I finally answered this call after missing it with no message several times.  The person I spoke with claimed to be a visa/mastercard representative, rewarding me with a package.  He then asked for my complete credit card information (name, expiration date, card number) to ensure my reward package was sent to the right person.  I had a bad feeling, so I asked him to contact me by email.  He seemed very frustrated and pleaded with me to give the info.  I feel like it was an identity theft attempt, but I guess I can't tell for sure.

Got calls from this and other numbers from the 855 exchange -- finally answered and the person repeately asked me if "i am the owner of this number". Told them wrong number. They called back a minute later and were hostile -- I told them to never call again or I'd report them. Caller then became incredibly profane and abusive and then hung up on me.

The number may appear as 1 855-800-3144 (in the US the "1" may be stripped off.) In Australia the "1" remains. The caller may indicate they are from a marketing company, Telstra Corporation , Mastercard or possibly another entity claiming they need your Credit Card credentials. This smacks a a fraud attempt and DO NOT give them any of your details. They may state they can give you a better deal / plan and need the info to process their offer to you. If in AU, report the issue to Smart Watch /or ACMA or ask your Telecommunications Supplier to raise a security report for you. If in the event you have given your details out, contact your bank immediately and report the matter.

They called my cell phone and told me that they got a report that my computer was infected with junk files and that it will slow my computer down and eventually crash it.  The guy had a very heavy Indian accent and he said he was calling from ISS, Internet.... couldn't understand him.  He wanted to get on my computer. I was driving and he asked when he could call me back when I was sitting in front of my computer.  I lied and said I was on the way to the airport and he said he would call me back later.  Seemed really fishy.  We scan our computer at least twice a week for viruses and junk files.

An Indian man called saying that he was from a computer research company, and that they had acquired my IP and that my computer was infected with very new and agressive malware/virus and that I needed to connect to their  website immediately.  He was extremely evasive when I asked for the company that he was working for.  I told this gentleman that my computer was well protected and that this call was at an end, and hung up on him.

Oh, you can be sure, attempted theft is exactly what it was. No legitimate company is going to call you out of the blue and ask for your credit card information unless it's someone you know and have instructed to call to get payment for a job they did.

Same here, Just moments ago. I played along for a few minutes to see if they actually knew anything about my computer. (I use a Mac). I pretended to not know much about computers and told them it must be my daughters computer and to please call back in a hour. I'm still trying to figure out what the scam is, but rest assured it is a scam. I would imagine they will instruct you to do things that will plant a virus and allow them to steal your data from your computer.

just called here - I never answer unknown numbers but appreciate knowing I have avoided an invasive and abusive caller.  Thieves and bandits continue to come up with new scams to steal.

I got this call, too.  He said he was from "IT Helpdesk" and I had downloaded a virus or something.  I played along to see if I could figure out what the scam was.  If it wasn't so irritating that this kind of stuff goes on, it would have been quite humorous.  He said, "You see at the bottom of your keyboard a key that says 'C-T-R-L'? That stands for Control.  And next to it is a four flag windows key? Now press that key with one finger."  I laughed and said, "oh, just one finger? No more than one? OK"  Turns out he wanted me to hold the key down  while pressing the R and that's why he said "one finger" but I found it funny.  Then, he instructed me to type in www.emmy.com.  I didn't get that far.  I asked him a bunch of questions and he spoke so fast with a heavy foreign accent I didn't understand a word he said, except his name was supposedly Jonathan Parker... yeah right.  I wish I was more computer savvy so I could have figured out the scam without actually entering anything, but I really don't know what happens when you Run www.emmy.com and I was too afraid to find out.

got a call from this company with a similar scam to what everyone else said above.  Something about malware/spyware on my computer.  Thick Indian accent.  He stated I was in front of my computer.  I immediately hung up and he called right back.  Did not and will not answer again.

Similar situation as others.  Man with heavy Indian accent told me my computer sent several messages indicating it was infected with a virus and that he was a Windows tech that could fix the problem.  He could not give me any info about my computer.  I asked who he was calling and said Dennis.  My name ain't Dennis.  When I call this number tge name of the company is "My Local Home Improvement Group" and the message is recorded by a woman with an Indian accent.

Same thing going on here. Got a call from an man with heavy indian accent saying my computer was relaying information to his company indicating it had download malicious software/virus and was going to crash at any moment and was trying to direct me to avoid such a situation. First flag, I've had viruses in the past and I've never received a direct call from anyone from IT, so I knew something was wrong right off the bat. He then wanted to confirm if i was running windows xp or vista and I inquired why he had to ask since he supposedly was getting information from my computer...second flag. So i hung up and googled the number and found this forum....third flag. After I hung up, I got another call from 866-289-9940 from same man...last flag....definitely a SCAM!
