- Lin WoodThis number is a collection agency. They have been calling my mother's home (who's number they somehow tarcked down) and ask for my brohter who the whole family is estranged from. He is 37 yrs old at that. I have explained this to them and yet whenever I am at my mom house these [***] call for my incompetent/estranged brother.
The number they called from today was "1-877-236-1115". I ask for the companies name. They said "Allied Interstate".
My favorite part is that they called today, 9/11 at 8:40am. Which for those of you do not know is our national moment of silence marking the first plane attack.- Caller: Allied Interstate

- TK| 2 repliesIt is Allied Interstate. I called them back from another phone using *67 before entering my phone #. They called on 5/2/09 and today 5/19/09 but did not leave a message. I am going to call block their number using Smart Limits, a service for AT&T wireless customers. Costs $4.99/ mo. blocks up to 15 phone numbers. Or, try your phone service company. Hopefully, they'll have a call block feature (at an extra monthly charge, of course-lol). Good luck!

- JohnnyThey called about 15 minutes ago. The guy identified himself as Eric. Supposedly they had a "personal affair" to discuss with me and asked me my final 4 social security numbers before they could proceed. Of course I hung up on them.
- ChrisI am weary of these folks contacting me regarding an ex-husband. They have called several times. I would love to be involved in a class action suit.

- Eddie G********This Allied is an unscrupulous company deserving of a class action lawsuit. I have emailed attorney Scott Owens in Florida to gauge his interest in filing a suit against Allied for violating the federal Telephone Consumer Protection Act.
If you are interested, contact him and together we can all generate enough leverage to sue Allied and receive monetary awards based on the suit.
If the companies don't play by the rules, the law says they can be forced to pay the consumer $500 in damages per call or $1,500 per call for "knowing or willful" violations.

- Ken replies to barbara| 1 replyThis is ALLIED INTERSTATE - They are a 3rd. party debt collection agency that has purchased your DEBT PAPER as a 3rd. party from either JP MORGAN CHASE, BANK of AMERICA, HSBC, CITI CARDS, CITIBANK or CARIBBEAN CRUISE LINES or last but not least - WALMART / DISCOVER.
I state 3rd party for this reason: I was a DEBT COLLECTIONS MANAGER for a 3rd. party COLLECTION AGENCY for over 10 years. THE RULES CHANGE FOR THEM IF THEY NOW OWN THE DEBT.
They are STRICTLY prohibited by LAW to abuse, harrass, or to break any FDCPA LAW in trying to locate you, collect a debt or give another party your DEBT INFORMATION. They now have to by law, STATE they are leaving a message for the purpose of collecting a debt. THEY CAN LEGALLY STATE THAT ON YOUR VOICE MAIL or ANSWERING MACHINE.
TIP: PUT ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING IN WRITING TO THE DEBT COLLECTION ENTITY AND MAKE COPIES FOR YOUR RECORDS.
3rd. party means that the original DEBT HAS BEEN SOLD TO ANOTHER ENTITY - and probably in the "NORM" basket price, which is around .10 CENTS ON THE DOLLAR.
SO, If you owed $10,000 to, let's say - CITI CARDS, they may have sold that debt for around $1,000.00. To a 3rd. party agency.
They can legally SUE YOU IF THE DEBT IS OVER $1,000.00 - Typically, they will not if it is lower than $1,000.00.
They check your credit (As they now have the right to) and if you have all bad tradelines / or bad credit across the board - the odds are, they will not touch it for suit under $1,000.00.
They can also report on your credit bureau for up to 7 years from theh time you were CHARGED OFF!
NOT THE DATE of LAST PAYMENT!
They can report aloing with the original CREDITOR and if you file Bankruptcy, you can be discharged of all debts - as ruled by the FEDERAL BANKRUPTCY Guidelines however, the Creditor (CITI) may show BANKRUPTCY if you included it but "ALLIED INTERSTATE" may very well stick and stay there.
You will have to file a DISPUTE with The credit Bureaus in order to make them go away.
THEY JUST WASTED THEIR 10% PAPER THEY BOUGHT FROM CITI - LOL.

Hope this helps everyone as it is rich in knowledge from the insider! - Ken replies to barbaraOne last thing,
Most people think it is 7 years from the date of CHARGE OFF that a collection agency can report against your credit or persue a court induced remedy!
It is typically however, THE LAW GOES OFF THE DATE OF LAST PAYMENT OR THE DATE OF CHARGE OFF!
So, if you are in DEBT and it has been charged off - PLEASE DO NOT "ARRANGE A PAYMENT WITH THE COLLECTION AGENCY OR 3RD. PARTY TO MAKE PAYMENTS ON THE BILL".
ONLY if you intend to absolutely pay the bill on that schedule.
If you are charged off (which is typically 4 months) You debt will most likely be sold - Don't make arrangements with the collection agency or 3rd party unless you KNOW YOU CAN DO IT!
This mistake can take the first 4months away from you if you screw up! And now, the clock starts all over - Imagine being in collection with CITI for, Let's say 2 years...
Now they sell your paper to a 3rd. party - And then you arrange a nice payment off a SETTLEMENT they offer you, and now you miss that payment! Guess what, the LEGAL TIME CLOCK STARTS OVER! (7 YEARS MORE, THEY CAN REPORT AGAINST YOUR CREDIT OR PERSUE LEGAL ACTIONS).
Not that all stated...
Have a great year!
TIP OF THE DAY - NEVER TALK TO A COLLECTOR AND NEVER MAKE A DEAL. PERIOD!
If you want a Discount on your DEBT, Talk to them - but GET A SETTLEMENT LETTER FIRST - BEFORE YOU MAKE THAT PAYMENT FOR LESS THAN WHAT IS OWED.
GET IT IN WRITING! - Not CatherineI would get calls as early as 5:30am. I finally called back and got a horribly rude woman; she answered the phone with "Hello". This doesn't sound professional at all. I told her to remove my number and if they ever called me again at 5:30am I would not only file a police report for calling so early, I would file reports for harassment since they call, hang up, and call back 5 times in 2 minutes. She told me to to threaten her. I told her it was not a threat and told her to remove me. She asked if I was Catherine and I informed her I was not. She asked me for my name. I told her my first name. She asked me my last name, I told her it didn't matter becuase I'm not the person she is calling for and she has no business calling my house any longer. As I didn't call from my home phone (the one they keep calling) she called me back THREE more times to my cell phone asking me what my number was to remove it. Yes, this sounds legit.... NOT. I haven't heard from them since Jan 2.
