Completely legit. I called TCF to verify. The security questions they ask you are not your account info.

This call is NOT legit. they want your money! Why would they be calling and immediatly be calling for all you PERSONAL info. It's sketchy and bad news. Don't listen to Tes, Ed, or anyone else telling you it's real and legit. It is best not to ever give your card number and SSN to anyone but directly to your bank.

This is a fraud. Don't give them anything. Banks don't call you and ask for personal info.

It is legit, i called the # on the back of my TCF Visa card, and they gave me that # as Verified by Visa. It's their fraud prevention line - LEGIT!!

It is very legit, thank God they call me today. I have 3 unauthorized transactions  today. Somebody stole my card number and I dont know how. Now they are investigating. Its legit.

I work for a TCF Bank branch in Wisconsin.  This is the correct phone number for our Visa Card Services department.  If you are hessitant, always feel ready to contact our main customer service department at 1-800-TCF-BANK as listed on the back of your card.  They can verify that phone number for you.

This is legit, just called today.  It asks for your number at the beginning, but you can hit the number to talk to a rep and then you don't give them any card information, they only needed my last name to pull up the info.  If a scammer already has access to my card history, I doubt they need any more info from me.

This is a legit number. They ask for your credit card number in an automated service, but if you don't feel comfortable doing that you can speak to a representative. I made a large purchase on my card and they were simply verifying that it was not fraud. You do not give any information that could result in identity theft. (Zip code, the middle 2 #'s on your SSN, name)

I got a voice message from the same number and, by directly calling my bank, was transferred to the number that had originally called me (listed at the beginning of this thread), which they confirmed was a legitimate call from the VISA fraud department on behalf of TCF Bank, therefore not from the bank itself. People are scared enough about scams the way it is. If there are legitimate phone calls from legitimate numbers, over-zealous, uninformed posters kind of defeat the purpose of this site.

Legit Fraud prevention call from TCF Bank

The number 877-585-6486 is from TCF Fraud Protection services, they will contact you if unusual activity is occuring on your account and call you until you respond.  They first confirm your identify,  then confirm activity that caused a flag, which caused them to contact you.  Call them back it is a toll free call.  It's actually nice to know that someone is watching out for any unusual activity occuring on my TCF Bank accounts.

I don't have an account from TCF Bank and never have had an account with them and they called me 4 times just on July 4th. Why would a bank that I have no accounts with be calling me 4 times on a national holiday?
