    This is not a "scam" and charities soliciting donations are not telemarketers - which is why legitimate charities are EXEMPT from national and state Do Not Call registries.  The USNVA is a legit organization, rasing money to support the good work they do.  They are not a phony charity seeking to rip you off. Even the Veterans Administration website contains a link to the USNVA homepage.  (And the CEO of the group is a guy named Nimitz, which might ring a bell with some of you.)  

    If you would like your number removed from their calling list, you can probably manage that by sending an e-mail to usn@navyvets.org.  If that doesn't work, try e-mailing "nimitz" at the same domain.  I'll bet that gets results.

    called at 9pm on Sunday night.  Said "hello David" (my husband)  When I asked who's calling he kept asking who I was.  Finally said his name was Robert, but would not say what he was calling about, just kept asking me for my name!  So I hung up.

    Picked up the phone and they had my name already.  I just told them I was not interested.  I never give my credit card out on the phone to anyone.

    I see notes here saying U.S. Navy Veterans.  I say bulls---.  If it was legitimate they would respond when I answered the phone instead of hanging up when I say "hello".  Besides, Jerks calling a do not call number, AND around suppertime, on a Sunday?  Can't be legit as far as I'm concerned.

    Just got a call from this number--brief background music, then a hang-up. Thanks to everyone who left comments here, now I know how to deal with this organization should they call my number again!

    Just got a call as well - asked for Peggy (common wrong number I get), but was happy to talk to me as well. I don't know if this is a scam or not since he specifically said they were not taking donations over the phone, just wanted a pledge. I can understand why they don't want to mail that out to someone who's not serious out giving (postage costs, etc...), but I still didn't feel comfortable giving them my address. One suspicious thing is that I asked if they have a website I could visit and he couldn't give me a straight answer. Maybe he just wasn't well trained, but either way, I said "have a good night" and hung up.

    Same scenario as previously stated by others........however, when I asked what percentage of collections actually went to sending care packages he said his "supervisor" would be happy to tell me that.  He then started yelling for someone who never came to the phone & I just hung up.  The background noise sounded like a boiler room operation.
