Called about my health care plan- knew the plan name and left the 800 number on the caller ID to call back. I only speak to my health care provider when they call me so I am not returning the call. I know the call did not come from my insurance carrier.

This call is from Matrix Medical.  They provide home nurse care assessments.  I received a letter a few weeks back from my health insurance company letting me know they offer the assessments at no cost.  This call was to schedule the appointment.  They are legit.

This number appeared on my caller ID with a name "Unavailable" so I did not answer and immediately went online to see who it was. If this is from a legit company "Medical Matrix" then why doesn't the name come up? Why are they the source of so many questionable calls with inconsistent messages. I don't care if they are legit, I wouldn't give them the time of day. Why have further interaction with a total stranger and risk unwittingly giving them information that results in you getting scammed, stalked, your information sold, your identity stolen, your house robbed or something worse. What is being offered that is worth that risk?

As a previous phone company employee, the reason why the number is appearing as unavailable on your caller id is that the phone companies normally ONLY update the books and other technologies once per year,  toward the end of the year (middle - end of December).  This service that is being offered to you is offered by YOUR health provider, you don't have to take my word, all you need to do is call them to verify that these assessment are for YOUR benefit.  The results of the exam will NOT be used to change your coverage or your rates or to charge you additional fees, in fact the health providers use the information to initiate quality measures that end up reducing yours and theirs health care cost.

Being on the DNC (Do Not Call) list ONLY applies to telemarketers and other company that cold call for sales/service.  It however DOES NOT apply to your health provider or any other company that YOU are doing business with, or the companies that they contract to call on their behalf

This company just called me at 9:05am EST (withing the guidelines for Telemarketing calls).  So far so good!  Their people have extremely harsh to understand accents, so many times you will find yourself saying "can you please repeat that"  (very annoying !!).

Yes, they did say that I received a letter from my health ins company (very true, I did) saying someone would be calling me to set up an appt for a visiting nurse to go over all my needs if I wish to participate.

These are NOT hard or cold telemraketing calls.   They have been AUTHORIZED by your health care provider to call you !

You have the option of setting up an appointment and having a Nurse come to you and assess your needs that perhaps your doctor is unaware of or you can tell them "Thanks, but no thanks!!"

However, this is actually a legitimate call..............a real life legit call.....How refreshing although annoying !!!!!!!

They are a bit defensive when you say you are NOT interested and do try to tell you of the benefits, but I firmly said "You stated who you are, I declined the offer so now this call is complete, Thank You and Have a Good Day", and with that I hung up while they wer still being persistent !!!

Not to butt heads, however they have been authorized by your insurance company.  This is something new that health care ins providers are doing in the hopes of keeping their cost down by assessing you at home and your home for safety issues such as if you were elderly and had scatter rugs in the home all over to trip over or were in need of safety grab bars etc.

They are making sure that your environment is safe to help eliminate home accidents etc.

I have had this done in the past and what you see as decortive, they may see as a hazard in your home.  Sometimes you get a good asssessor, sometimes not........but it still feels like an invasion of privacy but because you invited them in, techinically it is not!

Personally, as a former Nurse I understand where the insurance companies are coming from, but they need to do a better job at doing this type of thing.

Yes I understand that it is a company called Medical Matrix and yes maybe their number hasn't been updated in the ID service, but can you blame anyone for not answering when it comes up Toll Free Caller?  99.9% of those are telemarketers or debt collectors not even looking for you but someone else. And yes I was aware of HAP recently mentioning them contacting me for a home health assessment. I feel like most others if the call comes up anonymous I ain't answering it. A legitimate service would include their name. I got an anonymous call once that was trying to sell additional service for my Comcast cable service. I asked if they were working for Comcast? They said no they were a third party working affiliate. I said have Comcast call me and I will talk to them. I won't talk to someone hiding behind an 800 number or anonymous caller.

It apparently is telemarketing for UPMC Medicare insurance. Doesn't speak well to UPMC, the huge hospitals-health insurance nonprofit international conglomerate based in Pittsburgh.
