- Deborah StuartReceived fax from this number
- Caller: AT&T
- Business Using AT&TSomeone called our business asked for our main billing address and other information that if they were actually at&t they would have know the answers.
- Caller: AT&T
- BrendaReceived a fax from 800-662-1887 which asked us to identify our number. When we called the 800 number, they said that they wanted us to verify a collect call made from our number(which is a fax line)place in Indiana (we are in Washington. They wanted to bill us for the call. When we wouldn't cooperate with them, they hung up on us. The fax listed AT&T, but when we called them and they had no idea about it. We passed the information on with to AT&T. They were at least helpful and they are not even our phone carrier. Still don't know why we got the fax or what is up with it. Must be another scam.
- KathiRec'd a call and said someone had called from our home number using AT&T. We don't have that service......
- ANONYMOUS| 2 repliesThis is an actual AT&T number, they call you to get billing information if you use att and you're not a customer. It could be someone calling you collect over at&t from a payphone or their number has at&t or someone in your home could use an access code to access at&t's line, or your phone carrier could be having trouble and putting your call through on the next available line. THIS IS A LEGITMATE CALL
- MarkThey called me, too. It seems very scammy to me. I use VOIP. They were inquiring about a directory assistance call mead more than 21 days ago! I told them nothing.
- Caller: ATT
- WilliamWe received a fax from this number. It said "This number has accessed the ATT network. This is an effort to contact you to obtain the name and address that this telephone number is listed as. Please contact us with the following information at your earliest convenience. This line will be denied access to ATT's network if no information is give or verified." Of course, this sounded fake. When I called the number, it said dial one to be connected to an agent, or you will be disconnected. I did not trust dialing "1" and it disconnected me. I still don't have an answer, but this does not sound legitimate.
- SusanI don't agree with "Anonymous" that it is A LEGITIMATE CALL! If it were really AT&T I'm pretty sure they can do a search of your number and find out who you are. However, they should not be able to bill you for 'somehow' using their lines when it was not a choice of yours to do so!!! This has scam written all over it...
- VliAT&T associates threaten to withold AT&T service if you refuse to provide a complete stranger with your address?!? That is what happened to me just a minute ago! I am not about to provide my address to some strange woman who calls and demands it for a supposed call made to my phone nearly two months ago. Why wouldn't it be on my bill with all the others?
- Caller: AT&T
- EricPerson claiming to be a service for ATT left us a message. I went to ATT website and could not find that number on their site using their site search tool. Most ATT services are offered through the number 1-800-222-0300. Again I could not find a legitimate connection between the number that called us and ATT so I am not going to call them back.
- Caller: CLAIMED TO BE ATT ** NOT VERIFIED
- StephenMy company received a call asking us to call 1-800-662-1887 x.307, as described above. After reading the posts here and a few more at similar websites, I asked our receptionist if we had recently accepted any collect calls. She told me we had and the circumstances of the call. I decided to call, steeling myself to not divulge any information in case this was a scam. Please note that we have not been with AT&T for 5 or 6 years. I spoke with a woman (no accent) named Michelle. When I gave her the number that had been called, she quickly gave me the details for a collect call we accepted, including date, time, length of call, and call origination point (City, State). This information was confirmed by our receptionist as being the above mentioned collect call. For the billing information, when I told her our company name, she said she saw an old account with that name. We confirmed the information she already had, and that was it. So, I believe this to be valid and not a scam. I told Michelle that AT&T really needed to do something to make this less "scammy" in appearance. Maybe a link off of their main website?
- Caller: AT&T
- BMP2CPMThis is a scam. It is not AT&T. Caller did not know my name or account. When I told caller he wasn't AT&T, he ended the call. Any posts you see here claiming it's AT&T were posted by the scammer(s).

- Beacon of Truth800-662-1887 belongs/belonged to WAN Communications Corp. (Wan.com / WANCom: http://www.wancom.net/contact.htm).
Based on the website, they were an AT&T "agent", which means they sold solutions which utilized AT&T network services (DSL, broadband, LD, IP phone, etc). Based on the quality of the website, whether they are in business now is up for debate (i.e. someone might have bought the number or the company name for just this type of scam).
They are NOT AT&T. This is, at best, a phishing operation.

- ScooterWhen a person calls a long distance # and prefaces that number with 1800CALLATT, or often times when placing an operator assisted call, or when a person has not chosen a long distance carrier, or they have-but their carrier is experiencing network outage, AT&T having an "open network" allows these calls to route over their network. When a call routes over their network, AT&T as would any phone company, or person in business to make money, expects the caller to pay for their call. LD Calls are not free. Since phone companies will no longer bill for one another, AT&T must contact the person who accepted charges for the call-in the case of collect calls, or the person at the number where the call originated, and ask for name and address to send a statement for the calls that came over their network.
After a call or several calls have gone through, the system will block further calls from routing over AT&Ts network until billing information can be obtained. If the person gives the info to bill for that call, the block is removed, and in the future-should the need arise-further calls can be allowed over the AT&T network. Should the person choose not to give their name & address to bill for the call, the block over AT&Ts network remains. The block ONLY blocks calls over AT&Ts network. It DOES NOT block you from being able to make ld calls on your own chosen LD network. AT&T has every right to block calls routing over their network that people who are not their customers have made, and have refused to pay for. These types of calls are called "unguidable usage", meaning the system does not have a way of billing for the call unless the person accepting the call or placing the call decides to pay for it. Otherwise systems will place block preventing further free usage of a network. Its always wise to be alert for scams. They are certainly out there. But just because someone posts something online saying it is a scam, does not make something a scam. 8006621887 is a legitimate number of the Account Verification Call Center which takes these calls. If you doubt this, contact AT&T Customer Care at 8002882020 & ask to escallate your concerns with Executive Complaints Dept. and find out for yourself. AT&T is a very very large compay, and the low level reps can certainly pass on misleading information. Ask for a manager.- Caller: AT&T
- LizJust got a call from this number. Caller said she was Tiffany from AT&T and she was calling because someone called Jamaica from our number two weeks ago. We were both here that evening and neither of us called Jamaica, obviously. We do not have AT&T, and also have a block on long-distance calls from our phone. Tiffany wanted my name and address and when I refused to provide it, said she would block future calls from our number.
I can't see how this could be legitimate, as I know nobody called Jamaica from our number. - ANONYMOUS ALSO replies to ANONYMOUSYEah, its not fishy at all that you're the only one here that said this is legit but won't give your name. Work for the scammers much? lolol
- Discerning 1Just had call from 800-662-1887. Male caller announces he is "Calling from AT&T and needs your help. Someone from your number made a call to Provo (UT) recently and we need to get your name and address so we can send you the bill for it."
BROTHER. Please do NOT be fooled!
Phone companies do NOT operate this way.
If anyone calls from your number, the company you are with will certainly bill you. After all, you HAVE to be WITH a phone company to have phone service in the first place.
Terrible scammer! Don't fall victim. JUST HANG UP without responding and BLOCK this #. Warn your friends / family so they don't get tangled in their mean web, either.- Caller: stated "AT&T"
