I receive a call about once a week in which an automated message is left by a woman's voice. It says something like "This is not a sales call, please call 877-254-0943..." and gives hours to call. I'm getting pretty damn sick and tired of this happening on a weekly basis for months now. I always ignore the call and do not pick up, but a message is always left, cluttering up my voice mailbox. I do not want this number calling my phone once a week. I would like it never to happen again. It's a form of harassment.

Got the same strange call today, womans voice asking to call back 877-254-0943. Number originally shows as local buffalo number 7168176409. Was a little suspicious so I called back the 800 number and asked why they called me? They responded in a telemarketing fashion looking for information. Asked for name to be removed from list (which they said would be done, well see). looked up info: company numbers belongs to a company called marketel. company info can be found here: http://www.telephonyworld.com/buyers-guides/company/markettel/

Hi, I have been getting the same obnoxious calls on and off for over 2 years.  The automated message I get says it is urgent that I call them back and identifies the caller only as Mercantile.  I tried calling them and telling them to leave me alone.  That worked for about a year.  Just got another call today and called them back to tell them to stop calling me and guess what?  They have no record that I ever told them that before.

also called back the 877-254-0943. They wanted my number and I asked them who they were. I wouldn't give them my number. I asked again who they were and they said they were a confidential blah, blah, blah. I think that they may just be looking for working numbers and then make a sales pitch. If somebody really wants to contact ME, then let them send a letter . . I don't think they really know who they are calling. I told them to look at their "screen" and tell me who I was (wouldn't give them a number) but she said "what screen".

The automated message used to say it was from a place called Merchantile...the same number & name appear on my caller ID...716-817-6409 MAB but the automated message now say's it's from Tammy Bell...Medical collection's asking the head of household return the call. A friend of mine called it for [***]'s & giggle's & got a woman who said  she would transfer her to Tammy...got her voicemail...she still hasn't gotten a call back from her & she probably won't...GOOD...this is getting very tiring & old. There has got to be a way to track who has purchased this 877 number.

I was told the 716-817-6049 number is an automated dialer.Well I decided to make the call back to them for [***]'s & giggles...I got a real person...I made sure I *67 first....they answered Mechantile...the 1st call..I asked what it was & who is Tammy Bell & she wanted to know my phone number 1st..I refused she then got beligerent & said "Well then we will just keep calling you"..I had 2 words for her & hung up. The 2nd time a man said "Merchantile"..he then said they were a business that provides private & confidential information to business'...asked for my number I refused again..he got nasty & I gave him the same 2 word's I gave the other lady. Since I was kinda having fun doing this I called 2 other times & they were both adamant on me giving them my number. The last person I asked if they were medical collection & she said yes we do that also. If this was a legit collection agency they would answer the phone by the name of the agency...I know for a fact I owe nothing medical..let alone anything in collections..I figure I might as well have some fun & just call them a few times....It really helps release the stress they cause...lol...

Well we FINALLY found out what they were calling about....They were actually looking for my husband's employer & another person that worked there that was in charge of filing the accident's & worker's comp paperwork. Apparently the company's insurance company owe's some money for medical bill's regarding my husbands injury back in '05. They weren't looking for us to pay the bill's nor does it affect our credit...we have an attorney making sure of this...just looking for the appropriate person at the company that they need to contact...they have tried to contact the person in charge of this but he has recently retired & the new guy obviously isn't calling them back. So we were more than happy to give them the information they need to contact the company..we are sick of the call's. He also plans on taking the phone number to the person in charge & telling him he has to straighten this out or they will be contacted by our lawyer. e asled to be taken off their "do not call" list & add the companies number...they actually were very compliant & polite about it..so we will see...

I keep getting calls asking me to call Tommy Bell,  I never returned any of the calls, now today I get one from a Susan James.  It gives the phione number twice and a  name and hours to call, even if you answer the phone, it tells you to call, tere is never anyone on the line it's always a recorded message.  I am on a Do Not Call list, but I still get calls from this number.  If someone wnts to talk to me they should be on the line, because I will never call them back without k nowing why.

I get this call every morning at 8:30, I finally called back and they asked for me lol I said she lives in miami florida now and have no way of contactin her, and had them remove me. All you have to do is ask them to take you off the list, and if they call back talk to a lawyer.

Have been getting calls from Mercantile to call them back since I moved into my home 4 years ago.  Forget it.  Not.  Then the other day I get a recorded message to call Susan James at the same phone number 877-254-0943.  I finally called.  They asked for someone I don't know and I told them so, and I really don't.  I have had this number for probably 15 years so not sure what the deal is.  I appreciate the information above.  Now I know this Susan James is from Mercantile and I'll keep ignoring the messages if I continue to get them.  Delete!

I get a call from "Susan James" at least twice a week.  I finally called them back and got a recorded message asking me for my phone number.  This is obviously not a real "medical collection" agency.  Ignore it.  I'm on the "do not call" list also, which unfortunately doesn't necessarily stop all the calls.  But it helps!

Same here.  It sounds like it's official however, my caller ID had it coming from a local area code (716-817-6409)even though the message listed is as 877-254-0943.  I'm on the no call list and I've never had more calls come in.
I will not call, it's probably a reverse charge calling number.

I'm receiving calls from this number twice a week, the woman on the recording indicates to call "the office of Susan James" and that's it.  But, they are Mercantile, the ones who were asking me to pay some medical bills which were paid by me health insurance provider.

Been gettin calls from this place, sometimes I pick up and sometimes I ignore, but I always hear the same womans voice telling me to call the office of susan james back between their office hours st 877-254-0943. When I called the number back, I had to listen to another recording saying something about accessing the information left behind through a text message. It included that regular text message fees would apply. This sounds way too fishy for me... never will I pick this call up again, no matter how crazy the random rings drive me.

Oh, that was fun.  I just got another call from these yutzes this afternoon.  Yes, it's Mercantile, running yet another scam.  

The message said to call the offices of Susan James.  I decided to call back via skype instead of my home phone.  When I first called, I got a message saying "leave your phone number can we'll call you back".  Yeah right.  So I called back again, just to see if they'd have a human pick up.  And they did!  

It was Steve, and when I said I got a call from Susan James he said, "Can I please have your phone number so I can look up the account?"  I told him I was suspicious about scams so I don't give my phone number out.  He said it was definitely not a scam, and he couldn't look up the account without the phone number.  Then I asked him what the company was.  He said they deal in private matters and he couldn't tell me.  I laughed at him.  

I could tell he was pretty agitated at this point, but I wanted to see how long he would talk to me.  I asked him why they couldn't just have a human do the calls in the first place so people wouldn't have to call back and give them their phone number.  He was incredulous  "We make thousands of calls an hour, we can't possibly do that".  Again, I asked if he could just tell me what company he was from.  He refused, saying I could write them a letter.  Then he realized that he'd already said he wouldn't identify his company, so he followed it up with "Write your congressman about the changing the privacy laws, we can't tell you anything".  I laughed again.  He expected me to believe this?  Man, was he off his game.  I threw him a bone "You're pretty good at this, but do you really think there are that manny gullible people out there?"  

I could just see him getting red in the face.  It warmed my heart.  

But what finally caused Steve to hang up on me was when I asked him seriously, "Why are you in this line of work?".  

His reponse: "Why are you dumb?" <CLICK>.

I told my wife about the whole thing and she thought it was pretty funny and wanted to get in on the action.  So she called from her cell phone.  She got a different guy and gave them a bogus number.  She didn't get as far as I did in getting the guy worked up, but she did find get him to admit he was from Mercantile.

My advice?  Have fun, but don't give them any personally identifiable info.

oh man, i just got a call from 877-254-0943, i thought the number seemed familar, well when 716-817-6409 calls me they give me the other number.
i'm seriously annoyied with this.

I was listening to my voicemail while i was surfing the internet and decided to google 877-254-0923 and lo and behold, i find you guys. Very funny telemarketing scheme I must say since it's on the net. I never called them back but yes, I do get it about once a month too. It's quite annoying to have to listen to it and then delete it. It's a waste of my 4 seconds every month. I want my 4 seconds back.
