- DustinVery legitimate; made a purchase of $550+ and got a call within an hour to verify charges.
- Caller: UW Credit Union - Visa Fraud Protection
- Call type: Unwanted
- MelI've had this number call me too! Call UW Credit Union's number on the back of your card and make sure that it's them. They told me this number was a scam, and that you should never enter your number into an automated service.
- UWCU member| 3 repliesSCAM!!! Don't listen to "dustin," I am sure he is affiliated with the company. Do not answer this call or give them your credit card number.
- Caller: Scammers
- Jesse replies to UWCU member| 2 repliesThis is legit. They do this randomly. Yes, it seems really sketchy and I wish it were a live person, but this is the way the UW does it. However, if you, like me, are uncomfortable with it call a UW branch as soon as they open to verify this is legit.
- JJ replies to JesseWe got a call from this number also, saying it was UWCU's fraud department. We are always skeptical, so we googled the number and found this. We first contacted UWCU and it was in fact FRAUD. Someone got ahold of my husband's debit card number and racked up about $1000 worth of charges! Luckily, the fraud department stopped all but one payment, which we have to send in an affidavit of fraud.
Long story short... The number is VALID! Call them and get it taken care of! - RLegitimate.
I kept getting calls from this number one morning and the voicemail left for me seemed fishy. After coming across this page--with its conflicting replies--I walked into my closest UWCU branch and consulted an employee there. She located this 877 number on her computer and showed it to me after confirming with another employee that it is, indeed, their fraud department.
A (reputable) online retailer had charged my card at like 5am for an order I made around 2pm the previous day, which set off their "trip wires" as indicative of fraud.
Called from my cell phone, which is the number associated with my card, and they could see who I was. Verified some info such as my address, date of birth, and purchase amount and was done in a couple minutes.
If you're skeptical--like me--about entering your card number over the phone, hit 0 to talk to a customer service rep.- Caller: UWCU Fraud Prevention
- jeisenhaI don't know who it is because we don't answer calls from anyone we don't already know.
- Caller: unknown
- Babs Badger| 1 replyYes, this is UWCU Visa Fraud Prevention Service. They have called if (a) they see purchases in another state or (b) they see several unusual/costly transactions in a row. I am skeptical any time anyone calls to ask about credit card anything, but it's legit. Usually it's something like I forgot to alert them that I would be travelling (you can do this on the credit union site) or buy something expensive. One time though, they did alert us to an unapproved charge on our card - and helped us stop that activity.
- mister replies to Babs BadgerI just got a call and they said it was a legal courier and left this number to contact them.
- choiThis is not fraud. I called to UWCU 1-800-533-6773 then checked it is a real call from UWCU.
- MClegitimate fraud protection number. Saved us hundreds of $$ when my wife's card number was hijacked and being used at convenience stores in london
- mrb2563This is Visa Fraud Prevention. I never call back the number, my bank will transfer me so I get to the right department.
- Caller: Visa Fraud Prevention
- R CalhounBeing called from this number
- Caller: 864-506-8752
- JPThis call is LEGIT. This is either UWCU themselves or an outsourcer they hired. They provide you with a generic reference number on their voice mail. You call back, provide the reference number, verify your name (not any sensitive information) and they read the details of a recent questionable transaction to see if it was legit. They will not ask you for your whole account number or your SSN or your mother's maiden name or whatever. They tell YOU the secret details, not the other way around. If they DO start asking for secrets, they MIGHT be a scammer spoofing this normally legit number. I get these calls whenever I make a purchase abroad or an unusual purchase, like a large money order or something like that.
- Caller: UWCU or an authorized contractor
- Call type: Non-profit organization
- Pam| 1 replyLegitimate number. From UW Credit Union verifying payments
- Caller: UWCU
- Call type: Valid
- Anonymous replies to PamNot legit if the number gets SPOOFED!
- Amanda replies to JesseI’m not a member of UW and I get calls from this number too.
- SB| 1 replyThis is a legit number for the UW Credit Union Fraud Alert. I had just gotten hacked.
- Caller: UW Credit Union
- Call type: Valid
- SB replies to SBAlso, I did not call this number back, but rather the card on the back of my debit card. The bank then confirmed they were trying to reach me regarding suspicious charges.
