    866-831-8125 is Verizon and they don't use the National uoNotCall database. If you're a customer or have been they have (supposedly) carte blanche to call you. They are supposed to have an internal DoNotCall database, but I'm not sure if they really use it. Complained over a month ago and was put on the list (not sure which list). Didn't get any calls for about a month. Now they're starting again. Going to have to complain to my son-in-law who works of Verizon to get more info about their policies.

    Yep, that call is from Verizon Wireless.

    It takes the representative about a minute to come on line, after you answer.  That is why sometimes it seems like no one answers (responds to) your "hello".

    Of course, Verizon Wireless charges you "minutes" for their own call.

    I have so many legitimate "Global" conference call numbers that I use as a daily course of business that when my cell phone rings with an 866 prefix, I am reflexively thinking an AT&T operator is trying to reach me re a conference call I should be in, or someone is trying to get in and the operator is asking me (the host) if it is OK to allow the billing on, say, the international version of my account.

    Boy am I pi**ed when I put the conference call on hold, pick up my ringing cell phone, answer it, wait, listen, say hello 2 or 3 times like an idiot only to eventually hang up a (apparently) dead line. Now that I know it is my own cell carrier trying to hawk me down for some freakin' incentive program, I am going to change carriers!!!

    Almost as bad as that law firm that leaves a nasty message that you MUST call them within 24 hours for, "AN IMPORTANT BUSINESS MATTER" but you can't because they 'gave' their firm's number (and name) out before you start hearing or recording the IMPORTANT MESSAGE.

    Hey, anyone smart enough to get them to call each other and rack up charges to both of them?

    Got call from 866-831-8125. the lady who called knew all details about my cell phone. She offered upgrades etc. After hanging I called Verizon to verify who this person was and they confirmed that this person was valid Verizon-third-party vendor. So it is not a hoax number.
