i have gotten the same message, both very threatening.

got the same call.... i think it might be sss but im not sure so im gonna go register lol, but weird

they called me asking for some name that started with an "A" and last name fernandez sounded like a womans name idk who that is what about yall? also i found out its most likely a scheme to get you scared and give them your information so they can steal all your money

It is a scam perpetrated by a fraudulent law firm/debt collector (they have claimed to be both) in FL. They call from a number that answers as Thomas Brown and Associates, but direct you to call a host of other numbers.  I understand from reading about them, that they are not certified to collect debts in any state - I doubt they are a law firm either. Several different people have answered or left messages using the same two (fake) names. They never actually say you owe them money, but threaten legal action to the "full extent of the law", or reference papers you need to sign.  A search of the other numbers they have called me from shows that other people have been conned into sending them money they did not owe - thinking wrongly that they were paying off a payday loan.  I contacted the FTC about them a month ago, and now they are calling from new numbers.  Report them all they numbers they call from and the ones they refer you to - keep your case number and keep reporting them.  

First, register on the National "Do not call" database: https://www.donotcall.gov/register/reg.aspx
After 30 days, contact the registry again and file a complaint.

Also, file a complaint with the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/.  Give them dates and times and transcribe the messages.  They may ask that you contact the people to tell them to stop harassing you, but in my experience they will just hang-up on you when they realize you aren't going to eagerly send them money.  They also wanted another number that they could contact me at - as if.

left me voice message saying they made several attempts in contacting me.That it was obvious that i was avoiding them.  That if I don't respond back today that legal action will be done.  left a number but not who was calling.

I have received many calls on our business line from this company looking for a woman who has never worked for me.  Today a man saying his name was John Anderson threatened to come after me when I insisted on the mailing address to send a letter to stop the calls. Most do not call list do not allow business line to be list so I do not know (other than the BBB and Att General) how to proceed?

RECEIVED A VOICEMAIL FROM 877 572 0068 THREATENING TO SUE IF I DID NOT CONTACT THEM BEFORE 6PM TODAY.  I AM NOT FAMILIAR WITH THIS COMPANY AND DID NOT RESPOND

All the same for me.  What an ass. Call on caller, just do not answer.

I had a threatening message on my answering machine saying that since they hadn't received my paperwork, If I didn't call by the end of the day, further measures would be taken.  I called the number back, they answered as Thomas Brown and associates & said that they were calling me because of a matter with someone who gave my name as a reference & that person had not fulfilled their commitment with another company who forwarded their info to me.  I told her about the message on my machine, and she said they had received complaints before about the messages left

these punks called and said if i did not respond they were going to have to take the next step and use legal action against me, get in line i told them and hung up.then right after i hung up i recieved a call from this number 702 579 9906 i just played stupid and the guy on the other end hung up

This number has attempted to call three times, the first time they left a message saying a suit was being filed against my name and ss#, I do have some debt and am in the process of paying off my accounts but I do know they must give you the company they are collecting from and the date of delequincy. They told me I would be served at my home within a week if I did not respond. I knew they were a scam since I have paid off most of my debts and the others I am in communication with. So I ignored the call, two days later same number called the man left a message saying if I did not call back today he would serve me the same afternoon. Well as you may have guessed no action. Just ignore them they cannot not and will not do anything, I have learned if you pick up the phone they just give you headache. Make sure if you do, you know your rights, they have to send you a letter stating what company they are collecting for with the original amount of default, if they do not do this they are not legit. I just got a call this morning, but to save me time I pick up and hang up so they can leave a voicemail.

The man was rude and told me that I was Angie and then hung up on me.

This # has left a few messages on my cell.  Today was the first time I actually called back. They stated I was used as a reference for someone I knew and they needed to get in contact with them.  They gave me the person's name and threatened legal action against that person. They wouldnt tell me what the reference was for (i.e car loan, bank loan, etc). I advised them that I did not have any contact info for that person and the guy offered to take my name off of the reference list. I did get the name of the company (Thomas Brown and Associates) so I googled it and found that many people say ita all a big scam.  The funny thing is, I actually know the person whom they are looking for and know for a fact that that person has taken out payday loans in the past...so Im not sure if its really a scam or not :-/

Well at least I know I'm not the only one receiving these calls. Yes and they have tried contacting EVERYONE including a previous company

Yeah, about getting on the donotcall registry.....I've been on it for several years and got this call the other day.  DOESN'T WORK.  Sorry.

If you lead your life honestly like I do, you don't need to worry about these phone calls.  Just delete them and move on with your life.....

I AM curious though if any of us who filed these complaints have something in common...like a certain credit card or something.  Maybe our numbers got sold or stolen.  Who knows.....

I too just received a call from 877-572-0068 telling me to call back before the end of today to sign papers or they will take further action. After reading some of the comments concerning payday loans I know now who its from. In early 2010 I was in need of funds before payday & went on line and filled out a app. for a $250.00 payday loan with CashNet USA. After considering the fees I did not go thru with the loan & never thought of it again. In late 2010 I started getting threating phone calls at work, home & cell phone telling me they were lawyers from the payday loan company and that I failed to make payments on my loan. They said with all the fees that I now owe $5000.00. I always hang up on them, telling I never took a loan out and that can proof it. They had all of my personal info, address, where I worked, SS#, referance's names and numbers. They even said they were sending marshalls over to pick me up. I told them to bring it. This happen again two more times in 2011 & just last week yet another caller claiming to be a lawyer and were going to come to my door the next day, they never showed. All callers had mid eastners acents. I learned the hard way of not appling online for any payday loans. They even called the referances I had listed trying to shake them down too. I called CashNet's fraud dept and reporting all the info I had, names and phone numbers they used. Beware.
