I received a call from a woman who did not identify herself or the company she represents. She simply left a message for me to call her back. Too bad for her I do not return calls to people who lack the common courtesy of stating their name. Obviously, it is some kind of scam. I have never had an account with citibank in my life.

I also just received this call. I called back. And it IS valid. I have a Children's Place card - no regular Citi card. Citi handles the finances for several store cards. It was just a courtesy call that they had not received minimum payment. So it's not a scam

To everyone posting on this site saying this number is from CitiBank or Citibank debt collectors. Sorry to say you are just as bad as the scammers calling. Two words for you….GET INFORMED before posting ignorant cmmments becuase someone maybe trusting enough to trust you and end up in the clutches of these scammers.

As for people commenting and inquiring with genuine interest. this is in fact…A SCAM. They will try to get your persoanl info from you which is why you probably dont have an account with them and will call to inquire if someone has opened one in your name. Its clear as they dont say CitiBank…just Citi (3x)

I know this becuase I called the actually Citibank headquarters and assured me they have nothing to do with it. They are also doing this via email.

after reading these posts I returned the call out of curiosity and with caution.  They wanted my credit card # but when I  asked what card they had called about they weren't sure, so they asked for my phone # so they could look up my account(s).  Since they called my phone # already I gave it to them.  They  came up with  two credit cards that matched my phone number
(Goodyear and Exxon Mobil) and said they were calling because some payments were past due and they wanted to notify me.  I already knew that neither of these accounts were past due because I had just checked my on-line banking information and both had been paid - and always had been.  She had said that the calls are automated from from Citi to people with past due funds.  All the questions I put to her cycled into a circle of nonsense answers and foolishness.  Callers beware !

Called and left a message claiming to be from Citbank.  Assumed it was a scam and didn't call back.

Received a very vague message saying it was from "Citi". Didn't even mention that it was CitiBank. Did not call back even though they called consecutively for the past 3 days with the same vague message.

Although I did not call the number 866 609 8298, I believe it to be bona fide.  This is my story:  
I started getting robocalled everyday from 877 587 5727 asking me to call the above # re my Citicard. I ignored it because I do not have a Citicard.
Some of the posts claimed that they called the number and were told their Citicard was over 28 days late and some others said that Citibank processed smaller store credit cards.
I checked and found out that my Citgo card was handled by Citibank, and yes, I was over 28 days late.
My bill was due Oct 8 and I forgot all about it (oops).  I received a statement dated Oct 12 saying "bad person you are late and we are charging you an exhorbitant late fee.  You have until Nov 8 to pay the minimum due".  The robocalls started Oct 14 which falls in line with the 28 days late claim.
I made arrangements with my online banking company to pay them Nov 6 (yesterday).  
If I am correct, in about a week, the calls should stop.

I answered my work phone from this call number, and heard a robovoice say, sorry, there is nobody here to talk to you and we know your time is valuable, please call this number"....sorry WHO DOES THAT???

I called back, like the compliant person I am, she asked for my account number....I thought and then said, "No, you give me my account number".....she asked for the phone number, and I told her the number that you called was ######....she asked for my name.....again, I said no, you give me the name.  Then she lit into me about not being able to help me, and is there anything else.  I hung up....frustrated.

I called Citicard back on the number from the back of my card and she said I had no issues on my card.  I then took my work number off my profile.  Then I checked my homedepot card......that account did NOT have my work number, so......why were they calling me at work???

I called back again after reading these messages and found that they were calling on a Shell account.  I don't have one, so they took my work number off the records, and calls should stop.  We will see.    :)

The number 877-587-5727 calls 3 to 4 times a day everyday - sometimes leaving a very vague message that I need to call 866-609-8298 regarding important information on my Citi card - I do not have a citi card and after reading these messages do not plan on returning their call.

I received an email in my junk box saying that my Citi account has been compromised and that if I do not verify my account by a certain date they will close my account.  Then I received a call from this number 18666098298 saying they are Citi and that I need to call them right away.  This not the same number on my Citi card nor on my other account that is ran by Citi so I called Citi to see if they have this number as one of theirs and they do NOT!!!!!

Without knowing or asking for my name, they ask for my account number.
I say "I do not have a Citibank account."
The guy who is in Manila, Philippines then says "It might be your son's account-what is that number?"
Does that sound legit to any of you?
I neither have a son nor a citi account, yet this guy demanding an account number from me continues "Well, then, call the number on the back of your card."

Someone needs to shut this caller down.

I got a similar call and it was because my Children's Place bill was past due.

I get calls everyday from this number. I checked directly with citibank, they said it is not from the bank. Someone is trying to get informations.

2nd day in row. get call from 877 587 5726 telling me to call 8666098298.  annoying.

I have been receiving several calls every week from (877) 587-5726.  It is an automated message (female voice) saying something like:
"Sorry we could not speak to you personally...  This is about your Citi card.  Please call (866) 609-8298.  Again, this is not a sales call.  There is an issue with your Citi card and we need to speak to you immediately.  Please call us between the hours of ..."

I called the Citi customer service number printed on the back of my Citi card to find out what they wanted.  Turns out they had no idea what I was talking about and that none of my accounts had any issues.

This is obviously a SCAM.  Please be careful to whom you provide any personal information.

I received a call from a 877-587-5726 number as well. I didn't answer and the message said to call 866-609-8298 regarding my Citi card. I always pay my bills on time so I was unsure what it was about. I called back from a land line and the woman asked for my ss# and I told her I did not feel comfortable giving that out over the phone because of previous scams. She then asked me for my card number and I told her I didn't have it. She then asked for my phone # which I gave because they had already contacted me on it. She then asked me to verify the last four of my ss# which I did not release. These people are trying to get your personal info so please be careful.

Two days in a row now, I'm getting this call but I didn't answer and the message said to call 866-609-8298 regarding my Citi card.   I don't have a Citi card.  This call is a SCAM from Nigeria.

I was skeptical after the robotic calls, but I'm trying to repair my credit score so I decided after a week to return the call.  I refused to give my SS# so I gave the phone number they called on and my birthday.  It was my Children's Place Card.  I was $3 short of my minimum so they charged me a huge late fee.  They were able to verify all my info to me on that account and how much I paid last with my balances, etc.  I was very open with her that I didn't trust her, but I am pretty sure they are legit.  Yet to be sure I didn't give them my bank account number to pay the past due.  Instead I paid with a $10 rebate giftcard I happened to have.  They said they took off the fee and I'm current.  I'll post if my next statement is different, but I think it's was really them. If not, all they got was a dead end card and my bday.

Run away! It is a SCAM! This is not Citibank. I don't even have a citibank account and they call me 3 times a day every day and leave a voicemail. No legitimate company would do this, especially not a bank.

Caller said thry were from "CITI".  Wanted to speak to je about a credit card in my name.  Hah!  I have none! To be cettain my ID wasn't hijacked, I calked back, and told them I would not give my name, but since they have my number, they can make sure I have no cards.  I haven't had an accoubt at CITI in, like 30 years!
