i got a call from this number, Terry Wilson needs to hear from me or my attorney by close of buisness today.  It is a scam, just like the rest of them i have received before.  I was getting calls from people with really thick Asian accents with the same threats and messages.  Now it is someone who can speak English, but it is the same thing.

I just got the call from an old employer that had a message from 866-964-8194 ext. 720 with threats that I need to call or have my attorney call by 4 pm today, and that it is a very urgent and serious matter. The embarrassing part is I bought this company from my old employer 2 years ago and am still making payments. Now he is worried that I am having financial difficulties.

I just received the second message from Mr "Washington" for my wife's ex-husband. The problem is, the ex has NEVER even HAD our phone number. He has used our number for all his stupid scams. So when the collection agencies and courthouses try to get ahold of him, they call us. We don't know where that loser even is.
Anyway, I returned this call and told them that, but they must not believe me.

    Not Important
I received a call from 1 866-964-8194, and waited for them to leave a message.  Like the rest of you, The message was the same...have attorney call, blah, blah, blah.  I called back and spoke to a Ms. Diane Lambert, who explained the whole situation to me.  I did infact owe the debt she was callin about, as I just pulled my Credit Report.  She was very easy to work with, and reduced all the fees off of what I owed.  Instead of having to pay the $565 showing on my reportm I paid $350, got a confirmation letter stating this debt was paid in full, and a status update on my Credit report showing a positive mark rather than negative on my statement.  If you want to clean up your credit, or telecheck or checksystems reports, call these and any other creditors back.  Make payment arrangements, or try and make a "deal".  Everyone in this economy is struggling, so these companies are willing to take pennies on the dollar of what you actually owe.

    Really Not Important
To the above, hahahaha, you are the collector trying to make yourself look better. Do me a favor and send something in the mail and quit lying to me on the phone. Get your story straight as to which law firm you are. Are you Elizabeth Whitehurst, Ashley Banks, etc. Seriously can I stick with one person. If you can, would you please take a grammar class. I have never seen such a stupid of way of talking. Use proper English please. You did go to school right? By the way, I reported you to every agency I could think of. Bye Bye

    Front Desk
I received a call from this number and spoke to Diane Lambert with OFS.  She was trying to reach one of the employees.  I told her that she would need to contact the person either through mail or another listed phone number.  She then hung up on me.  Since I had already got her phone number, I called her back and asked for her fax number.  She hung up on me again.  There is a Fair Act Collection Practices Act.  Just fax the info to them and have them not send any more calls.  I had to call back 4 times just to get a fax number.

SUMMARY OF THE FAIR DEBT COLLECTION PRACTICES ACT

The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act prohibits debt collectors and collection attorneys from using undue harassment and other unethical practices when collection debt.

    What debts are covered?
Personal, family, and household debts are covered under the Act. This includes money owed for the purchase of an automobile, for medical care, or for credit cards.

How may a debt collector contact you?
A collector may contact you in person, by mail, telephone, or fax.  However, a debt collector may not contact you at unreasonable times or places, such as before 8 a.m. or after 9 p.m., unless you agree. A debt collector also may not contact you at work if the collector knows that your employer disapproves.

Can you stop a debt collector from contacting you?
You can stop a collector from contacting you by writing a letter to the collection agency telling them to stop. Once the agency receives your letter, they may not contact you again except to say there will be no further contact.

May a debt collector contact anyone else about your debt?
If you have an attorney, the debt collector may not contact anyone other than your attorney. If you do not have an attorney, a collector may contact other people, but only to find out where you live and work. Collectors are prohibited from contacting such permissible third parties more than once. In most cases, the collector may not tell anyone other than you and your attorney that you owe money.

What must the debt collector tell you about the debt?
Within five days after you are first contacted, the collector must send you a written notice telling you the amount of money you owe; the name of the creditor to whom you owe the money; and what action to take if you believe you do not owe the money.

May a debt collector continue to contact you if you believe you do not owe money?
A collector may not contact you if, within 30 days after you are first contacted, you send the collection agency a letter stating you do not owe money. However, a collector can renew collection activities if you are sent proof of the debt, such as a copy of a bill for the amount owed.

What types of debt collection practices are prohibited under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act?

--Use of threats of violence or harm against the person, property, or reputation

--Publishing a list of consumers who refuse to pay their debts or advertise your debt (except to a credit bureau) or give false information about you to anyone

--Repeatedly using the telephone to annoy someone or telephone people without identifying themselves

--Falsely implying that they are attorneys or government representatives or misrepresent the involvement of an attorney in collecting a debt

--Falsely implying that you have committed a crime and will be arrested if you do not pay your debt

--Giving a false name when they contact you or falsely represent that they operate or work for a credit bureau

--Misrepresenting the amount of your debt or claim they will seize, garnish, attach, or sell your property or wages, unless the collection agency or creditor intends to do so, and it is legal to do so

--Indicating that papers being sent to you are legal forms when they are not or indicate that papers being sent to you are not legal forms when they are or send you anything that looks like an official document from a court or government agency when it is not

--Claiming that actions, such as a lawsuit, will be taken against you, which legally may not be taken, or which they do not intend to take.

--Collecting any amount greater than your debt, unless allowed by law

    --Using obscene or profane language

    --Depositing a post-dated check prematurely

--Taking or threatening to take your property unless this can be done legally

--Making you accept collect calls or contacting you by postcard

--Calling your employer, neighbors, friends and relatives and revealing your delinquency to them [A delinquency can be revealed to a co-signor.]

Got a call telling me that i was in default of my payday loan in 2005.  LOL  yeah right and who are you to call me 4 years later claiming you have the IP address in which I applied and my company is going to be investigated.  OMG what will they think of next.  If anyone has an expereince with collection calls they do not occur this way and we all are aaware of who we owe.  Please do not become a victim to this scam..............use your voice and tell them that your lawyer will be contacting them.

Received a call from a "Richard Steel" from 866-964-8194 x723 with a case number and he named a near by county to were I live and said the case was out of there. What was interesting is that I received 15 "Unknown" calls when I was away from my phone over a 2 hour period. When I picked up the next call it was a hang up and 5 seconds later 866-964-8194 was the next call I let it go straight to voice mail. (btw..I am lucky to get 15 calls in a week) Thanks for the above message before mine... I will be contacting them.
