Gave her name (couldn't quite understand the name she gave).Asked for "Reginald" as first name (no such person named "Reginald" lives here)and left 800-824-6191 to return call. Did not identify company calling or why (but if is a debt collector, they are not allowed to say why they are calling).

I've been getting calls from an unavailable # on my cell every other day for almost a year. I can repeat the automated message by heart. 'This is a call for (and they say a name I can't understand). If you are not (insert name), please  hang up, or disconnect now. Federal law requires that we inform you of a debt, etc" So I hang up because its obviously not my name. I always thought it was funny that they tell me to hang up if it is not the person they are looking for, how could they possibly know they have the wrong number? The last straw was when they called me at 6 in the morning...it's completely disrupting my life. This time, they told me to call '1800-824-6191' or hold for a representative. I was curious and stayed on hold for a few moments figuring I could get my number removed by a 'representative'. Every few second it assured me that it was too important of a call to hang up, but I quickly did. How the hell do I get this to stop?

No call... They actually sent a letter with my full social security number, address, and other personal information to my work address.  It said "In order to evaluate the above individual's credit standingt, we must ask that you complete this verification request as soon as possible.  This will avoid any unpleasant delays".

They want employment dates, birth date, social verification, my salary, and several other items... all being very personal information.

Who the [***] are these people?

I have gotten 5 calls in 3 days from this number.  They are asking for me by my maiden name, and I have been married for 7 years now.  If they are just now getting around to calling me about a 7 year old debt, I figure they can wait another 7 years to get paid for it, since it wasn't that important 7 years ago.

These people have been contacting my mother for months now telling her that they are from a law firm that is considering filing a lawsuit against me for a bill from EIGHT YEARS AGO, and was discharged in a bankruptcy filed by my Ex husband!!!  When I called them, they said that they had the right to collect this debt from me, even if he filed the bankruptcy so I did some checking and they are mistaken.  I called back and explained to them that since my ex and I were married at the time of bankruptcy and the debt was a joint account and they did not contest the bankruptcy or attend the creditors hearing, or place a lein on any of our subsequent income tax returns, or garnish our wages, (even though we have both been at the same jobs for nearly fifteen years each and they could have very easily found us!!!

I then told them that since they liked to quote laws and statutes that they should look up the law that says that IT IS ILLEGAL FOR A BUSINESS WHO IS A COLLECTION AGENCY AND NOT LEGAL COUNCIL FOR THE CREDITOR TO REPRESENT THEMSELVES AS A LAW FIRM AND THREATEN LEGAL ACTION WHEN THEY HAVE NO RIGHT TO FILE SUIT!!!

Then, they had the audacity to offer me a lower "settlement" offer to get it paid off. I told them to jump off a bridge in the desert!  I told them that They were not getting one penny from me and that if they contacted my family one more time that I was going to join the class action suit already filed against them, or possibly start one of my own.

The funniest part of all is that after all this, they had the nerve to ask me for my home phone number!!!  (I blocked the call from caller ID!  hehe)  I hung up on them.  They called my mom back and she just got tired of dealing with them and said that she didn't know anyone by that name, and that they just got this number a couple of weeks ago!!!  They haven't called since.  I have sent them a certified letter demanding that they prove the validity of this debt, and their ownership of it.  That was the same day my mom got the last call and we haven't heard from them since.

I have received numerous calls for a debt that I know I paid off over 7 years ago, however, I am unable to find proof I paid it. I started making payments to them so my credit would not be ruined. I looked up their company on the internet and found all of this literature stating they are frauds !! I have already made payments to them - I did not want my credit ruined. Do I continue to pay or do I try and get my money back. ?

So, they called here, looking for my stepson who hasn't lived here in AGES! I called the number back, got "Angela" right off. "How can I help you today?"

My reply was that someone had called for someone who doesn't live here. She said, "Oh, XXX XXXX doesn't live there?" (She had my phone number, didn't need that reference number.)

She said that she was pulling my number from the list. We'll see.

    Thanks to Brian!!
I called the 800-824-6191 number (not area 775 that caller gives).  A woman answered "Hello" and after I told her the number they'd called, she asked if it was Joaquin somebody.  No, not for the years we've had the number. She said she'd remove it.

First call yesterday from these people - and it was on a Sunday.  Since New Year's I've received daily calls from at least five different collection agencies, all asking for different people - not me.  I think I will change my number.

I received a robot call that named me and requested that I call 800-824-6191 about important personal business.  In California, I believe that robots are required to identify the caller and allow me put my number on their do-not-call list.  This robot did neither and refused to disconnect despite my repeated hang-ups.  Thank God I didn't need the phone for an emergency.  I called 800-824-6191 and they said that I owed a debt and wanted me to verify personal information.  I told them that I:

    1.  disputed the debt,
    2.  they are not to call me,
    3.  they are not to have their robot call me,
    4.  would record future calls,
    5.  want them to send a letter,
    6.  so that I can sue them.

This appeared to have no effect except that they wanted to verify an address, so I began repeating myself at high volume because evidently they did not hear or understand me.  And then they hung up.  Since I have a name-only phone listing, I suppose that subjects me to their unwanted calls because someone with my name *might* have a debt they *might* be legitimately collecting.  Please, when I request a letter, we should be done.
