I haven't called them back yet because I don't know who they are.

You want my theory? I got this text right after I put my resume up on Monster. That's the only place I put my cell phone on the Internet. I don't know why they'd be texting me though.

Wish I knew what this all was about....

I don't get it? It's about a job? What job? I've applied for literally hundreds since graduating.

This number is a part of Careers Inc, which is a verification service for employers for hundreds of different job boards. I'm a representative of Careers and would like to clarify why you're getting a text from us on this number.

We receive a large quantity of resumes for thousands of positions across the country, and our job is to verify that your contact information is correct. Employers use Careers because they get such a massive response to job postings. It's very hard for any company to sort through interested applicants - people are not reachable, their phone numbers are disconnected, or their email is invalid or typo'd on their resume. This leads to frustration on both ends, where applicants receive no response and employers get bad contact info for an otherwise qualified individual.

Careers attempts to contact applicants to confirm that their information is correct - if it is not, then we help them to correct it and update the employer on the applicant's status.

We do not ask for any sensitive information such as SSN. We do not charge for our service. We will never ask you for anything beyond confirming what's already in your resume on file.

Why not just send email or leave VM. Why call from unknown number???

I got the same text.  I want to see Career's answer to your question re a website.  Weird.

This response is [***], careers inc is a scam.  Look them up online, you can find this out yourself.  They basically gather your information and sell it to third parties.  They are able to acquire huge amounts of your personal data because you fill out fake job applications and post your resume.  This gives them work history, age group, education and other info to sell..  They are being pretty consistantly investigated for fraud, and  I think have been sued in Florida.  What are the chances that even 1% of people have incorrect contact information on their resume.  What business would pay for this?

I'm sorry, but your information is not correct. We do not sell your information to third parties. All we are doing is verifying that your contact information is not outdated.

Employers who sign up with job boards can search their database of resumes for applicants who might be a good fit for a particular job. However, many of the matching resumes are outdated. Not everyone who puts their resume up on these sites maintain them. Some people put it up once and then never use the site again. Employers find these resumes, and often discover that the person has moved or changed phone numbers. All we're doing is the preliminary work of rooting out these resumes for the company, ensuring good contact information, so the company can spend its valuable time talking to candidates rather than calling disconnected numbers. You'd actually be surprised how many of the millions of resumes on the major job boards are like this.

Finally, we have never been investigated nor have we been sued for fraud; this assertion is patently false.
