AutoTrader.com saw my car ad on another site and cold called my cell, but didn't leave a messgae. I googled the number 877-579-7780 and found another site and others who have gotten the call. If you call that number back you will get an automated message stating they were intentionally soliciting you for business.  I will certainly never post an ad with that company just based on this technique of aquiring new business.

i got a call from this number a few months ago but it stopped. now, i have gotten called from that number 5 times in the past 10 days. i don't have a car for sale on auto trader or anything of the sort, so i don't know why they have my number.

Yep, I know their technique. I'm on the national no call list too, but they don't cross reference the numbers I guess.

I got this call 3-4 times a day. I dont answer it.I just changed my phone number so there is no way someone could call me. But , yes I do have my car advertised for sale on the local newspaper and now that I see the others information, i believe is the autotrader.I also had calls form local dealerships to try to sell me a new car, because my car is perfect for a trade in. I want to sell my car, not to buy a new one.

I received calls from this number repeatedly over a 3 week period. Even after the vehicle was sold.
Always a recorded message.

I don't know how long they have been calling me. I keep getting unknown numbers on my cell that start off as 877, 866, or 888. I figure if it's something important they can leave a message and I'll call them back if I give a damn about them.

I haven't posted a car ad in the past month. My ads did say leave a message and I'd get back to you. C'mon, I'm not going to call someone back without knowing who it is. I've done that. No we didn't call you (even though they don't ask who it is and I call back from my house phone...morons), no answer, voicemail full, number out of service, or someone I don't want to talk to.

This number is the worst. No voice message and way to many calls. This is the history exactly from my phone:
4/17: 3 calls, 4/21: 3, 4/22: 2, 4/23: 7, 4/24: 8
and once each today and yesterday.

I think it's rediculous, harassing, and unproffesional. Besides, all the sites I did post my car ad to were free. Why am I going to pay for an ad, especially when ppl have to buy auto trader in the store. The publication isn't free to the buyer, so why should the seller have to pay as well?

Oh yea, forgot to mention, I'm reporting this to the better business bearau.

omg...first time using that site that i find the company i'm researching has a rating lower than a B, they have an F!!!!

Yeah, i got a couple calls, but honestly all you have to do is ANSWER YOUR PHONE ONE TIME and tell them that the car is sold. I have used the site in the past and it actually worked really well. I sold my car in 12 days. So if you really do have a car for sale, you might want to consider it. And to the person who said it not worth it because the buyer and seller have to pay: 1. the website is free to browse, which more people use these days anyways. 2. Using free advertising doesn't get you far, you get what u pay for. 3. If someone happens to buy an autotrader magazine, obviously they are interested in buying a car, where as someone who is picking up a newspaper (WHICH THEY PAY FOR) they are not necessarily looking to buy a car or anything for that matter, they might want to look at sports, news, movie times, do cross word puzzles, etc.

Yes, the calls are annoying, I agree...but its really worth the money, and I can't really say anything bad about my experience when I placed my car in there publication...GIVE IT A SHOT AND PICK UP YOUR PHONE!!! Then you won't have to complain about harassing calls!

the person just stated "you still trying to sell your truck" I took as a wrong number I don't even own a truck.

Been Receiving similar calls from 877-579-7780. I also googled the number and come to find out others have similar complaints....I thought telemarketers are no longer allowed legaly to call and solicit business!? Was that law overturned?

I am not sure why they call on cell number... is soliciting allowed on cell? i know they keep doing telemarketing on Landline phones...

I get a call from this no(877 579 7780)every morning at 10am. no one speaks. now when i search on google i found that its from autotrader. I have a car on sale on cars.com. but why the heck are they calling me and no one speaks.

how can i stop this?

They've called me everyday for the last two weeks at 10am and never left a message. It's very aggrivating

I have a car for sale online, and they have been calling me 3 times a day ever since.  So, what I did was give them a personalized ring of MUTE.  This helps the annoyance from that one number.

just got a call from this number as well. autotrader ad has been placed for several weeks now. just posted my car on craigslist as well. perhaps that triggered the call? no vm. i denied the call.

Sometimes autotrader will call with this number to verify your ad posting. I recently listed a run till sold ad with them and they told me to expect a follow up call. It is automated.

Uh, yeah, I got the same call from AutoTrader twice today. Kind of annoying, as I was in school when the phone rang, and my hands were covered in charcoal. Irritating, really.

I listed my car on Craigslist (which of course spawns 500 calls a day from AutoTrader copycats, even though my ad says I don't wish to be contacted for commercial services) and I guess that's why they're calling. Wouldn't be so bad, but I actually have a Run It 'Til It Sells ad on AutoTrader already.

I have my car listed on Autotrader as well as craigslist currently and when this number calls, there is nothing on the other line then it hangs up. I followed the first person's advice and called them back and went through the steps to get me off the list.

Very annoying - - but lets see if that works.
