- Sven| 2 repliesReceived numerous messages from this supposed US Census Bureau told to call 1-800-681-3012 and told to refer to case ID #: T1-----. I feel funny calling them not knowing that this is really the US Census Bureau.

- debbie| 1 replyHave received 2-4 calls per day for the last 3 weeks from a few different #'s around the country, leaving me messages to call this 800# regarding a Census Bureau case #. All messages were left by real people, not automated. I thought they were legit calls until today when I was playing back my voice mails and paid closer attention to the messages being left so I could get the hours of the call center so I could possibly find the time to call them. Three callers left three different times as to this "census bureau's" hours. One said they were open til 9pm, one said 10pm and one said 12 a.m. Sounded fishy to me. I won't be calling them now, especially since I looked up the actual phone #'s from where they called and found several comments about the questionability of all the calls.
- Caller: Census Bureau
- kimthey call all the time with the same U. S. Census and case # T______________________. I asked for them to stop calling they said they couldn't do that. I asked for a supervisor, was left on hold 22 minutes until I hung up. They call everyday at night 9 or 10 pm all day Sundays. WTF? I just reported to FTC
- Caller: US Census Bureau

Sorry for the delay in responding to your inquiry.
The Census Bureau conducts hundreds of surveys and survey related operations. Demographic surveys such as: The American Community Survey, American Housing Survey, Current Population Survey, Residential Finance Survey, Survey of Income and Program Participation, Telephone Point of Purchase, etc. Economic sectors covered include Construction, Governments, Foreign Trade, Manufacturing, Mining, Retail, Services, Wholesale, and Multi-Sector.
We have three contact centers (Hagerstown MD, Jeffersonville IN, and Tucson AZ) and 6 Regional Offices (Atlanta, Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles, New York, and Philadelphia) that support more than 9000 Field Representatives. The contact center calling hours are 9:00 AM - 9:00 PM Monday - Fridays, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Saturdays, 11:00 AM - 9:00 PM Sundays. Unless the survey sponsor has requested otherwise. We usually make only 2 or 3 calls a day until we reach someone.
You were called by one of our Tucson Contact Center interviewers in reference to an important survey. For confidentiality purposes, our interviewers are instructed to speak with an adult in the household or specific name. The interviewers must verify that the telephone number, address, or name (depending on the type of survey sample) they have reached is the correct telephone number, housing unit, or the sample person for the case. Only after the appropriate information has been verified, are the interviewers allowed to provide the name of the survey or operation, the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) number that authorizes the Census Bureau to collect the data, whether or not the survey or operation is mandatory or voluntary, and how long the average interview takes.
The information that the Census Bureau collects helps to determine the Consumer Price Index (CPI), the unemployment rate, and how more than $400 billion dollars of federal funding each year is spent on infrastructure and services. Your answers help federal, state and local leaders make decisions about schools, job training centers, hospitals, roads, and other transportation projects, emergency services, housing values, the economy, etc. The data will only be used to produce statistics. Title 13 of the United States Code requires the Census Bureau to keep all information about you, and all other respondents, strictly confidential. Any Census Bureau employee who violates these provisions is subject to a fine up to $250,000, a prison sentence up to five years, or both. We are sworn to uphold the confidentiality of the data for life.
Please call the toll free number 800-681-3012 and refer to Case ID 13275 to complete the interview.
We truly appreciate your participation!

- MarciaI was called and tried to understand what I was being asked. I asked where they were calling from. They said US Census Bureau in Arizona. I asked to speak to someone that I could understand, was transferred to someone with the same accent. I felt like I was being scammed so I will not answer any questions. Send me a survey if you cannot hire someone that speaks clear English. I am not talking trash about anyone...I love everyone but I need to understand what is being asked of me.

- AnnoyedI have gotten numerous calls from them. I requested they stop calling and told them I would not be answering questions over the phone. I had to change my phone to not accept their calls. I still get anywhere from 2 to 8 voicemails a day to call about my case number. Totally annoying.
