- MsMo| 1 replyGot the auto call for my son's wells account at our home #--he is in college in another city. He has his cell # listed with wells so they can call him directly, not the home number. Checked account online all looks good but will verify with wells by calling them directly.
- Caller: "Wells Fargo"
- 14khuny| 1 replyI had a answering machine message from this number today. After checking my accounts I then called the number on the back of my card and verified with Wells Fargo that I didn't have any unauthorized charges. She said the first thing they would ask for if I called the number back would more then likely be the last four digits of my card and the security code on the back. I did call the number back, a automated voice read off some charges I didn't make and when a supposed rep came on the line he ask for the security code on the back of my card. I will be cancelling my card today and have a new one reissued with a different number.
- Caller: Wells Fargo
- kltravIt is a fraud call. Check with Wells Fargo and everything okay with account.
- LOPVerified w/ Wells Fargo this is a fraudulent number. Do not call or give any information regarding your account.
- EllieKcall claimed to be Fraud Unit of Wells Fargo verifying unusual activity on my Visa card - bank says no unusual activity and the number is not theirs
- Caller: Claimed to be Wells Fargo
- arizona| 5 repliesMessage left on my home phone with automated voice stating it was from the "Fraud Prevention Dept at Wells Fargo Back" with a message for (my name) wanting to verify recent activity, and for me to call back at the same 800# as appeared on caller id; "Thank you for choosing Wells Fargo, goodbye".
I figured it was a scam but I called my local branch anyway, and they suggested I call the 800 # on the back of my debit card.
Surprisingly, when I called, Wells Fargo actually told me they had put a hold (maybe a different word?) on my card, that a charge was attempted this morning for $291.40 to merchant "Viking Cruise" something-or-other. She said the charge was blocked, and they turned off activity (my words, not hers) on my card. I never exactly understood just what the red flag was for Wells Fargo?
She then walked through my recent debit card/checking acct. activity with me. It all was correct, (as I was looking at my account activity on line when I called her--so she read off everything that I was looking at.) Yesterday I bought gas at a station in Sedona AZ, earlier that morning I'd made one online purchase, with a company I've used before. In any case, a little freaky, the lady said they'd be sending me a new card with a new number...I don't understand how this happened, and why they caught it, and all, but, hopefully that's the end of it...Actually was suprised that it was legit...Sigh...- Caller: Fraud Prevention Dept. at Wells Fargo
- arizona, again| 1 replyI'm just confused why others on this site say they verified with WF and it's a "fraudulent number"? Did you verify with your local bank, or with the for-sure Wells Fargo #?
My local branch would only have seen my account activity, as I did, on my screen when I logged in, so they would likely have said there was no unusual activity also????
Only when I called the 800-869-3557 (1-800-TO-WELLS) number from the back of my debit card, (at my local bank's suggestions) did I find out this other stuff. I imagine my card would not have worked later, so, I don't understand the other posters' info? Any clarification from anyone? Thanks!- Caller: Wells Fargo Fraud Prevention Dept.
- WF customeryour local bank branch and looking at your accounts online won't show a charge that was attempted but blocked by WF-- call the number on back of your card to follow up and be sure...WF fraud dept. verified, when I called, that this is, indeed, one of their "Fraud Department" phone numbers...they will see charges that were attempted and blocked, and that your card is "on hold" until they hear from you that the charge was legit or not. I imagine those who initially called it a scam-type number found that their card wouldn't work later, and followed up eventually...good luck all!

- AP| 3 repliesThanks for the feedback, guys. I got the same call, and based on your messages, I called the Wells Fargo number on the back of my card. I verfied that the 800-704-0855 number is one of their legitimate numbers for their fraud department, but they transferred me straight from the 800-TO-WELLS number. The transaction they were referencing did not show up on my online banking because they had caught it. It was a transaction from California (and I live in Florida). It was a fraudulent charge. Wells Fargo cancelled my card and is sending me a new one.
Number is legit, but you can still use the number on your card to get routed appropriately and feel safe.- Caller: Wells Fargo Fraud Detection
- Dawn replies to AP| 1 replySomeone tried to get my info saying they were from Chase and to call this number. This number does not mention the call is minitored and does not belong to Wells Fargo or Chase.
Do not give out your info to anyine at this number. - WF customer replies to DawnIf the message to call this number was from a "live person", I'd be wary...When I made the direct call to Wells Fargo (to the number on back of my debit card), they confirmed that this other number was indeed from their "Fraud Prevention Department", and that it is a computerized message, the first way of letting someone know that a questionable purchase was attempted. It should not be from some live person, "trying to get your info"...gulp!
- briani got a call from automated system and i thought it was fraudulent. I called wells fargo before calling the number back because i checked online and it appeared i had fraudulent activity so they put a stop on the debit card transaction and gave me a refernce number. After that was resolved i called the number on the automated message (that said they are from wells fargo and they had my real name) and it turned out to be legit. All they asked was my zip code and phone number then they confirmed existing transactions so i didn't feel unsafe saying yes or no. then i asked them to confirm on their end what my reference number was that i got on the call to wells fargo and they provided it. long story short it was a real call from wells fargo

- Clint A| 2 repliesThis is a scam!!!! Wells Fargo is not apart of this. Scam artist, looking to rip off folks of their hard earned money. My account was debited multiple times even though I didn't answer any of the questions asked about my account!!!

- Grizzly SmithThe answer to whether this number is Wells Fargo is "well, yes and no." This may well be one of the numbers that Wells Fargo uses for outbound calls. However, it is trivial to set your outbound Caller ID to any number you like. So what appears to be a call from this number could be from anyone at all, And your safest bet is to call the Wells Fargo number on the back of your card to confirm the status of your account.
- Caller: Wells Fargo (maybe - automated)
- CindyI got a call this morning from 800-704-0855 regarding transactions on my account. I did not press 1. I waited and the recording told me to call 800-704-0855. I used to have an account with Wells Fargo, but I closed it months ago. This is a scam!
