    they're sneaky
Got a call on a number that wasn't even listed in my name and wanted to know about someone i knew over 5 years ago in another state.  I asked them who they were and Pam stated "it doesn't matter".  How rude.  I asked how they got my name with this number and she stated that is how it is listed- wrong- wrong number and wrong address.  I told her I was concerned due to identity theft and asked what the company was and she only stated DSC out of Texas.  She had left a message earlier stating I had been listed as a reference.  Kinda screwy.  800-927-7667 or 325-224-6633 are the numbers I have.

Got a call reqesting to talk to an employee of ours.  He is on the job site and not in the office.  She left a message which I gave to him.  She called back 2 days later and again today.  I asked her to stop calling here, if it is a personal matter between them and him, then she should call him at home and quit tying up the business phone here.  She said she would not quit calling here unless the employee they were trying to reach told them to.  I will just hang up next time.  Tired of getting harrassed about someone else's debt.

About an hour ago I home from work. Neighbors, who I hardly know, stopped me in driveway, gave me these numbers and name: Cindy Harris, 325-224-6631, 1-800-927-7667. Said she had called their house looking for me telling them she lost my number. I don't even know these numbers, and no idea how this woman got their number and address to know they live next door to me! Neighbors said she made it sound like she's a friend... NO WAY! Scary because I do not enter contests, I do not owe anybody any money...there is NO reason for mysterious calls to my neighbors about me.. Oh, I did do an area code look up ---it's from Texas----I don't have any business or friends there.. still creepy.. By the way, I just called a friend, she said used to get these calls - turns out a her step-sister had used her name as a reference when getting a credit card - so, now that sis is delinquent so card co. coming after my friend.. Jeepers! there oughta be a law!

Just got a call from 1 800-927-7667 x7896 (Stephie Hawkins) saying to call her.  No reason why I should call or the purpose.  I called and got an answering machine.  I suppose they are looking for a relative of mine, but I have no idea where they are myself.  They owe me money too.  Good luck DCS.  Ha! We both got screwed.

    Annoyed
Someone named Julie Wynne called and spoke as if we were friends, asking about a neighbor.  Names were given, but it became strange when I asked for her number and she gave this 800 number.  She asked if I knew the people she was looking for and found it odd that I did not socialize with them.  "Julie" spoke as if she had visited my street, talking about a non-existent community pool.  Modern day con job.

I just got a call from David Moore of DCS based out of California.  It was from the same 1-800 number everyone's been listing.  He wanted to know something about my sister -- is it possible it has something to do with Law? My sister's often in court with her son for child support from his deadbeat dad.  In any case, before I called him back (because he left a message) i found this website and all of your comments.  I decided to bring it up while talking to him that I (1) didn't know who he was (2) that others online received calls from DCS and didn't know who they were.  He said it was illegal for him to give me that information.  He wanted to know another # to reach my sister, I told him I did not feel obliged to do so.  Also he said it was a SMALL COMPANY based out of CALIFORNIA. How are there so many "small companies"?  Above you have listed TEXAS, OREGON and now CALIFORNIA. I agree, FISHY!!

    Curious & Concerned
Got a message on my machine yesterday from a Lisa Ray telling me she had a message for me (used my name and left this message on my CELL PHONE) and told me to call her back at 1-800-927-7667 ex 3581.  After doing research on google with the number, it turns out it's a collection agency in California from defaulted student loans and supposed "tax debt".  One site had forums where people were told they owed $14,000 in the state of VA when they never even lived in VA.

As everyone else has said on here, I got a voice message, and told them that if they had a message for me, they can leave it on my message machine since that is the purpose of such a voice mail system...

As for doing the research, it opened my eyes into thinking they are trying to compromise my identity.  I put an alert on my credit, and I already put a lock on my credit through Equifax, who will also monitor my credit report with the other 2 agencies.  So, since this crap is fishy, I recommend everyone call the FTC at 1-877-438-4338 and put an alert on your credit, just in case!  Hope this helps you all!

    Your Tax Dollars at Work
Call, Write, E-mail your senator and representatives in Congress, both state and federal. DCS is one of the subcontractors for Direct Loans. As a subcontractor, if our government gets enough complaints, they will not renew their contract.  Remember that each handwritten letter is considered to represent 10 votes, since so few people actually take the time to write.  What DCS (Diversified Collection Service) is doing is illegal, they have already lost a case in court.  fair-debt-collection.com is a good place to find the laws regarding their harassment.

I received a call from Angela Belasco of Diversified Collection Services (DCS). She called threatening to garnish my wages for default student loans. I do not have any default loans. I confirmed this with NY Higher Ed and the Dept of Ed. When I asked what information they had on file for me such as DOB, address, phone, they were unable to confirm any of this correctly. To top it off, they did not have the legal spelling of my name. They are very interested in getting your social security number. Do not give them any info. Angela's direct extention is 541-956-7993. Feel free to call her and harass her right back!

    mad as hell
These jack heads have called family members trying to get my information. They have called my parents, two uncles, my brother and an old associate I hadn't talked to in years. Who are the people? They say they're with DCS about a job application I filled out. I've been at the same job for two years and never applied to a company based in Washington or Texas, (it varies depending on the message). This is crazy. Is there no way to stop them?

All I know is this is a collection agency called DCS (Diversified Collection Services) for a long time I dodged their calls only for them to go straight to garnishing me my SSI check. They didn't have to take me to court or nothing. I guess cuz it is a government student loan. Well when I called they were such a great help they put me in a very minimum payment plan and got me out of default within 30 days. I would definitely recommend calling them if they are calling u they really helped out a lot and work with me if you don't be ready for ur wages to be garnished because I could have stopped the headache if I would have just talked to them oh yeah and if u own a home they can also put a lien against any assets u may have. Call them let them know ur situation u will be amazed on how much they will help u

    Legit number
This is a legit collection company, and they might be calling as a reference about someone you know who they are trying to collect on. They are not very friendly but they are not actually all that bad. By law, they are not allowed to tell you they are calling about a debt, so they might make something up like a job interview or something. I don't know how legal that is, but that might be why.

I am working with them on a debt (they actually hooked me up with a pretty reasonable plan) and they left me a message reminding me they are going to take money out of my account a week from today. It was not telemarketing at all.

Got a call on saturday 10/3 asking for me personally, since my phone isn't listed in my name i pretended i was someone else and asked to take a message. Marie Johnson said she needed to talk to me in regards to checking a reference that someone put me down for but wouldn't give the name. Here to find out, that the 800-927-7667 is associated with another # 325-224-6331 that called me at work today as well. Asking for a phone # of my ex stating he used me as a reference for a new job.  I'm getting the impression this is a debt collection company.

So I get a call from a "Page Andrews" (no doubt not her real name) from the 541-955-7800 number asking for someone I went to college with more 20 years ago. I recognized the name only because I recently "friended" this person after finding her in a special-interest group on Facebook. The caller refused to tell me why she was calling and asked that I pass a message to this person because "she had important information" to deliver. I pressed for more information, and all she would give me was a direct call-back number of 800-927-7667, ext. 7774. After some internet investigation, I called "Page" back to ask her why my name was affiliated with this person and how she had gotten my contact info, keeping a calm and professional tone with her. Obviously, they are coached that if they are challenged, to play the "why are you being rude with me" card in an effort to justify hanging up. Well, when I told her that I suspected her organization was phishing for contacts via social networking sites, she hung up on me! The ONLY way I would EVER be associated with the person this caller was looking for was through this Facebook group membership. We have common friends in this network, but none of which I have spoken to in decades. I am now confident that these scumbags are now trolling MySpace, Facebook, etc. for friends of friends, finding their contact information and then trying to trick them into providing info on their target. It's unfortunately probably an effective tactic, unless you did what I did.
