I keep getting this calls the man says he is a debt settlement firm, i want to know more this practice of collection. i've asked him if he is a debt collecter and he says no.

I recieved a call from a lady at this number.  actually a voicemail, but she did not mention the company name or what type of company they are, but she tried acting like she was with a law firm.  she said she was calling regarding file number (then said a bunch of numbers) with attachment ( a bunch of numbers) and she threw out alot more numbers till she finally said it is attached to my name and social.  she then said there is a process set this friday unless she hears from me or my lawyer, and mentioned something about defrauding a financial institution.  i thought debt collectors could not give out info like that? Then making indirect threats of fraud? I heard its illegal to threaten to charge someone without actually following through.

Ok so did a little more research after another voicemail from them, which treatened me if i did not take imediate action.  They ARE a collection agency.  and leading you to believe they are something else (such as a law firm or gov agency) is illegal! According to sources they are Audubon Fibancial Bureau aka afb and associates.  google audubon financial bureau and you will read many of their illegal scare tactics used to collect.  They threatened me with a writ of execution before anyone has even taken me to court.  Next time they call tell them you perfer to communicate via u.s. mail, or if they threaten you ask then to send that info via certified mail.  they wont.  ignore them. unless you intentionally committed fraud there is nothing they can do to you besides call you.  i filed a complaint wit the ftc today.  hopefully enough people file complaints on them so something gets done
