got a phone call from an indian man who claimed he works for microsoft and that I had malicious virus on my laptop that needed to be clean.  Said no thanks

Looks like it's a router number.  I got an Indian dude trying to sell me on some half-baked retouching service.

They call and hang up - probably a Google voice phone number being used to mask their real number.

I run a carpet cleaning business and get a lot of characters calling me from some long distance number claiming they can do wonders for my ranking with Google. Anyway, this character called with an Indian Accent wanting to speak to the top man.  I said that would be me and then he proceeded to read a script that he couldn't be interrupted with.  I hung up, but a couple of hours later called back to find out what the name of his company was? To my surprise the number was a Verizon number, but the recording said it had already been disconnected or is unreachable?   I knew he was a scam artist. If in doubt, hang up and call back to find out who answers? You would be surprised at what you find out.

Lynx41 - I own a carpet cleaning business too and I get these calls all the time.  Everyone wanting to rank me first on Google or sell me phone book ads or help me take credit cards.  Any number that is outside my 3 local area codes and doesn't have an id that I recognize I don't answer.

I got the same call and when I amswered Affordable Computers they hung up, so I googled and found this forum. Pretty sure that they knew they had called the wrong number. When you see these 804 and other bogus numbers on your home phone answer it FTC how may I direct your call, see how fast they hang up.

This number has been calling me for the last few weeks, up to 15 times a day.  Tonight I was home so answered.  Indian sounding guy who asked to confirm my name was "last name, initial" - I said they had a wrong number to get rid of him but he then asked me to confirm my address, which annoyed me, so I said no.  He then went on to say my computer was infected with a virus and I needed to delete some files.  I asked who he was, he said "Ryan", I asked who he worked for and he said "Microsoft".  I asked which division of Microsoft he worked for and he said he was a Microsoft partner and I had to turn my computer on to delete some files.  I questioned how he got my number and he started to get angry, saying that I was at risk and other people in my network were also at risk.  Asked him to explain again from the beginning what the problem was and he said my PC had a virus and he was from Microsoft and was going to help me delete the files, that's when I told him I had a MAC.  "No, you have a PC registered at this address" he shouted.  No I don't, because I don't have a PC.  I asked for a call back number and told him that i also worked for Microsoft so would check the details at work tomorrow.  That's when he hung up.  About to file a complaint on the Do Not Register site.

I just found this site due to receiving calls from this # myself.  I am in VA and our area code is 804.  It's not a bogus #.  It's just a bogus guy using it!  It was an indian man that I couldn't understand at all.  He was calling our company as well.  Hopefully, no one else will fall for one of his many obvious scams.

That same guy called me while my dad was cooking, so I tried to take a message. He then proceed to try and get me to take the bait, I repeatedly told him I am a minor, but then (he didn't know what that was so I explained it to him) he asks my age and keeps guessing it. Asks if I go to school, which I say yes, it's the law. I then tell him look buddy why don't you call back when an adult is around and can answer the call or better yet don't call this number again. He then, said he needed to know my age so that he could tell me his important information. I just hung up on him, I hope he stops calling.

I just got a call from him also and he asked me to turn on my computer and just lean back and he would do all the work to help clean up my computer.  I said sorry but I don't know who you are.  He said he works for a cmpter company for Microsoft.  I was working and said I will contact Microsoft Directly.  I hung up.  But I have had a Technician recently work on my computer recently because I had turned it on and the screen was blank.  It was from a good company. Have any of you had any work done on your cmputer?

Just got a call from this number. Indian guy wanting to speak to the owner of our business and he actually got the business name correct.  Regarding page rank on google.  hung up and called back, message from verison saying this number has been disconnected or changed.

I have received a call from 804-466-9633 every day for the last week. no answer just a call then they disconnect.

can someone report them to Verizon?  if its a wireless # and he is using it this way i'm
sure its against his contract

I recieve calls from this number at least once a day. When I answer, no one says anything and hangs up. Considering this forum, I will no longer answer. Thanks for the help everyone.

Keeps calling but won't leave a message.  I wouldn't call the jerk back.  You think they'd get the message.   You don't answer the phone when they call....maybe we should stop calling this number.  Duh!!!!!

The same scam as everyone else - Some woman with a heavy accent saying that they were notified that we had a virus on our computer.  Yeah, right.  Phone display only said Cell Phone, VA.

I'm in Australia and have now had three calls from this number over the past week. Did a google search and found this forum, glad I choose to ignore the calls. Will be reporting to Australian authorities.

Who can I report this to?...FTC?
