- Mel| 2 repliesThis is a phishing scam - they call saying they are from B of A and try to get you to the website and enter your credit card number. DO NOT DO THIS or call them.
- GCNot a scam. This is a legitimate BoA site. I called the # on the back of my card and spoke with the service rep about it. I am very wary of these things and always check them out before giving out info (that they should already have). BIG Kudos to BoA for nipping this in the bud. Someone fraudulently put several hundred $$ on my card several days after trying a $1 online charge to make sure that it would work. I am (now) a huge fan of credit report service and online bank statement/account monitoring. I recommend both...
For those of you who stated that you do not have a BoA card, better recheck the Who's Who in banking these days.... BoA bought out MBNA and several other companies recently. Check your statements promptly when they arrive or go online and check frequently.- Caller: BoA
- JesseThis is actually a valid BoA number. Fraud protection is a good thing and these folks are right on top of things.
- PHISHIING SCAMNo, it is NOT a legitimate site and anyone claiming it to be must be part of the scam.
Why would you take the word of an anonymous person here saying, "Go ahead! Trust me... it's legitimate." ???
Wise up folks! Banks don't call you and ask you to visit websites with foreign URLs or enter information about yourself that they should already know. - nevermind1-866-559-0025 is a phishing scam. I called Bank of America just now,
and they confirmed it is a phishing scam; the website is part of the scam.
Just wanted to let you all know. The criminals are out of the country and B of A said they cannot stop them because they are out of country.- Caller: n/a
- gone phishingI haven't had a B of A account in 8 years. Wonder where the 103 dollars came from?
- LarryBoy ColoradoThis is a LEGIT site. I was very careful when I called. All I had to enter was the last four of my social (which I did NOT do), *OR* my zipcode. They then read off to me my last three transactions, and THEY knew the date, location and amount and asked me to confirm as legitimate or not. I did not disclose anything dangerous.
- JimM-StLouisThis is legit. I did not call the number to confirm it, I called the number on the back of my credit card. After talking with Bank of America over the phone I am convinced that this number is a legit number just trying to protect you. However whenever in doubt just call the number on the back of your card.
- SandyIt is legit. I did think it was odd they left a message on my work phone number instead of my home number. I logged in to my BofA account and it provided a link to the website. All it wanted was verification of my last 3 transactions. I also called BofA and they verified it is legit. Always call the number on the back of your card if you're not sure.
- TIFFNEYCrap, they called asking to speak to my 11 year old son. Beware.
- OscarLegit site and number and it's an added value service I wish other banks would offer.
Oscar - vigot mssg on machine to call this number because of suspicious activity. Checked the number on google. Tis a fraudlent site. Never called them back.
Deleted mssg.
Always double check any phone that has 866 as an area code. - brindleThis is actually a valid BoA number. Fraud protection unit. If you want to check what the problem is - Go to BoA web site (www.BankofAmerica.com ) and log on to your account. It will tell you what the problem is. My case was Irregular Credit Card Activity. A merchant had charged my account 3 times for the same item.
- Rod| 1 replyThe call and number was legit!!! Do not ignore it. Jut call the number on the back of your card to verify.
- EllaThey called and reported a suspious acivity on my account. I called my bank and it was true, 2 charges were made from who knows who. Account is closed.
They are not a scam company. - jawThis is legit number - we actually called the number on the back of our visa card. We had purchased a flat screen tv the day before getting this call and the bank just wanted to verify we made the charge.
- JoshThis is a phishing scam. I called the number on the back of my BoA card to discuss it with them. I spoke with the BoA fraud department and gave them the 866 number. They ran it against their phone directory and confirmed that this is NOT a BoA number. Do not call and do not give them any information.
- jaybeeSeems like a phishing call. Either that, or Bank of America has the wrong number for someone who has a legitimate account. They identified the wrong person (no one by that name lives at this number). They asked me to call them because there has been fraudulent activity on my account. They used the wrong person's name and no one in this household has a Bank of America account, nor have we ever had one. I am sorry for the person they were trying to reach, if indeed that person exists. How could B of A possibly have the wrong contact number for someone who has a credit card with them?
- Caller: Bank of America
- jaybeeI am writing to clarify an earlier comment I submitted. The name on the caller ID was "cardmember services" not "Bank of America". The voice said Bank of America during the message.
- HJDI called Ban of America via the number on the back of my card (800), and there was a fraud block. There were several charges made that were not mine, and the account was closed. The number that appeared on the caller ID (866) must be valid, unless whomever acquired the card info also setup this 866 number to try to phish info. In short, I didn't call back the 866 number, but there were fraudulent charges to my account.
