Called my office phone number claiming to be an American Express representative. Wanted me to call back with my credit card number.

I called the American Express directly to check what phone numbers they have in their records. They do not have my office phone number.

It's a scam.

i also got this same voicemail message at work:

"Called my office phone number claiming to be an American Express representative. Wanted me to call back with my credit card number."

i figured it was a scam since they didn't use my name.

I have received several messages to call American Express at this number and others.  Funny, because I don't have an AE account.  I called the number and they first have an automated system to take your account number.  Ultimately you can talk to a person, but they won't look up your account without your SS#.  Hmmmmm......

I Googled the number and got this. Glad I checked

just got this same call. figured something was wrong when they didnt specify who they were calling for. thank god for websites like this.

SCAM

Got the same call, telling me they needed me to contact them by the end of the day, but called after 4pm.... so, I knew it was not legit.  Amex is too big to NEED someone to contact them by the end of the day!  

The number they left on my cell phone voicemail was: 800-678-0738  and the caller ID number was: 954-308-5595

Received the same message.  Called AM EX..they never called me.  Big scam

Was also called today. Suspected a scam directly and have informed AMEX customer services.

Scratch the previous comment. Despite it sounding like a scam, it really IS AMEX!

Jo you call and make a payment  if you beleive it is not a scam( if you call the number they will answer american express)only call the amex numer on  the card (i have been scammed before like this be careful)  they are so good  at calling and sounding real.  All they want is your info and your money.

They also call from a NY cell phone number and say all the same stuff  that number is 1-718-564-3261  they are a scam DO NOT FALL for it.  They called me twice today and the second time we answereed and told them to stop call por I will report them tp the police yet she still was yelling Maam as I hung up.

I called amex they said it is one of there reps but it probably a solitation nothing important

This # is a scam, I called amx DIRCTLY BY USING their CUSTOMER credit card tel # to see if I had any problems, no problems. PLEASE DONT CALL THIS #.

A call came through my cell phone showing the # 718 564-3261 which I did not recognize so I figured it was probably a salesman trying to sell me something. A few seconds later there was a message stating: This is American Express calling about a very important business matter. Your attention to this matter is urgently needed by the end of the day. Please call us at 1 800 678-0738 & please have your American Express account # available when you call. We can be reached 24 hours a day. Thank you. I knew right away it was a scam since American Express would not of left a message like that. The thing that bothers me is, I do have an American Express card which was purchased through Costco and the only phone I have is a cell. How did they get my phone #?  Did someone at Costco get a hold of my information?

Just got a call from this number and a message was left stating for me to call back about an urgent message from American Express.

call came from 718-564-3261 and said call american express by the end of the day for an important business matter at the 900-678-0738. Checked my account it was fine. This is a scam.

I received one today 12/23/08.  I called the FBI and was told to call the FTC, which I will do tomorrow.  Don't give out any info to anyone that calls you.

I received a call from that number today at work and at home.  Both numbers called in from 718-564-3261 and said to call this 800 number.  The guy knew the amount of the payment that I had made yesterday.  He said that he needed me to update my work information????  I told him that I wouldn't do that over the phone and I called AE through the number on their website.

This is definitely a scam and the AE guy that I spoke to said that they're getting a lot of calls like this and they think that someone who works for them, or one of their direct affiliates, is selling information.

Had a message on my home VMX to call this number with my Amex Acct#.

Didn't call, found this site first.

Got a message on my work and cell number to call this number with my account info.
