is NOT CAPITOL ONE'S FRAUD DEPARTMENT. They are actually scamming to get access to your password to access your bank account with Capitol One. If you listen to them the call will sound legitimate until they ask you to "confirm your password".

Do NOT believe this, this is a scam to gain access to your personal information and if you have a Capitol One account, they are trying to get your password to your accounts.

Received a call on cell from Chris at this number, I did not answer in case it was phishing, voicemail used my name and and asked to call my client services rep (I do not have one) re a recent request (I have not made any) and gave a reference number, and this phone number (which is on their website in multiple places and their social media). Capital One when I called back knew nothing about the reference number or any requests. Capital One said to assume any call was phishing and ignore it. Chris called back later on my cell, asked for my info to tell me what the call was about, I said I would not give it to him, he said I should call my rep whose name was Marie Daniels or Tequila (haha) Daniels and gave me a cell number, 646-836-5293. I told him it was odd to be given a cell number and said I would call her. I called, the message said this was Capital One and I got a voice mailbox, I told them if this really was capital one, they should try and seem more legit, and if not, good luck with their scam. The odd thing is the real Capitol One reps (when I called the main number) asked several times for my full SSN, which is an odd security flaw, I am going to close my accounts because of that.

I got a call from this phone number claiming man claiming to be Jason Davis his id# CO98572 to be from Capital One banking and he gave me claim number saying that an attempt on my card was used in China for the amount of $4000 and I needed to get Macy and Target gift cards and I could only get the Macys cards and gave the Macy's card# and CID#'S to him and I could not get the target card. I checked with the Macy's gift card # on the back  of the 6 cards that I purchased nd all of them have a $0 balance except for one which has a $14.63 balance left.  When I got home I told my husband what had happened and together we both called the Capital One Fraud 800-655-2265 and reported it and they said it would take 48 hours for the claim to go through so be very careful and now we have to go to Capital One in the morning and open up a new account.

I recvd a call from 1-800-655-2265 and, like many of you before me, didn't answer the call to my cell as I thought it odd they were calling me. I have four (4) personal credit card accts w/Capital One and they've never called before. The call disconnected after ~10 secs w/o leaving a VoiceMsg. So, I called back, just to see WHY they phd. I was asked, "In order to identify your acct, pls enter your Debit Card# or your full SocSec#" RIGHT! LIKE I'M GONNA ENTER EITHER OF THOSE ITEMS! Curious (and just in case...), I plowed through the extensive robo-choice menu to end up in a queue for Customer Svc, advsd, "... call volume high... your call s/b answered in 2 mins"; "Chris" came on the line instantly. I explained that I'd just recvd a call from this ph# so was wondering WHY? He told me I should speak to Personal Credit Cards and would "connect me". I got nervous and hung up, worried that the mere fact I was "on hold" was still a possible avenue for a very sophisticated phishing scam that might be able to glean my personal financial info anyhow from my cell (I do not have a landline) so I hung up. Then I did what many of you've done: I googled "Who is 1-800-655-2265?" which is how I came here. I've written all of this, incl (I'm sure :) ) inane details, so that others might be forewarned: Nobody should request that you enter your SocSec# OR Debit Card# in this day and age. I am so leery of Scams and Frauds that I will never give ANYONE MY SOCSEC# OVER THE PH, NOT EVEN "ENTER IT" INSTEAD OF SAYING IT ALOUD. I realize CapOne offers Online Banking so a request to enter  your Dbt card# seems reasonable IF I CALLED THEM, however, I won't do that either as I believe ANY reputable company should be able to cross-reference my acct(s) using my ph#; if Scams and Frauds are sophisticated enough to sound, appear, or solicit me via ph, then I believe they can ALSO FIND MY ACCT#(S) USING MY PH# (which I've had for last 35yrs). Lastly, because I'm so paranoid concerning Scams and Fraud, I check my accts online frequently, sometimes daily. Just today I found three (3) unknown-to-me charges on my personal checking acct (not CapOne) for four (4) "automatic renewals of 'PM Magazines' " totaling $82. No other info (like name/mag or ph#/acct#) but the individual chgs were miniscule so didn't flag an alert so my advice, my caution to all who had the patience to read this is this: you can never be TOO CAREFUL these days AND IT IS YOU WHO ARE 99% RESPONSIBLE FOR PROTECTING YOURSELF (AND ANY PERSONAL INFO STORED ONLINE) FROM THIEVES! Of course, the sad reality is if somebody wants to scam/defraud me, steal or impersonate me, and they are savvy enough to know how to, there's not much I can do about that as my bank's (Wells Fargo) Fraud Dept makes a calculated cost (to them) to pursue said claim and while they'll immediately issue a Claim#, that is the end of their efforts. Oh yeah, I'm advised that I "can/should close my checking acct forthwith" which, I don't know about you, is a colossal pain in the *** since I pay all my bills online so have my checking acct tied to each bill but, my bank assuages my fears by crediting me the monies in question because by doing that, they still come out $ahead$... and I am "satisfied", the "problem resolved". LITTLE PEOPLE WITH LITTLE MONEY DON'T COUNT FOR MUCH ANYHOW. Sorry again for the length of this remark.

Never trust the number that appears on your phone.  While this is the number for Capitol One, ANI spoofing allows scammers to send fake caller-ID info.  You'll just have to listen to what they say to determine if they're a scam or not.  If even in the slightest bit of doubt, hang up and call the number on the companies web site.

For me, it was a completely obvious scam attempt, as they are not my bank and wanted account information.

This number called me twice in a minute, did not leave a message. I don't answer calls that I don't know the number so I was expecting a voicemail but nothing came up. I wanted to call back but what if they track me? Very weird..

I also got a call from this number telling me that there was a charge of $900 at Sam's Club and asking if it was mine.  I said no, the call was very loud and static and very hard to understand them.  I told her I couln't understand her much and she got someone else on the phone and it was the same issue.  He then proceeded to tell me that he was going to stop the charge and send me a new card.  I said ok, then he asked to verify my last 4 of my social.  My gut told me now, even though the caller ID said Capital One.  And when you try to call back it sound like a legit Capital One call.   After I told them no, they hung up.   I called the number on my back of my card and reported the call and wanted to confirm if what they said was true.   They didn't show any charge for Sam's Club and they said they would normally would not call.   So here I am reporting this as a fraud/scam call.
