I just received a call from this number stating it was about a legal matter and they would be sending paperwork which needs to be signed for. Who are these people.

They are a big scam "collection agency" who CLEARLY violates FDCPA guidelines.  They called me too and I called the lady back and not once did she advise if that this "Is an attempt to collect a debt and blah blah' which is a MUST to not violate FDCPA.  They were calling on a time barred debt (usually credit card debt) where the statue of limitations are up on it anyway.  Anyway, I called the "so called company" back and spoke to a lady who didn't like me very well because I wasn't taking any of her bullcrap.  She said she was from the Woodchester Group.  At first she said she signed off on a file and sued me which SHE DIDN'T...then she threatened to sue me ..which she won't.  All violations of FDCPA.  I'm gathering up information and will send this to the state attorney generals office and the FTC and try and shut these idiots down

We just received a phone call from these individuals as well I contacted my local police department. All they continue to do is hang up the phone they have given me 3 names of who they are with and an address that leads me to a UPS store in Riverside California.

THE POINT IS PEOPLE IF YOU PAY YOUR BILLS YOU'LL NEVER GET CALLS FROM THESE KID OF PLACES. COMPANY'S SELL YOUR DEBT PEOPLE...I'VE HAD THE SAME NUMBER FOR 30 YEARS AND I'VE NEVER IN MY LIFE GOTTEN A CALL FROM A COLLECTIONS AGENT........WHY IS THAT BECAUSE I PAY MY BILLS....I'M AN ATTORNEY AND THESE CASES ARE VERY HARD TO WIN BEING THAT YOU OWE A OUTSTANDING BILL... WITH LOVE BE RESPONSIBLE WITH YOU INFORMATION WHEN U GET A CREDIT CARD, LOAN, ETC TAKE CARE OF YOUR BUSINESS...ON TIME.....END OF STORY

I also received a message from this number about some documents that needed to be served to me and I called them back. I was told that I was going to be sued, I also thought that it was a scam but it is true, because I didn't volunteer to resolve this matter out of court, they they were able to get a judgement against me and they have been taking 25% of my earnings...I just wish I would have resolved this matter before it had to come to this point.

When they call me now I give them the phone number to the FTC or an 800 phone sex number, I have even given them the phone number to my local police department, non-emergency number of course. Since reporting them to the FTC isn't working I am buying an air phone this weekend and will blast them with that. I also called "the Winchester Group" and left them a message that if it's there company every time they call me I will call them, if it's not their company then they will want to get on board and stop them also.

There are probably many others I haven't found yet.

These people are DEBT COLLECTORS.  They buy debts for pennies on the dollar.  They are rude and like to threaten with jail time.  This is the United States.  Debtor's prison went out over 16 years ago and you can't be put in jail for a debt unless it is child support or the IRS (in which case they are not going to use these bottom feeders to collect!).

DO NOT give out any personal information over the phone.  Tell them you want a written letter of validation.  Let them know you know your rights under the FDCPA and the FTC.  Use the above addresses to send cease and desist letters.  (Not that they will actually stop!)  Send them by certified mail with a return receipt.  Ask them for their full name, the name of the company they work for, the name of the original creditor and the amount of the original debt.  DO NOT admit to owing the debt.  Tell them you will investigate the debt and that if you do in fact owe the debt will discuss with the original creditor a payment plan.  They will get nasty and rude with you...just hang up!
