They said they were the IRS, barely spoke English,  when I questioned them, they hung up

They leave a message which states they are giving you final notice that the IRS is suing you and ask you to call back for information. I wanted to call just to give them a piece of my mind but twice I got a recording saying the person whose # this was has a new number 858-8184 (no area code). I got called by them twice today and if it continues, I'm not going to be too happy!

Someone from this # called my dad. He's hard of hearing and couldn't understand them. They hung up. No answer when I called back. Then found this site.

I came home and there was this recorded message informing me that the IRS is filing a lawsuit against me, so I should call. After calling back a guy with an Indian accent said he was Officer Roger Williams with Badge # IRM 786512  and gave me a case file number. Then he proceeded to tell me that after careful review of my 2009 -2014 taxes there were discrepancies and I was being audited. That I owe the IRS $6,495 and if I did not settle this payment I would be arrested.  My caller ID states that the call originated from California so red flag I have never been to California why would the IRS call from California? Also most people get scared by the word audit so with tax season ending in two days, what better time for these scammers to sow fear and rip off the unsuspecting in return?  I told mr Roger Williams I shall call my Attorney  and went on Google to search this 858 number so please be aware. In my google search I learned this " The IRS will *not* contact you by phone asking for money. They only contact you by snail mail if they want to get in touch with you. So if you get one of these calls, hang up the phone!

I just receive the same phone call me got me in such a panic. I have not even filed yet. Should I have even bother. I called the number back but no one answered. I'm nervous I don't want to mess with the IRS bi don't want any problems. What should I do?

Right above yours is a post from Mau which explains this scam in detail.  If you look down the homepage of this website you will see that dozens, if not hundreds, of other Americasns are receiving the same scam calls.  The bottom line is that THE IRS NEVER 'PHONE, they always write.  The scam is that, if you are frightened into believing them they will "agree" to accept a smaller payment if you do it immediately, over the 'phone!

I had the exact same thing happen to be today with same amount as MAU. They hung up quick when I asked if this was a scam. They called back later and I didn't answer. The message was the same as earlier.
