These people are calling my home as well and let me tell you Its M Callahan and associates and from the research I have found they are scams so dont give them any money. There are some other posts on here from dealings with this companies and the are a debt collector not lawyers as they say.

I just got a call from this man who, like "Jrnationgal88" said, claimed to work for M. Callahan and Associates.

He never calls and speaks to you live but rather leaves a voicemail stating that you must call him back at 866-402-4043.

I called him back to tell him to remove my number from his call list because I had been receiving calls from him weekly and had no idea who he was.

So he answered the phone, I gave him my phone number and told him to remove it from his list.  He was rude and in a harsh manner told me to repeat the number.  I told him to be more polite and professional.  He got very angry and asked, "Would you like to just speak to the judge?  You can tell him to be more polite."  Then he puts down the phone and yells out, "Hey, can you connect this woman to the judge, she thinks she can tell people what to do!"  No one responded to him, and there was no background noise.  He sounded completely alone.  Then, he puts me on hold.  I hung up.

Within five minutes, I called him back.  He answered, and I told him, as I had before, to remove my phone number from his call list.  He claimed that he doesn't call people, he just talks.  Then he said he could not find my phone number and that he would need more information from me to find my file and remove my number from his list.  I said that he obviously had my number because I kept getting calls from him.  He said, "Obviously you aren't understanding this very simple point, honey."  Then he started rambling and giggling.  He also claimed to be an attorney.  I said, "I don't care.  Just remove my number."

After much incoherent drivel on his part, I ended the conversation by saying, "You sound crazy.  Just remove me from your list."

This guy is a complete lunatic.  He is a scammer, not an attorney.  I have the feeling he was completely alone and naked on his toilet while making the calls.

I too received one of these calls, on 3/16/11 at 12:13 P.M. while traveling through Vermont. The caller (who left a message) sounded indignant and claimed he'd tried to contact me "numerous times" and demanded a return call from me or else the attorney representing me. (Since I am not being represented by an attorney, I suspected this was a scam, and that I might incur a fee for returning the call.) The calls are coming from 802-448-9081. There is no 448 exchange in Vermont, so I suspect this person is using a 'spoof box' to mask his real calling number.

I got a voicemail stating that "I have ignored repeated attempts to contact me and clear up this "bounced" check in his office." First of all, I haven't bounced a check in, gosh, I don't know how long!!! Since I was young and first starting out with a checking account! Anyway, he said I needed to call him back and resolve this before it goes to the next level! I don't know what that might be, but I am sooooo fed up with calls from people, some are threatening me and my job and wanting money on the spot! Some will say they will come to my work and take me to jail in handcuffs and all my co-workers will see!!
I am about to change my phone number, but then I feel like they would win!!

Lots of people are getting these calls. After awhile they change the number. How about if we call them back and make unsubstantiated statements about them !

Rec'd same message evening hours 6/16/11 from a "Kathy Porter" from M Callahan, claiming name & SS# reported and requiring resolution "within 24 Hrs"
Hopefully this scam is on alert somewhere.

This person has called me multiple times, but I do not return the call, if I owe mone surely you would sent me a bill in the mail, the debt collection agencies I have delt with have no problem sending a bill in the mail with the name the debtor and the amount owed.

I got a different number on my caller ID (971-228-0117) as the number they said to call back on (866-402-4043) so I too, think it is a scam...well I pretty much know it is because they say that I HAVE to call back (or my attorney) in 24 hours or else.
I am so tired of these people trying to scam me and all of you! What can we do????
I feel like changing my number (but I feel like they would "win") and or trying to call them back via prankcalls.com or something like that. See how they like it!!!

Just got a call from 866 402-4043 stating I am being charged with fraud on two counts and that I need to call this number back within 24 hours before it gets any further.  Gave me an ref number to call back.  This is also a recorded msg sounds like a computer.. not a live person.

I keep getting calls on my cell and work number from 972-591-xxxx? AND 214-666-3834 which are both local to me but they tell me to call this number back 866-402-4043. They say that there are 2 counts of check fraud and malicious intent to defraud against my name, drivers license number, and social security number. They have been calling for 2 weeks straight, in the morning and in the evening, and insist that I call them within the next 24 hours or I'll be charged.  They say that they are filing a possible "stay of execution" with the clerk's office but doesn't that mean that they are working to prevent these so called "charges" against me? Hmmm..not sure if this adds up. I only ever use checks to pay my rent and no one from my apartment office has ever called to notify me of any issue. Thank goodness for call forwarding straight to voicemail on my phone but I wish I was lucky enough to have that feature on my work phone. How did these people even get my information??

Patti - I am getting the exact same message.  Do they say those legal terms to scare us?  It is quite scary to me...but I don't want to be scammed.  What to do?

I also recd phone call from this number today stating if i don't respond by the close of busy then they would report to my job that I use my job email address. They are request all money to be paid in full and I have a week to respond. I don't like to feel like I'm being pressure to do something when I can afford to pay my daily household bills.

I received the same message, only in addition to saying me and my job are being prosecuted, they are stating that they are a law firm.  Does anyone know if they are in fact a law firm???

I have received four of these "robo-calls" from M. Callahan and Associates in the last two weeks.  I have not borrowed any money, and I don't owe any money.    The voicemail messages are very poorly done and from reading all of the notes from other people on the Internet, it  appears this is a scam operation, pure and simple.  My advice is to ignore the calls.  At some point, if they continue, I will report them to the FTC or the California Attorney General's Office.

why is this person calling me at work.  Remove me from this list

I have been receiving calls from the number to my cellphone as well as work number.  Very anoying.  How do I handle?

My aunt actually got a message for me on her phone..saying I had a case against me For check fraud too..I don't even have a checking account! ! But a few weeks ago I tried to find a payday loan online & filled out sum info..maybe they use that info to try to scam $$..

I too received a call today 10-4-11 @ 12:59pm stating that there had been several complaints against my name and ss# and Drivers License # and I had 24 hours to call them back and make voluntary restitution or give a statement against the claims, or further action will be taken.  She said that her name was "Kathy Porter" and I could call back to 866-402-4043 at M Callahan and Associates.  I have no clue who thes people are and have turned the information over to my local sherriff's office.

i too rcvd a phone call today and call them back but ot one time did the perosn mention that they are in persue of collection but tried to see if i had a payday loan and would like to settle it if so, what is up with all this i can not find them sign up with the bbb to file a complaint.
