- Caller: va
- Call type: Fax
- Mickey| 1 replyWeird called during the blizzard when every govt office was closed but left no message called 2 times per day so if it is the VA, which has not called or sent mail for years then probably a scam.
- ChattanoogaCaller stated she was VA Rep. Needed my social security number and dependents socials.
Totally False. This is not the VA.- Caller: V.A.
- Terri parker| 1 replyI received a message from this number, woman claimed to be a rep for the va dependency claims. I called back and she answered Va and I asked what she needed. She needed a grad date from my sons junior college. I'm afraid I gave her my SSN and birthdate, then I looked this number up on google and am sick to my stomach as I think I just had my identity stolen...please advise....
- Caller: Va
- Orlando lHernandezGot a call to give dependent birthdate and my social security number
- MarkI just got a call from this number. She read through her barrage of information which included a claim to be a VA processing center. Then she asked for my date of birth. I asked, "How can I know this is not a scam?" At this point she hung up.
- ErinThis is a valid VA number. You can contact the VA to verify it. I received the same phone call asking me to confirm information in regards to my kids information. I was suspect after seeing this post, so to confirm I visited va.gov and called the 800 number for benefits. They did confirm a legitimate call.
- AmyI recieved a call from this number also. It is a legitimate V.A. Number. They called to verify my son's college start date...my birthdate and the last 4 of my social security #. All perfectly on the up and up.
- Caller: V.A.
- Formerly FC2 USS Vicksburg replies to MickeyI got the same call and I freaked out. I gave the caller my last four and my date of birth so I panicked and put locks on all my credit Agency reports. The next day I verified that this was legitimate by calling the VA directly. This is not a scam. In Navy Boot Camp they call you Chuck. The most powerful person on your ship is probably the chief boatswains mate. In the fleet nobody gives a damn about your gig line. You can find HT's sleeping in the angle irons, but who cares because their recruiters lied to them about being welders and not turd chasers. Calling someone shipmate is a way of disrespecting them not respecting them. Now you know I'm real and so was this call. Don't panic like I did. I posed this on another website as well to make sure others don't freak out like I did. Another note to prove I'm a real vet is that when you use your VA home benefit you need a VA inspection. Also signalmen are skivie waivers.
- luckSaid to be from VA asking for dependent verification info. Received letter several months ago from DOD not to give any info out over the phone if we received any calls. If this is the VA they should send requests by mail. Find it very strange.

- Mike H replies to Terri parkerYou need to contact the three credit agencies (Experian, Transunion and Equifax) and ask that a fraud alert be placed on your SSN. And make sure you give the credit agencies a valid phone (preferably a cell, as you'll most likely be carrying it with you just about everywhere) and email address, so that if you apply for credit, they can contact you directly and validate you made the request (or if someone else tries to apply for credit in your name, you can refute it). You should also contact the VA and your financial institutions (bank, credit union, credit card companies you currently have accounts with, etc.) and service providers (cable, cell phone, utilities, etc.) and validate your personal info (phone #s, email address[es], home address, etc.). Ask that a second passcode, password or other additional account access code be placed on all your accounts. For example, I had my cell phone provider place an additional password on my account, so I must put in my user ID and password on the logon screen, then a second pop-up asks me for my additional passcode/password.
The Federal Trade Commission website has a page detailing these and other actions you can take if you suspect your identity has been stolen. - Army VetReceived call twice from rep stating they were with the VA dependency claims and wanted to update my dependent information. I spoke with VA hospital to set up an appointment for care, told them about the call I received and they stated that the VA would not ask that information. Information is updated when you arrive at a clinic or online through ebenefits.
