didn't know who this was but they texted me earlier today. didn't seem to be trying to sell me anything

This number is a part of Careers Inc, which is a verification service
for employers for hundreds of different job boards. I'm a
representative of Careers and would like to clarify why you're getting
a text from us on this number.

We receive a large quantity of resumes for thousands of positions
across the country, and our job is to verify that your contact
information is correct. Employers use Careers because they get such a
massive response to job postings. It's very hard for any company to
sort through interested applicants - people are not reachable, their
phone numbers are disconnected, or their email is invalid or typo'd on
their resume. This leads to frustration on both ends, where applicants
receive no response and employers get bad contact info for an
otherwise qualified individual.

Careers attempts to contact applicants to confirm that their
information is correct - if it is not, then we help them to correct it
and update the employer on the applicant's status.

We do not ask for any sensitive information such as SSN. We do not
charge for our service. We will never ask you for anything beyond
confirming what's already in your resume on file.

I received the same text message in response to a job posting I submitted my information to.  I called and I was told Careers, Inc. is a third-party verifying agency and wanted to prequalify me for the position I applied for through "lightningfastcareers.com" whom I have never heard of nor have I knowingly applied for employment through.  Is this what job hunting has come down to? Really? It's no wonder why unemployment is at an all time high.

This number has an explanation everywhere that was placed there by the service itself to make themselves look legit. But they are selling their service to anyone doing a search to harrass you. The text message to your phone may be to verify you to bill collectors so don't believe the paragraph that this company has placed on nearly every website out there to try and make themselves look ok. It could be  bill collector finding out if you are at a certain phone number to harass you. they text your cell phone. I don't want my cell phone texted it costs me money.
