- TW| 1 replySupposedly a rep from Microsoft, saying my computer is infected. Gave his name as Jason Clark at 855-481-5399. That's WalMarts number
- Caller: Microsoft
- Call type: Prank
- Rob replies to TWYeah ,don't you know him, he's got a desk in the scam aisle between the IRS (go to jail aisle) and the debt collection aisle. There near the tinned Indian vegetables. The things you get in Wal-Mart. Eh.
- Jaime WarbuckThis caller claims to be from Geek Support and states that my computer is sending automatic error reports to him. Can't tell me the correct Operating System or version....This is a total scam....
- RobScam, calls and hangs up. Block the number if you can,
- Caller: No name
- RonaldSame as Jaime Warbuck: Called, says he is from Geek support, says there is a lot of garbage coming from my computer, wants to check it out. Computer wasn't even on. Is very pushy, went on and on. Wants me to turn my computer on so he can check it out. Guy had a middle eastern or Arabic accent.
- GregThey called my cell phone, name unknown. I ignored it.I don't give out my cell number
- geebeeIt's a scam. Just pretend like he's your son calling and start acting like his mom/dad and say "Well, the squirrels are back. Your mom/dad won't call an exterminator. He/she says it's personal this time. It's noisy, are you taking a Zumba class?" Talk over them and eventually they will hang up. It is hilarious!!!
- Caller: Geek Squad
- Someone You Don't KnowGot this call and guy claimed to be from Windows company (lol). Told me he was getting error reports from my computer. Told him it would take a while to get my computer turned on (lol -- I own three computers, all running 24/7). After five minutes, I finally told him I was logging in. He went a way round about way to get me to load Internet Explorer with an IP address using the Run dialog. Recognizing he was likely sending me to a malicious site, I obviously didn't actually load it up, but claimed I had. He asked me what came up and I told him I was getting a 404 error and feigned ignorance of what a 404 error was. He was terribly confused and frustrated but offered to pass me on to his supervisor. At this point I finally revealed I knew it was a scam and that I was just... well, let's just say I didn't used kind words to express the sentiment that I was purposely wasting their time.
If only I had had a Windows VM loaded in VirtuaBox I could have used to let him go further, seen what he was really up to... *chuckles*
Seriously. Do everything in your power to stall them. 'Mishear' their instructions, typo anything they tell you to type in. Whatever you do, just don't let them have you connect your system to any system they control. - kathyCaller stated computers in my area code were infected, wanted me to shut down computer, hung up on him, should have told him I didn't even have a computer. Number is now blocked.
