Wells Fargo fraud department

The voice message said to call Wells Fargo at 888-293-7475 with my card number available (They listed the last four digits of my card).  My caller ID showed as 800-723-5533.

This 800 number IS NOT listed on their contact page.

Someone else on this site reported the 888 number above as non-existent for Wells Fargo.

I work in the Fraud Dept for Wells Fargo, and can tell you that the above numbers are, indeed, legitimate - HOWEVER - you may always call the number on the back of your card (the main customer service line) if you have any misgivings, and simply ask to speak to the Fraud Prevention Dept. (you may also find the same number on the website www.wellsfargo.com).  Depending on the type of card, priority, etc., we will leave a different number than what the Caller ID shows.  The Caller ID shows our main "trunk" line.  Granted, you will probably not find that in the online directory.

I got a phone call from 8007235533 asking me for some information. I refused to give and asked for a number to call back. She gave 800-556-0605.  I checked this number, it is Wells Fargo's Fraud department. I called and the lady told me - "the call was a fraud. 1. Wells Fargo never asks for private info over the phone. They obtain it in person. 2. Wells Fargo never calls a customer fpr such issues as late as 10 pm".

I know there are gadgets that can modify the caller ID to make a different (a legit) number appear.  BE CAREFUL!

"Hello this is Wells Fargo Bank Fraud Department... credit card number (not mine)... 1-800-723-5533..."

This is the Wells Fargo Fraud Prevention number, as the commenter above mentioned.  I received a call from them this morning and I called the number on my card to be on the safe side (always watching out for phishing scams) and when I got through to a representative there WAS activity that had gotten flagged as suspicious (legit activity, but it set off some flag or another in the system).

Always pays to be safe, but you don't have to worry if you get calls from this number again.

I also got a call from this number, and instead called back Wells Fargo customer service on the back of my credit card.  It is a legit number, and my card did have fraudulent activity on it.

This is a safe number; it really is Wells Fargo Fraud department.

I got a call from this number, too.  They are legit.

I'm getting calls from 773-913-2569 and it says to call Wells Fargo because someone is using this # and it's fraud.  We don't even have an account w/Wells Fargo

This is NOT a WF number, it is a scam, do not give them any information. I just called WF and they do not use any of these numbers, nor do they ask the same "verification" questions this automated message asks. If they call, hang up and dial the number on the back of your card, this way you know your money is safe, and they can report the number and notify their customers.

Some one or maybe a machine call to my cell phone asking for one of my relatives, stating was from Wells Fargo Bank and my relative needed to call back to the Fraud Prevention department and give me this number to call.
I checked WF bank 800 #'s but not one was as the number I am reporting. So I suspected and check it online, then i found that other people had got the same fishing call form this number.

This is WELLS FARGO, they caught a scam in progress. $1400 in charges pending, they called me and stopped the charges. Thank You Wells Fargo Fraud Department!

My husband received a call at this number. He did not give out any info but they knew the last 4 digits of the card number. He contacted Wells Fargo and they said it was not one of their numbers. The next day, my husband's card failed. When we contacted Wells Fargo they had already had declined several large fraudulent transactions. Keep an eye on your account if anyone calls and has any info on your account.

Got a call from 8007235533 saying wellsfargo card service, when the guy asked if I Jim Owens.  I said you got a wrong number and hung up. Sounds like a scam.

Received a call from them on my cell and did my usual "pickup/hangup" routine. I then checked number online. Assumed that this was bogus as I don't give my cell number out. Since I do have accounts with WF, I called their main number and got to the fraud department that way. They checked their records and said that no one had tried to contact me that day and asked me to email the fraud department with the number. May have been a WF number at one time (may still be one for all I know), but in my case it was obviously someone spoofing and likely phishing for info.

This is a fraudulent number 1-800-723-5533. They claim the come is WellFargo Fraud Department. No bank will ever call their customers and ask for the credit card number, experiation date, security code along with your full date of birth (DOB was a red flag). I asked to speak to a manager and the customer service rep. refused. I hung up and called Wells Fargo directly and asked to speak to the Fraud Department, after verifying myself...they confirmed no on from Well Fargo has contacted me about my credit card. THIS NUMBER IS A FRAUD!

I can attest to the fact that this number is a scam. It is not Wells Fargo Fraud Department. Your credit card company will never ask you for the security numbers on the back of your card like these scammers do. BE CAREFUL!!! I went to my bank and they acknowledge this.

1-800-723-5533 is the Wells Fargo Fraud Detection line.  Someone just tried to charge over $1,300.00 to my card from France, while I'm here in California.  Thanks Wells Fargo!!
