its a collection agency.  i got the same call and argued with the guy.  they say i owe money to a payday loan that is 7 years ago.  i dont owe them anything as it was paid off.  rude people and they even called my ex husbands parents home saying that i gave their number as a reference.  That would NEVEr happen.

    Collection
Collection companies can not just garnish your wages and can not legally harass you at work either.
Do not pay them, contact your debtor and make arrangements, they will typically settle for a lower amount.

Last option: don't pay anything. It will disappear from your credit file in 6 years.

If you owe a gym, don't pay!
Any blemish to your credit for a gym will be ignored by lenders as they all know gyms are a scam!

Knowledge is power and money in your pocket!

I received the same kind of message. When I called they said they were minutes away from serving my Dad because I used him as a credit reference which is a complete and absolute lie! because I have never used my Dad as a reference. That was about 4 months ago my Dad has yet to be "served" Mine stems from a payday loan I made payments on and stopped because of my financial situation. When they contacted me I said I would pay it off in two installments just send me the paper work showing the amount due, and I'll send them a cashiers check- they refused. I told them it's my legal right to receive proof of the debt - they said  they don't have to do anything in writing -my credit card statement will show the payment. I said yes but it won't show that the debt is paid in full which is why I need something in writing. They said it would go to court I said "well I'll explain to the judge that I asked several times for something in writing to be sent to my address and you guys refused" - "we live in the era of identity theft how do I know for sure you are who you say you are, without written proof?" He then put me on hold and came back with a settlement offer of half the amount, and that I'd receive a letter within 10 business days. Instead of my real cc, I gave him a prepaid cc number we used to let our teenager use that had 0 dollars on it  to hold until that time...10 bus days came and went 4 months later still no letter, they called saying the cc didn't go through I told them I hadn't received a letter, same merry go round. Bottom line if you feel it could be your debt ask for proof in writing. If they're a decent company they will send proof. Otherwise they will use scare tactics, and reference your ss# to get you to pay up. I was told if a company is going to sue they just serve you they don't give you warning...

    Concerned consumer
I have also had dealings with this company and another one both collecting on pay day loans.  This company didn't say anything about serving a summons, however the other company claimed that they had sent a registered letter which I had not claimed and they needed to set an appointment for their service processor to serve a summons to me.  Never heard of anything of the sort and the caller claimed she was with the county in which I reside.  I agree, if you owe a debt you should pay it but these vultures are not playing fair.

    Office call
These people have called my office number several times in the past few weeks...I typically don't answer unknown numbers and today I picked up...a woman said she was calling from TPS & Associates then said if she didn't hear from me she was forwarding "paperwork" - yeah right...she wanted me to verify my information and social...I think NOT...I told her I wasn't verifying anything unless she told me what she was calling about...she didn't so I hung up...then I checked my voice mail...two messages from her and she left this number...I'm so glad I took the time to Google it...I know I don't owe anybody anything...yet anyway - but this site is good for information...I'm glad I found it...scammers!
