I received a call today from 877-282-1378  with security code. 90108251 claiming Blue Cross/Blue Shield.I want to find out more about this number or whether or not I should respond.

I got this same call from (877-495-0623) toll free number. It left a msg on the phone to call back at "877-282-1378" with some security code.
Even if it was legit, I would not call back as insurance matters are all taken care of by the insurance agent.
I just would say this as another scam.

Don't return the call! Got a call from a different number,  they left a message claiming to be Blue Cross Blue Shield and to call this number and "security code" to use. Contacted BCBS directly and they said it wasn't them, and didn't know why or who the call came from.

Got the same thing today. 877-282-1378 w/ a security code. Said they were with BCBS, didn't call back.

I got the same call on Friday (7/22) and today (7/26) around 10:45AM CST.  I decided to call back BCBS, using the number on the back of my insurance card.  I spoke with an agent, Michelle, who informed me that it was INDEED BCBS.  It’s an automated service that BCBS is using to ask their customers their preferred way of communication (ex. Mail, Call, E-mail, etc).  If anyone is still unclear, please call BCBS using the number on the back of your insurance card.  This should clear up any superstition.

Same here, but it turned out BCBS didn't know who they were.   BCBS said it's not a company they do business with, as they wouldn't have them call from phone numbers and not leave more detailed info.   Interesting you got a different answer than everyone else.  Irregardless, I don't return calls from numbers not listed in my insurance company paperwork.  Too many pfishing scams going on out there.

Received a call from 877-495-0623 stating it was BCBS with a digitized spelling of my name since it unpronounceable by a robocall. It asked me to call 877-282-1378 an punch in the 8 digit code. I called the actual BCBS of Illinois customer service number and 80 voice prompts later decided to hang up, so I only assume the call to be a scam.

I then called 800-543-0867 which is the BCBS Health Care Fraud Hotline. They were not interested. Their idea of fraud is being bilked out of THEIR money by fraudulent claims. Having their members' private, personal information breached, well, snooze. I was able to save the voice mail to a WAV file and offered to send it, but they weren't interested. I did get a case number.

Maybe if more people report these calls as fraud to BCBS maybe they'll stop

Just talked to the 800-541-2467 BCBS number you find on your statements and the 877-282-1378 number and code are ligament but feel free to look it up (on the back of your membership card) and call them yourself (better that you all are being safe, smart!)
I was told it was contact information such as mailings, access to their web base help, and so on: kind of a survey, if I understood it correctly.  I was also told if you want to ignore them that they will stop after a time and there is no pressure to participate.
It's best to be very careful, that's why I check with customer service first!

PS Customer Service was very nice and understanding.

I wonder if the very people who are perpetuating these scams post on these message boards because somehow BCBS of Texas called from the same number.  Hmmm.  Now how can BCBS of IL and BCBS of TX be using the same number.  Also if you look at the dates in this message board the original complaint is in July of 2011.  I am writing this message almost a year later.  Apparently BCBS has issues verifying it´s customers´ info if it takes nearly a year to get to TX from IL.  Now imagine how much time it would take at that rate to go nationwide.

I am betting on it being a scam just based on the above logical reasoning.  If BCBS wants to "verify" my info it should send the request to the same place it sends statements and bills.  Oh wait that would mean BCBS already knows my info and does not need to verify it.

I wouldn't worry too much about it, usually companies hire outside marketing/customer service people to do mass calling / mass updating... that would explain the same number being used.

This is either fraud or really poor business practices. I got a voice mail today saying it was Blue Cross Blue Shield and asking me to call back at 877-282-1378 and enter an 8-digit code. I called the BCBS of IL customer service number on the back of my card to check if the 877 number was legit, and the rep I spoke to couldn't find it in her directory. She also confirmed the phone number they have on record for me, and it was not the number on which I received the voice mail message. The rep thought the message could have been from their subrogation department, so she called that department and they had nothing for me. (FYI, she said the subrogation department always sends letters.) The rep I spoke to was very thorough but found no connection to the 877-282-1378 number.

This is a partner number with Blue Cross Blue Shield of multiple states that is trying to gather member information about an OPT IN for SMS or Email and best number to contact along with perferred contact method.

wish I knew how to block this number.  Ive been called by this number once a week for a month.  I called back and recording said it was BCBS

I received a call today saying it was "BC/BS Of Illinois" . It asked me to call 877-282-1378 an punch in the 8 digit code. I didn't call back.Maybe if more people report these calls as fraud to BCBS maybe they'll stop.

Got the same call as everybody else from phone # 877-282-1378, they gave me a code # also saying they would know it was me by using the code.  I'm not calling back because IF it was legitimate they would post a message for me on my online account.  In my honest opinion it's a scam so I'm not going to fool with it.  Had enough of scammers saying this is my insurance company.  

Had a different kind of scam caller a couple of months ago.  After hours of frustration trying to find all the info and documents they asked for, I called the phone number for the Obama Care website (sorry I can't remember what they call themselves) and the nice lady I talked to said there are a number of different scams going on with them.  She said they would NEVER contact me BY PHONE.  I did not send any documents, I'm disabled and just laid down and cried myself to sleep.  I googled the phone number and found some news/blog articles about the scam and it said the caller was most likely a disgruntled EMPLOYEE  or one that HAD BEEN FIRED and managed to take documents HOME from the insurance applications.  Doesn't that make us feel safe and special???!!!

I got a call and robo message from this number today in 2015, but am not with bcbs anymore because they wanted to jack up my rates an additional 50 bucks a month. That'll get ya dropped every time no matter what type of insurance company you are. I got insurance for half as much as bcbs with another company, with better coverage options. So I don't think bcbs really wants me to take their survey, it wouldn't be pretty.

I also got the call today...ignored the call, it called right back, ignored again, and it called a third time.  I still have BCBS, but I have no interest in what anyone calling me from this # has to talk about.  My premium is paid up, and my payments are automated....We have nothing to talk about.
