- CatI had a message from this company, but didn't speak directly with them. The number they left for call back was 1-877-268-9286 XT222 to reach Lisa Waters (no company name given). Thankfully when we passed on the info to the person they were trying to reach, we were advised of this scam info, so we never bothered to call them back. Hope someone can shut them down
- hornetIt's from a collection agency called Tri Financial
- beeWe had a message left saying that an affidavit of fraud had been drawn and notarized in someone else's name and that we should contact Lisa Jones at 877-268-9286 x 235. Funny thing is that the person whose name the fraud had been drawn and notarized died probably 9 or 10 years ago. I don't think we will be calling them back.
- TheKingOfStingI received a similar call today stating that an affidavit of fraud had been filed against my wife and I with the county I live in. I called the number and it is in fact the company Tri Financial.
They are claiming I owe $2600 for a bank account I opened back in 2000 and then closed in 2004 with a negative balance. It is true I had an account with this bank that I rarely and eventually stopped using it all together and just forgot about it. It's entirely possible that the account went negative before the bank closed it, after I stopped putting money and the bank kept charging me fees. We're talking maybe $100 or so negative.
I asked the Tri Financial guy how an account that could have been, at most, $200 negative grow to $2600. He said that the bank had been charging $35/day to the account since 2004. Guess his calculator doesn't work very good because if the bank were charging my old account $35/day for the past 4 years, I'd owe $38,000 not $2,600.
Bottom line is these guys are basically scam artists and use legal scare tactics to try to get money out of you. Ignore them.
Do a search on Google for "Tri-Financial" and Fraud. You'll get at least a page full of people posting to forums and complaint boards, just like this one, about Tri-Financial.- Caller: Tri Financial

- JI just spoke with them and asked that they provide proof of the debt. I do owe the debt, but I want to make sure that this company is truly the real owner of it now, or just a scam artist who downloaded my credit report and is trying to get $$ out of me.
I asked the woman to provide it, and she said that I needed to ask for that within the first 30 days of it reaching their agency. It is now supposedly 90 days with them. Is this correct?
I have no problem working something out if it is the right company.- Caller: Tri-Financial
- JonThey called my brother saying I wasn't responding to an "affidavit" for some "civil case", which of course is complete BS. They are a collection agency, plain and simple, and are calling trying to scare individuals into calling in and speaking with them, and/or hoping that by getting family members involved (and annoyed), they'll have better luck in their collection efforts.

- KMy 16 year old son was visiting his grandma (my ex mother-in-law) and someone named Jerald at ext. 346 called and left a message on her answering machine. They said an "affidavit of fraud" had been filed in their office. My ex mother-in law called them back and spoke to a Ms. Lee @ ext. 371, they told her I had 24 hours to call them back before they took me to court and that was all they "were allowed to tell her."
I have been separated from my ex-husband for over 6 years. I re-married a couple years ago and now have a different last name. I did quit paying on a couple credit cards about 6 years ago so I guess that's what they are calling about. I won't be returning their call.- Caller: Tri Financial
- Marianne ElamWe kept getting calls from this number. When questioned, the person said something about fraud and a social security number. The messages left on our machine sounded intimidating but no identifying information was given. My husband found this site on the internet so we will continue to ignore these calls.

- CAI don't have the code section in front of me but just do a simple search for the fair debt collection / reporting act and you will find the section in the United States Code that outlines what are ILLEGAL collection practices. Telling someone there is a civil case against them and these scare tactics violate the code and are therefore illegal.
- CAReceived a message saying the affidavit of fraud has been submitted to the Sacramento Count and that I will be facing a jail sentence if I do not call them right away.
- OREGONThe person up above is right I looked up the Fair Debt Collection Reporting Act and the lady (Wendy x224) that called me violated 6 laws in section 807! THey threatened me and said all sorts of lies about what they do and who the company was while I was trying to get my kids out of the car at the park! I don't even owe any money! I am going to call her back tomorrow like I said I would and get her to repeat everything she said yesterday, only I am going to record the conversation then report them to the federal trade commission. See how they like them apples!

- LisaI know I owe the debt they are calling about, but using fowl language and threats is no way to get someone to pay a debt. What I would like to know is this: has anyone actually been served with legal documents from this company?

- ASame person called twice in a row. He left a message both times. First time he said he was with TRI Law Offices and implied an affidavit had been sworn out AGAINST the person he was trying to reach. Second time he called he said he was from (our local county) District Court, warrant division, calling about a warrant that the person he was trying to reach had supposedly FILED. Now which is it? Obviously neither. Surely this is not legal.
- TThe first called that I received was on September 23, 2008. I had never heard of this company. Mr. Kornacky left a message claiming that he was a legal assistant of T&R Associates and that he was calling about a pending case against me for fraud and neglience in my county. He then turned around and left the same message with a co-worker that a case was pending against me. I have written letters to the appropriate Office of Attorney Generals. He has called again, the same person, now he is an investigator with the law offices of TRI & Associates. I will keep sending correspondence to the appropriate Office of Attorney Generals. I have never been told what the supposedly debt is, and who it is owed to.

- willGot a call from these guys all from the above numbers listed (the 714 area code and the 9286). Can clearly hear they were calling from a call center. The guy I was talking to was completely rude for someone wanting to collect a debt. The alleged acct was from 02. I asked to send verification via mail. They said no and I had to give a promissary note during that phone call. I did not and they threated with civil litigation, garnishment and suspension of drivers license if I didn't act right then and there. Just from reading on these guys (TRI FINANCIAL), it seems to be a scare tactic. Even if the debt was valid and charged off, that means the acct was paid ini full via an insurance policy. These bottom feeders buy the the original acct. pennies on the dollar in hopes of recovering some of the already charged off funds. Of course they stand to make quite a bit of money from this so this is part of the racket.
