I received a call from this number.  It was a computer generated voice.  They left a message on the answering machine saying they were from the security dept. of my bank and that they were checking on recent debit transactions on my card.  Trouble is, the phone number they called was not mine.  It was that of a relative.  And I know for a fact that my bank doesn't have that number listed under my account.  Not only that, the relative doesn't even bank there!  I AM SURE IT IS A SCAM!  So I did not return their call.

I received a voice mail -- a computer generated voice asking that I call back to discuss some recent transactions with my paypal debit card. Trouble is, I haven't used my paypal debit card in a very long time. I logged onto my paypal account to see if there were any account alerts (there were none)and also to see if this is the contact number for them (it's not). BEWARE of this number!!

I received a call this afternoon from this number.  I didn't give them any info and asked for their number to call back. This is the number they gave.  When I called back, It was computer generated and wanted me to verify my phone.  I hung up.  I have heard of a scam where they will do anything to get the security number on your card.

I received a call from this number this morning (Saturday), but did not answer it in time. I called the 800 number back and received an automated voice (male) that said my recent activities on my phone (cell phone) needed verification to ensure against potential fraud. They asked for my last four digits of the credit card. I did not enter these after four requests and they said they would transfer me to a security specialist or something like that. The phone eventually went dead and I never spoke to a person. This is very likely some kind of scam. The complaints about this number range from people using paypal, pnc bank, and phone companies. . . very suspicious.

Received a message from unknown person claiming to be from Paypal regarding suspicious activity on my Credit Card. Was asked to call 800 830 8574 to verify my account. This is definitely a scam as Paypal would email and not call regarding any activity linked to my account.

Got a call and they said my check card has suspicious activity. I called and the first thing they wanted was my check card. I called the bank directly and there was no suspicious activity.

Didn't see the number that called me, but got 2 messages asking me to call this number back, saying they were the security dept. from my bank wanting to verify activity on my credit card. I recently started using it again (my card) after not using it for awhile so figured it was legit, but figured I'd check it out to make sure. Glad I did! I'll call my bank tomorrow and let them know about it.

Wells Fargo Credit Card Transaction Verification

The call left a message and was from Wells Fargo.  I called back and they wanted to verify transactions on my account.  Good thing they called because there were a few unknown transactions, on my account which they blocked.  They ask for the last 4 digits of your card number.

I received a call today from this number. I answered and spoke to a lady on the other end who claimed to be with my banks security. They asked if my husband and I had recently purchased items from three different places in the past week and I told her that we had. She did not ask for any other information. I then looked it up online, got a little worried, and called my bank who then identified this number as being with them and called them their "falcon department"? A department who checks up on any questionable purchases made on your account. So I think for now that this number is legit.

I got a call from these guys today. I think this is a legit service. I recently made a few rather large purchases, and they called me the next day to verify those transactions. The only info I gave them was the last 4 digits from my credit card, and verifyed my phone number that they auto-detected.

I think it is a third party that does verification for other companies.

I called my bank and they did verify that this is their credit verification system.  I called the number back and they didn't ask for any of my card information.  They asked me for my phone number and then read back my last 10 purchases to make sure they were all legit.  The reason I received this call is I purchased a $400 crib, a $200 changing table and a few other items online all with in a couple days.  They just wanted to make sure it wasn't fraud.

I called the number back, it was certainly not a scam, since they had my debit transaction history (including vendor description and date of purchase) from the past few days. This is information that only my bank or Visa would have. All they were asking was for me to confirm whether I made those purchases [press 1 for yes, 2 for no] and I identified each correctly. The only personal information I entered was the last four digits of my visa card number, which does not give potential "thieves" anything significant.

FYI, they had called me about my PNC Bank Debit card. I'm just hoping that people would stop being so paranoid about this phone call. After reading this board, I was myself scared, especially after observing the high ratio of negative to positive comments. But chill out guys, the company's looking out for your financial well-being, not robbing you.

This company is  security for bank debit cards. They are legit and its a good thing too because there was fraud on my debit card and they caught it the same day!

Absolutely legit.  This was an odd call.  No accounting for first name/middle initial/last name layout - the name John J. Johnson would have been read "J Johnson, John".  

My bank (Comerica) must use this company for verification.  I had made online purchases or automatic payments and it gave the impression that I had been in 3 different states in the past week.  As others said it only asked for the last 4 digits, which are often shown on credit card receipts anyway.

I got a voicemail from this number as well.  The first thing I did was look up the number online.  I then called my bank, since it had to do with my Visa checkcard.  I told the person I spoke with that I got a call from an 800 number and was suspicious, so I called them directly.  This is a legitimate number.  They connected me with their fraud dept who wanted to verify the last 5 transactions I had made.  They didn't ask for any information, since I was already talking to my bank.

If anyone has any concerns, they should contact their bank or CC company and get connected that way.

I was a little scared too - it turns out my bank (PNC) uses them as a third party fraud detection company.
