866-728-6890

Got a call in August 2009 from a Mrs. Jack from "Canada Revenue Agency" saying that whoever does the payroll for our company needs to call in. She left a number 866-728-6890 and a 13 digit "reference number".

I called the REAL 1-800 number for CRA, they verified who I was, and they looked up our company payroll file using our correct account number, and found NO NOTES re our account.

So Mrs. Jack is a scam. If you call that 1-866 number you will get a recording saying it's CRA Collections in Belleville Ontario, so someone is using the CRA recording on their machine, and probably trying to get you to give up your personal identity info.

Scary stuff.

Lesson: Never call numbers left on your machine or given to you by callers. Use the official numbers published. I won't even list it here - search for the government sites on Google and use their contact us numbers only.
