- vmfCalled at 8 this morning and left no message. Caller ID said that it was from Fremont City. It turns out it is PG&E. I am posting anyway so that "Fremont City"doesn't make people think it is a spam call.

Landline phones will continue to work cuz they copper pair has its own power. (high tech phones still need their own power)
voip will continue to function IFF you have a "sine wave" UPS (uninteruptable power supply) for your ISP modem (or ONT), network gear, and PBX or ATA. ($99 cyberhome)
If you want to block calls the "best" way you'll be using voip $1/mo/number + less than a penny a minute billed in 6 second intervals :: http://anveo.com or vitelity
_MUST_
have a voip provider that offers: CNAM FILTERING -- block calls based on what is- or is not in the NAME part of callerID
voip providers without CNAM filters are a WASTE of money and a bit of a joke.- Caller: PG&E (electric company)

I usually use http://anevo.com to BLOCK ALL TOLLFREE calls

AND dump into voicemail ALL CALLS WITHOUT non-city CNAM (callerID name)
For easy desk calling I use
Cisco SPA525G2
http://amazon.com/Cisco-SPA525G2-5-Line-IP-Phone/dp/B003UMCMU6
used voip desk phones are more affordable for me and my wife
or keep your [crappy] landline phone with an ATA (old timey phone to voip) like

or

- j| 1 replyI NEVER answer my phone and always let my machine pick up messages. I've made a log of every call I get that keeps calling and never leaves message or talks etc. I have called and written/sent in my log of phone numbers and times called to the
FCC and surprisingly they have responded well with advise both written or during conversation. You can take these spammers to court like one man did about 15 years ago to Wells Fargo when he got fed up with the time wasting phone calls coming at all hours of day or night. It made the 9o/clock news and in the press for the $5000 per phone call awarded to the
complaining party. I'm not sure if it was AT&T as it was about 15 years ago and don't know who was the big phone company was at that time; Do some research and find out. When I called the FCC last month they told me I could go to small claims court and possibly sue for $1500 per call submitted and proved, I never delete the numbers until I have made a visual record of the callers information showing on the phone. What have you got to lose?..............- Caller: Too many to list here.
- TheOtherJim replies to dellThe URLs in Dell's post are not valid. WhoCallsMe uses a filter on these posts. If you want information about Anveo, just type "anveo" and append the usual dot com to the end.
- TheOtherJimI suspect that whoever is calling is merely spoofing the Caller ID. I've been letting that call go, but we picked it up today. It appears to be someone selling solar panels. If it were really PG&E, they would have identified themselves.
Update: It's a known scam. PG&E has more information on their website. I can't post the URL, because WhoCallsMe has some kind of filter. If you go to PG&E's website (pge dot com) and click on the "contact us" link at the bottom of the page, you'll see their notice.- Caller: Spoofed Caller ID

- MarinThey called me today for the 5th time in 5 days. Here is something from the Berkeley CA police department in 2013:
http://berkeley.patch.com/groups/police-and-f ... are-of-pge-scam
Berkeley police issued a warning this morning, Friday, about a scam in which a caller pretending to represent PG&E tells people that they are behind on payments and must electronically wire $500 to keep their electricity from being shut off.
The department has received a number of calls in the past week about such calls in North Berkeley, police said. The man says the funds must electronically transferred and provides the telephone number (559) 800-7403 to call to make the wire transfer, according to police.
"This is a scam!" the police department said. "If you do receive a telephone call from a person stating they are PG&E, you can always call into PG&E yourself to confirm. PG&E’s customer service telephone number is (800) 743-5000."
PG&E never asks for immediate payment with a cash card over the phone or in person, police said.
The police department alert also relayed the following tips from PG&E:
PG&E’s Credit Department will not ask for personal information or a credit card number over the phone. Anyone who has received such a phone call and provided credit card or checking account information should report it immediately to the credit card company or bank and law enforcement.
Customers with concerns about the legitimacy of a call about a past due bill, service request or request for personal information are encouraged to call PG&E at 1-800-743-5000.
Customers should always ask to see identification before allowing anyone claiming to be a PG&E representative inside their home. PG&E employees always carry their identification and are willing to show it to you.
If a person claiming to be a PG&E employee has identification and you still feel uncomfortable, call PG&E’s customer service line at 1-800-743-5000 to verify an appointment and/or PG&E’s presence in the community. If you feel threatened in any way, notify local law enforcement immediately.
Customers who have an appointment with PG&E will receive an automated call back within 48 hours prior to a scheduled visit, or a personal call from a PG&E gas service representative prior to a scheduled visit.
Anyone who has been victimized by the scam and lost money can report the fraud by calling Berkeley police at (510) 981-5900.- Caller: 800 Service SCAM

- LMpre-recorded call from PG&E. Notification about a big maintenance construction on the main gas line in the neighborhood. left the local project representative's number if we need more information. warning us of possible gas smell, hissing sounds, etc. and to notify any gas smell to PG&E so they can figure out if it's from the construction site or somewhere else.

- andicu2Yes, it's PG&E. One thing I can add is do *not* ignore those 48-HOUR warnings. I am bankrupt and have less than $300/mo. coming in. And *still* PG&E turned off my power and slapped me with a $100.00 RECONNECTION FEE. You could be lying in the street bleeding to death and PG&E cares _sweet'fa_ about you. Good luck everyone. This is my first post.

- Sunly replies to jI believe it is PG&E, otherwise until today 2/21/2016 I still get this same number called
And still have this 800 number on my caller ID. If not PG&E, who else?
They should get this Number scammer pin down already. Why they deny it? - AxIf you go to PG&E's website, there is a scammer who puts the PG&E customer service number (800-743-5000) on the caller ID, but they are not PG&E. If they call claiming to be PG&E and they seem fishy or are asking for your account information, take down their name and phone number. Call the real PG&E back. If it is a legit call, they will have records and you can get things settled then. But PG&E does not call asking for information for your account nor do they solicit for personal information. Do not give any personal or account information to anyone calling you.
