Woman called asking for my husband & when I questioned her regarding her business, she answered but seemed annoyed.  She asked me to pay an alleged debt right now using a credit card.  I told her I would investigate to see if this was a scam.  She seemed extremely irritated at that.

This number called looking for a person named Albino. (pronounced: Al Bye No)  Was this a prankster call? Who would have a name like Albino?

I answered they hung up. Called back later. I didn't answer the phone and they didn't leave a message

No idea who this was.  They called but hung up immediately when I answered.

Another harassing call from these skip tracers.  They have been warned many times that the person they seek is not known to us, but nothing deters their relentless calling.

When I called back they said it was Stevens, Michaels, and Associates and when I confirmed I was not the person they were looking for they said they would take my number out. I didn't get far enough to see who they were trying to collect for.

kept getting automated messages from a 344-9400 # telling me to contact this stephens michaels firm and gave a file #. After 3 automated phone attempts I received an actual person claiming to call on behalf of the law firm for an hsbc credit card that i owe a balance to and need to collect in full today. Of course they would like a card # from me to pay in full and when i said no they then said are the last digits of your social so and so...I told him it was a scam and i wouldn't fall for it. He claimed it was not and he would try again. They hope you will say no my social is this. BE CAREFUL it is totally a scam!!

These people are relentless.  I get 1-2 calls a day from them with an automated message for someone I've never heard of.

Not that bad. They called me on my land line, which I only use as a fax line (which I got about 10 months ago), and I saw it pop up on my TV screen since I have digital phone service. I called them back and the woman (Jessie I think) was very nice. She said she was looking for a woman (L. Alexander) about a debt, and it was also tied to a man (S. Anderson), neither of which are me. She apologized for the inconvenience and took the number out of their system.

Stephens & Michaels Associates.  They call me once a day and sometimes leave one of those stupid automated messages, which irritates me because they use my name and say why they are calling on my answering machine.  They are a bill collector trying to collect for a hospital bill that I have which we all know is utterly outrageous in balance.  I can not afford at this time to pay. They actually are harrassing, because they too, hang up and don't always leave a message.  etc.....

Please be very cautious if you speak to these callers. The numbers are usually either scammers or credit collectors or law firms posing as credit collectors. The best thing to do is to hire a consumer lawyer if it is a credit collector. Also please research credit collectors online. One good site is Bud Hibbs.. The lawyer I had, called these people coyotes, because they prey on people and will eat you up if you let them.  They are very tenacious, hanging in there for the "kill". Please do your research.

If the call should be from a credit collector, these people usually will change from one number to another many many times. The best thing to do is :  DO NOT give them the satisfaction of answering. These people are very greedy people. The people who work for them , calling to collect, are calling you usually either need a job very bad or are crooked.

Some of you may owe a debt, some may not.  For those who might,:  Always call it an Alleged debt no matter whom you talk to  They have to prove it. Watch very carefully what you say to them on the phone. They may be recording what you say. And they can use it in court if they decide to sue you.

Sometimes they have no proof if you have a debt. Sometimes they are not the right people who may have bought your alleged debt.  You could pay the wrong company if you decide to pay the alleged debt.  Some are outright scammers.

Be really careful.  Even some of the attorneys who help people to fight against these people are crooked.
Be very careful of signing any papers that a credit collector wants you to.  Be careful of signing any papers that ANY law firm asks you to sign. Get a second and third opinion Do your research.

These people are hard to fight because they are huge banks and big law firms. They are preying on the old, poor, innocent, very young, people who are honest, just anyone they can.

We must not let them do this!

Please get a lawyer to help you if any of these credit collectors try to sue you. Or get a free lawyer if you can. There are also laws that protect you against harrassment .  There are many laws. These people are hard to catch. Many try to catch you off guard

If you answer them, keep a log of just what company is calling, the time and date they call.  You may need it later if they should decide to sue you.

If you get a summons, do not ignore it. Check at the courthouse to see if it is real.  The courthouse will want papers filed,  called an Answer.  This is very important or they will win by default. Get a lawyer to prepare these papers or research it online.  Getting it in ON TIME is the key here. Usually they only give you a few days to do this.

GOOD LUCK if you ever come across any trouble with these people. Do not feel bad if you honestly owe money and are on hard times. The economy is bad and a lot of people owe money.  If YOU are a scammer yourself then shame on you!

The number belongs to Stephens and Michaels Associates. It is a law firm that buys up very old debt (for pennies on the dollar) and then begins to harrass people to pay. They are suppose to identify themselves by FTC rules but do not. They are also not suppose to use a Robocall system but they do. It is important to report them to the FTC and to your state's attorney general office.

Yesterday I recieved a call from 1-866-679-9649 and it was a robocall and the message never did state who was calling and simply told me to wait. Then a very aggressive man picked up the phone and immediately started demanding to know if I was "xyz". I asked him who he was and what company he was with and he kept refusing to tell me which is a violation of the FTC rules. The Robocall was a violation too. The phone I was on was a cell phone and its not even in my name.

He told me he was collecting for a very old hospital bill and the debt is like 6 years old. Right at the statute of limitations. The hospital has gone out of business. I am presently unemployed and can not pay but only a fool would pay now since as you stated it restarts the clock.

The guy began threatening me and I hung up. I called back to the number and another man answered and he also immediately began to ask if I was "xyz". Somehow my number is saved in their system. As I stated its not even my phone. I asked what company he was with and he initially refused and he finally said "Stephens and Michaels Attorneys at law". They like to throw that "attorneys at law" out there because they feel it gives them legitimacy but they are just dirty lowlifes. Bottom feeders. They probably paid close to Nothing on this debt and if a person paid it they would jack up the price to be  5 or 6 times what is due. They are looking to wear people down.

No way I'm going to pay this. I asked the guy for their address so I could send a Cease and Desist letter and he refused. I went to their website and of course there is no mention of any address or fax number to get the Cease and Desist letter to them. These people are SCUM.

These debt collectors are absolutely ruthless. I tell people all the time to stay away from Facebook and be careful with Twitter and other social programming sites because these debt collectors go through those and will get your family and friend's information and start harrassing them. One man said they even started harrassing his neighbors.

i dont know who they are. i pretended not to be me and they said i had left my number as a way to be contacted by then... why would i leave my number for a bill colecting law office?

They claim to represent a hospital and are seeking money due.  I have never been to this hospital and  I can therefore only assume it is a scam.  They tried to verify personal information and became rather nasty when I refused to cooperate.   Blocked the number immediately.
