Caller asked for former employee who left more than 5 years ago. Caller told me the number/employment had been marked valid just today. Oops. Better luck next time.

At 8:45am, 20-Jul-2011 got call from 877-229-9261; caller ID: 'TOLL FREE'. Female computer voice on message went past the 1 minute limit and spoke 'not to listen if you are NOT [name]' and of 'Van Rue debt collection company'. These vultures are attempting to collect on a bad debt from some criminal who has stolen my personal identification. Police reports are piling up against them every time they call.

they tried call here but I don't answer the phone if I don't know them and they did leave the message and they will keep call here everyday till pay tthe money to them that which one is scam . I don't trust them and I don't know how they got our number..

I have been getting calls from this number for at least 4 years on my cell phone. And it is never a recording. Its usaully a very rude man.  They are looking for a Melvin and Ruby (never do catch the last name). When I tell them they have the wrong number THEY tell ME I'm a relative of Melvin and Ruby and that I'm covering for them. They refuse to beleive me when I tell them they have the wrong number.  I've called my cell phone company and they have offered to change my number for free but I have had this number for 8 years and do not want to have to notifiy everyone I know my new number. I've just started to ignore the call when I see the number on my cell phone.  Got a call this morning I ignored it so the idiot left me a voice message.  He breathed heavy into the phone for about a minute! What a fool! Is there any way to get these calls to stop.  I have asked them to stop calling and they don't.  Who do I report them to? The FCC?

Contact an attorney who specializes in consumer protection.  Keep some documentation of the phone calls.  

This sounds like a violation of the FDCPA.  It should be worth your time as the FDCPA provides for statutory damages (you will get paid) and force the collection company to pay your attorney fees.  I would find an attorney who doesn't require a retainer.   Feel free to shop around.

This is a debt collector, they just started calling me and when i spoke to someone they informed me that I owe a debt from 2004!! I asked for written proof and verification of this debt. Needless to say I havent heard anything more from this collector.

They called and had my address, SSN and wanted to verify that I was the person because someone was wanting to setup a credit account with this information. I told them I don't discuss that information over the phone and no I won't verify anything. Came on my mothers phone number I don't use... it is her house. I have a cell phone.

Harassing call refused to identify herself threatened to continue calling; said she had all my personal info on her screen if I didn't want give her my info I should confirm the info she had; rude hung up on me after I refused to say anything until she explained why she called and who she was calling on behalf of-

Thank you all, I could not decipher their name. They too called me at my family home not my personal number. They were so rude it was daunting.

This company called me to say they are a debt collection and will record conversation. I have NO outstanding Debts/Collections anymore!   Who is this?
Did receive a notice from a BOGUS At&T in the mail and turned it over to AT&T a month ago!

received a call from 877-229-9261 looking for a Floyd Newman.  The company is Van Ru credit corporation.  Informed them they had the wrong #.  Rep stated he would update the records.

Two calls already today from this company, they call every day.  A debt collector looking for someone that does not live at this address.
