They never called but I did a search on the number before completing the transaction.

This person(s) are committing internet fraud. They are running automobile scams and in fact scammed a family member the first week of July 2008. Another number they are using is:  214-481-4193

This person is located in California. They are listing in Craigs List and selling fictitious cars to unsuspecting consumers. They try and have you send money via Money Gram and even send you a receipt/invoice from EBay. Yes, you heard that right, they send an invoice from Ebay. They convince people that Ebay will handle the transaction for Craigs List and con folks into believing this. They say the car will be delivered and that Money Gram will hold the money in escrow to make sure you are satisfied, and then go on to say that the money is refundable within a certain amount of days.

They use GMail addresses and have gone under such names as:

My daughter told me about this wonderful deal she found on Craig's List - an Air Force sergeant named James Campbell who was selling a hybrid at a very low price. I was suspicious and googled Ebay Motors complaints; when I saw this site, it was almost word-for-word what this guy told her in an email. He said he was in the UK and needed to sell his Hybrid, that it was costing too much to  have overseas; he cited import costs, etc. and it all sounded good. He also lived in California and I noticed the other two names on this site have the same email address as his. He was pressuring her with emails about making this deal or losing it - I told her if it was such a good deal he would have several offers to buy it and he wouldn't need to pressure anyone. Thanks for the posts on this site. I'm sorry if anyone is falling for this scam. This was done by email from Craig's List - no phone calls were made.

This just happened to me I found a car on craig's list, he gave me the same Air force over-sea's and I fell for it. I just lost 4850.00 and don't know what to do. If anyone has any information please let me know I want to get this sucker.

ok I contacted the ftc and they told me to report the addresses to spam@uce.gov, its best to file a complaint with them it took me only 5 minutes. Then they gave me a reference number to include in the subject field. Everyone should call there resources and see what connections they may have and lets help put an end to this.

This guy got me with the name of

Add me to the list of scamees. They are good. My husband is in the Army and a little nervous so he looked up in the military database and the Sargeants name checked out, and he was stationed in London. After we realized we were scammed my husband called London to find out that the Sargeant had been deployed but was stationed there. I called Attorney Generals Offices here in Texas and Washington (they said call FBI) Finally got through to Houston FBI and they were very sympathetic but said they just don't have the man power. My friend and I are on a crusade to destroy these crooks. EVERYONE hound your local news stations. The more the word gets out the better our chances. Another Statewide scam uses Chicago to collect money in. And to keep under felony, they request "downpayment only" use the same eBay Motors claim etc. This fax # also originates in California San Jose area 408-228-1988. They do not claim to be servicemen but are just as ruthless.

I'm glad I found this site before I sent any money.  They offered to sell me a 2006 Honda Pilot for $4990.  It's worth at least $17000.  They used a character by the name of MSgt Robert Gaylor who is supposedly in London.  I'm in the military myself and knew that a lot of the things he was telling me were a little suspect.  I'm sorry for anyone that fell for this.

Same here, I found the listing on craiglist for the 2006 Honday Pilot for $4990 and sent Robert Gaylor and email asking questions, he nevers asnwers any of my questions except the generic replies, everyon BE AWARE of SCAMERS if is sounds too good is probably not real:  se below some of the replies I received:  I have found several others like this one last year and I picked up on the wording and know that is a scam.

this is a scam so turn around and run the other direction if you dont believe me just google nsme stationed in UK you will witness all the individuals they have already scammed.  Just be thankful that it was not you and will not be the one they are laughing at all the way to the bank.  I hope they take it off of craigs list.

I too found a car, 2006 Honda Pilot on craigs list. The seller Robert Gaylor. He told me that ebay would take ove rthe transaction. After talking with a few co-workers and friends I decided to do a little research. I contacted ebay and they told me it was a scam, for the simple reason that ebay doesn't handle anything  with craigs list. I almost got scammed, but because of the little voice in my head that kept saying "If it sounds too good to be true then it probably is".

I too was scammed by this person! Unbelievable! I even typed in the man's name MSgt Robert Gaylor to google and a wikipedia page came up of some military man in the air force. I really help this scammer gets caught.. Here's what he wrote for us :

Both of them were to the sum of $4,000 to $5,000 U.S. Dollars.

Beware.

I am currently scamming this scammer. I know it probably won't do much good, but why not have some fun screwing with a total [***]? Also, see additional details below about the domain name they use to complete the transaction (it is not gmail).

The email these people used to send the invoice LOOKS like it comes from eBay Motors: eBay Motors [support@vppfinancialdept.com]. I looked up the owner of vppfinancialdept.com and it was registered, on Friday, March the 13th, by a gal in California. Here are additional details from the invoice:
