I got a message that said please wait for an important call, but then they hung up.

these guys called fishing for social security and other personal information.

These people called and left a msg on my mom's answering machine saying that my nursing license would be revoked if I didn't settle the matter immediately. At no point did they disclose that this was an attempt to collect a debt. Yes, I owe $. Whenever I get a debt collection call I write down info and then ask them to send me a statement via snail mail. They generally don't respond to the request. I'm going to start taking names and logging each call bc this is bs.

Called my cell. I answered and heard some automated message (which I could barely hear) then I heard someone pick up on the other end. I continued to ask who's calling and they hanged up.

GC Services owns this number (as well as 40-50 others).  GC Services is a large collection agency located in Houston, Texas.   They boast being the largest privately held outsourcing provider of call center management and collection agency services in North America. They mostly collect for student loans.  Beware, they use local phone numbers when calling.
