They say important call them at this number.  Only get a recording.  Who are they?

They are a collection agency (supposedly) called UCB.  I found another site that said when they called and entered a reference it sent their private information to another mystery number and the next thing they knew, they had a huge phone bill.  I would not call this number back, and I don't intend to either.  If it is that important, they would have a recorded message playing when I answered.  Nor, would they come up on my caller id as UNKNOWN.

Toledo, Ohio. they are very rude. They are looking for someone other than my 12yr son. But refuse to stop callig him, they say they will remove his number but keep calling I would like to report them but where?

Have gotten calls for months on my second, unlisted, home line. When I call back, message says office is closed, or phone just rings and rings. Can we complain to the phone company?

The people who work for UCB are extremely rude and uncaring. Don,t let them bully you.
 The best thing to do is find out who sent you to collection then work out a plan  for payment directly with them. Most companies (and most humans for that matter) would rather fix things congenially. They may even forgive some of your debt.
 Let them know how rudely you were treated by UCB and that working through UCB probably looses more than they gain.

I did speak to one person who seems courteous there but several are extremely rude.  They do back off when I mentioned the Fair Debt Collection Act.  Under that act you are entitled to ask them ONLY to contact you in writing. Upon hearing this the collector said I had to write a cease and desist letter.  I told her I would but she refused to give me a fax number or address.  Another one gave me 954 236 6001 .  It doesn't work, my print out says no answer.  He also told me he HAD to keep calling until he obtains my letter.  I do see an address from another commentator and will try mailing but I am sure they will tell me they never received it.  when they call on my cell the number comes up unavailable.  I tried 419 866 6227 I believe that is the office for customers of UCB.  She did give me a fax for that 419 866 5130 and confimred the Southwyck Blve address.  I will try that.  Oh, for violations of the Fair Debt Collection Act its triple damages but hard to obtain.

This is probably regarding a family member's debt (who do not even live in the same state as I do!) I refuse to call them back again - it is not my problem, and I did call back and left a voice mail to leave me alone but they still call.

Just received a call from them, I have a letter I fax when I get a call from a collection agency. I got a working fax number of 419-866-5130. No problems after that! Good Luck!

They just called and the represenative could barely speak english but their phone numbers show up on the caller I.D. as unknown name or unknown number and the represenative advises that the call is for a personal matter. It could never be that personal especially when you do not display a phone number for contact. Yes I am unemployed right now so why would I even think about communicating with them to find finances to pay a debt because that is the suggestion they will make to you. If I was employed I could handle the matter on my own. A secure business would disclose their information for the public (or their caller) to see and they will not leave voice mail messages.

When they first called and asked for my son, they were sweet and polite until I asked what UCB was. They kept saying it was a "financial institution". When I pressed them to tell me what kind, they got rude and nasty until I hung up. My son is 38 and does not live with me but somehow they got my number. If they call again, I will mention the Fair Debt Collection Act or just hang up and beat them to the punch.

Yes the number comes up private, there is a better chance of someone answering it than an 866 number showing up.  You do have to send or fax a cease letter in for the calls to stop.  They are able to get family and friends even neighbors information from the credit card app if someone was listed as a reference, online, www.411.com....and it isnt illegal for them to call other people as long as they dont say why they are calling, if they do tell someone other than the debtor personal information about the debt then they are in violation of the FDCA, but just calling is not illegal.  Ignoring the phone calls and not explaining your situation will only lead to them calling friends, co-workers, neighbors, etc....ignoring a problem wont make it go away.

I continue to get phone calls from a man named Pablo, who at best speaks broken english, and is very rude.  I have made many attempts to set up a payment plan and settle my debt, and they have all be turned down.  I faxed, mailed letters, emailed and spoke with at least 4 different people on the phone.  They are all rude, mean, and inconsiderate.  I want to settle my debt fairly and in a timely manner.  They all tell me that unless I pay the full amount, they will be taking me to court and garnishing my wages.  Good luck to anyone that has the misfortune of dealing with these lowlife's.

My advise ... you can make them stop calling you by sending in a complaint letter to your State Attorney General's office and give as much detailed information as possible! The last thing that any collection agency wants is to get too many consumer complaints because they could be forced to shut down all together!

Just mention in your complaint the name of the "collector" who has been harassing you and ALL violations that he/she has commited that violate the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.

I have read horror stories of them on several different boards now. They have also been called me. After reaserching and finding out what they are, Ive learned they over 393 complaints against them. One person noted that she attemtped to make payments and they took the check and drained her account dry. SCAM ARTIST. I myself filed for bankruptsy and all the creditor were notified. So they have no place calling me.

I had a collection agency ask me if i had the money and it was a bad time i was broke and the bill collector was mean and nasty he even said (maybe you can ask your boyfriend if he can give you the money) in a nasty tone, that sounds to me very degrading i can tell that guy must have a personal problem with women, hes lucky i asked somebody for money 80 some dollars just to get him to KEEP THE [***] AWAY FROM ME! It was one of those collection agencies from Ohio, but of course sounded a whole lot different when the puts knew the money was coming. This [***] happened five years ago in a way it helped me to realize sounding all scared on the phone by these [***] is gonna give them a way to pick on you.
