This number calls me at least 10 times a day, never leaves a message. When I call it back, they answer with "if you know your partiy's extension...." without identifying the company

This is Everest University Online.  Usually, they are trying to contact a former/current student for a variety of reasons.  If they're calling you, be sure to answer because you're probably listed as a reference (if you're not a student).  Also, if you let them know it's a wrong number (if you don't know the person they are asking for, of course) they're good about taking your number off their list.

Most of the time, though, several calls a day means that either the Collections Dept. or the CDR Dept. is calling.  If they say something like "We have very urgent information for so-and-so," it's probably CDR and they are trying to get in contact with former students who may be in danger of defaulting on their loans. To Default means to be so delinquent on your student loans that they are bought out by the government and then your wages and/or tax returns are garnished and even further federal student aid requests are denied.  Default ruins your credit and takes a LONG time to reverse.  The CDR Dept. at every higher education school attempts to keep people from defaulting.

Needless to say, if you're a former student...answer the phone :)  I learned the hard way!
