i got a call for my uncle from this number claiming to be simms association. whats weird is how did they get my cell number and i dont even live in the same state as him.

I got a call from this number. I said Hello' a couple times and then got disconnected. I dialed the number to see who it was and was immediately put on hold with music playing. They didn't answer in a timely manner, so I hung up.

To Whitney (above): There's no privacy on the Internet anymore (as if there ever was...). It's easy on the Internet to find the phone numbers of family members of someone you're trying to locate, along with other personal information (such as age and address).

I've even gotten phone calls from debt collectors trying to collect from neighbors in my neighborhood! They're bold and asked me if I could leave a note on their door! This has happened 2-3 times over the last couple years.

I'm very guarded with my personal information and rarely give out my address and phone number, yet it's probably all over the place without my permission.

If it is Simms Associates, they are "accounts receivable management specialists" based in Delaware.
In other words: Debt collectors

They call leaving messages for someone else.  When told that the person wanted does not live here, they tried to get personal info from me.  My name, did I know the person, etc..?  Told them it was none of their business who I was.  They then hung up on me. They were very nasty. Plus they knew very well who I was from caller ID and they used my name at the end to tell me off.

Vicki Johnson from Sim Associates calls from the number, says it's a collection matter and call back. Upon call back I got a Melissa, who said she'd check if Vicki was available. Wasn't. Melissa wanted my complete street address to "verify it is you". I refused. I said I didn't have any outstanding debts. I've never received mail from Sim Associates so send me something by mail to verify this call is honest. She did not agree. I said this call would be reported as fraud and they are social engineers seeking information to use against me. She said, "Ok, I'll remove you from our list." Call ended. DON'T GIVE OUT INFORMATION. Social engineers attempting to obtain information to use against you for identity theft.

They do not have to send you anything in the mail until after first contact.  They contacted you so now they are required by law to send a dunning letter in the mail postmarked within 5 days of your conversation.  Have you read the thread at 800notes.com?
