It's Statistics Canada.

Leaves a message atleast, saying they are Statistics Canada. They do leave a call back number, HOWEVER, they are calling my house AFTER 9pm. NOT acceptable. I didn't return the call.

This number called me on my cell phone.  I don't give this out. My cell is pay as you go and only used by my family members for emergency or very specific people.  HOW DID THEY GET THIS NUMBER.  The person told me it must be on the stats form remitted to them.  NO WAY....Even had wrong information. I would not answer any questions.  IS THIS A SCAM..they said they were stats canada.

This is a legitimate number of a federal government department. Just complete their survey. Most of the calls they make are required by law, as is your participation in their surveys.

Parliament passed something that its mandatory to answer questions
Ask them what happens if you decide not to answer their questions - how long will you go jail for ?

As mentioned, it is Stats Canada.  They simply wanted to know how my career is going since the time I graduated.  They don't share who you are with anyone; they want to know if they can find correlations between the different answers they get using a large sample size, things like "75% of people who are 'x' currently do 'y'," and that kind of stuff.

Creating these statistics is for the betterment of all Canadians.  The more people answer these questions, the more accurate the numbers will be.

My call lasted 25 minutes.

Ya they call any time of the day and week it is annoying as hell called them back told them in so many words to stop calling lets see if they do cause I got a few more choice words to tell them :-)

Its Stats Canada.  I was complying with survey questions when they stated that they were randomly selecting from the household names I had given and when it wasn't me, the call turned bad.  I said that the other house hold member is not willing to take surveys, worked full time and was a full time student and that they were not available during legal calling hours.  This caller than stated that they do not have to comply with call laws and can call from 8am to 11pm because they are the federal government.  They are under protection and can not be put on the "do not call list".  She then said that they will be calling until they speak with the other household member.... which will be never.  

They didn't tell me I HAD to call them back, so I"m not.

female caller claimed was sent out some time ago.  I probably recycled this, I told her, for I cannot find and do not remember receiving  such a document, or I would have dealt with it.  This may be  from a commercial outfit, scamming for market information, I think.

Well I am glad I am not the only one.  More should be complaining.  This started for me in Feb.  They said was STATS Canada.  The call went bad when they started asking for very detailed information.  Soc Ins no.
Wages etc.  who all lives there legal names, ages where I work etc.  They said they would call for the next 5 months.  They were very persistant and said it was against the law not to answer.  Well I thought that was the end of that when I gave them a rough time.  NOT. They have been calling my home day and night 5 to 6 times a day from different numbers, blocking calls and other numbers which I will list. I asked for a paper copy of the survey to fill in and take back to STAT office of mail to them directly. They refused and that's not how its done.  Its a work survey.  What part of I work don't they understand? Today was the last straw.  After another 5 calls today I answered the phone. I told them that I traced their calls, asked for the Minister of STATS Can. They did not know who that was and could not give me that information.  Said it was against the law not to answer and that they would keep on calling.  Ungodly hours I might add. I requested for them to not call me again.  They said they could not do this and would keep calling until they got their answers.  I can't believe the Government is wasting our tax payer $ on this.  Calling and calling for 5 months in a row?  Give me a break. We are in the age of identify theft, number spoofing etc.  They told me that they have not had problems with other folks answering all their questions.  I find that hard to believe.  I have traced the calls and keeping a log.  I have had enough and will report and make calls to whom ever will listen until someone blows the lid off this.  I think its fraud.  Perhaps the media needs to know.  Someone needs to stop this.  I just find this so hard to believe that this is our Government.  If its real I still believe this is harassment.  I thought surveys were optional?  Apparantly they are calling 60,000 Canadians at random.  Here are the numbers: 204-984-7364, 204-983-8439, 204-982-6930, 204-982-8235 204-989-8235, lots of blocked calls and this 1800 number.
