Allegedly from Progressive Insurance; caller will ask you for personal information regarding a claim filed for a hit and run accident.  DO NOT GIVE ANY PERSONAL INFORMATION.  When we questioned the caller, she became agitated and hung up. When this number is called back, you will always get a busy signal.  I am reporting this number to Progressive Insurance, the local police department, the FTC and my state's attorney general.

Concerning my previous post about this phone number: when I reported the incident to Progressive Insurance on their 1-800 number, I was treated courteously and with great respect.  They were very concerned about this issue.  They took a report from me, gave me a report number for reference, and verified for me that in fact there is NO policy in our name with Progressive.  We KNEW we did not have a policy with them, but they double-checked for us to alleviate our fears that we might have been victims of identity theft.  

Let me make it clear:  the phone call we received from 1-877-776-4737 was from a woman ALLEGEDLY calling from Progressive Insurance, and she asks for personal information, which the insurance companies will NOT do.

My caller knew I had been in an accident that morning.  He knew details about the inccident he only could have known had he either been there or listened in on a line where the inccident was discussed. He said the other person involved in the accident was his client and claimed responsbility for the accident. This seemed ok to me because she had done so at the seen.  Her insurance provider was also progressive she said, and she also had said they would contact me.  However when he asked me for personal information i refused and asked him to call me back later.  He never did and every time I redialed him the line was always busy. I typed his number into google and this came up. I called progressive right away and told their fraud department. the person said his name was adam and he was with progressive. the person who deals with accidents in boston with progressive, is also named adam. thus this person knows key details about progressive's employees.

Just missed a call from them today.  Tried to call back and busy.  I had an rear ended yesterday and Progressive is my insurance company. Very interesting.......

Trust me.  This number is from Progressive.  I am in the process of settling a claim with Progressive, their client hit me.  If they called you for info regarding a hit and run, maybe you were the one who was running.

Just had an experience IDENTICAL to RW. Allegedly an agent from Progressive Insurance for a woman that filed a claim against us (Catherine Roberts); Caller asked for my insurance company and personal information regarding a claim filed for a hit and run accident that supposedly occurred at the end of May, but we have not been in any accidents. The caller kept trying to convince us that he was trying to help us by avoiding a lawsuit. When this number is called back, I always got a busy signal.  I am reporting this number to Progressive Insurance and the local police department. I SUGGEST NOT GIVING ANY INFORMATION TO THE CALLER. If you are not comfortable just ignoring the issue, you can file a claim with your insurance provider and let your agent handle the matter.

This is a number for Progressive Insurance and it is only for out going calls. We had a call from this number and they knew all the information about the accident we had been in. They never asked us for personal information, they did give us a referance number and a call back number to contact them, again if needed. They also set up the repairs in the same phone call.

Was in a hit and run recently, Progressive is our insurance carrier, not at all concerned about this call or number.

It is progressive.  I have the insurance and another driver on my policy was the one in an accident.

The call I received gave detailed information about the accident and also stated the purpose of the call was to notify me that the claim by the other drive was settled.

If you are not insured with Progressive, the phone call to you is because you were involved with an accident with their client.  Giving information is not bad as long as you don't give your SS# or admit any fault

This number is from Progressive.  We are an insurance agency.  I use this web site to verify all numbers on our caller ID from calls we missed over the weekend. Their regular contact number where we reach them is 877-776-2436.  The response above is correct about this number being an outgoing line.

The number called twice today and didn't leave a voicemail. I called back and an automated message said that I probably called the number in error, but I was in luck because it was the "rewards center." Pure crap.

I might as well tell my story to, i was at the casino winning all kinds of money, when i left wasnt even worried about my car, got home went to bed the next day someone called my home phone from this number claiming to be from progressive, i advised him i wasnt in an accident, however knew i was at the casino and the make and model of my car. So i was intrigued went out to my car and ther was a HUGE black streak on my bumper and my taillight was broken. he called this morning and stated an insurance adjuster will be out tommorrow to assess the damages. So i really dont think it is a scam, when i called progressive at there 800 number as listed on the web site they took the claim number and stated i did in fact have a claim. So if they fix my car good, i really think there is just a routing problem with this number. Hope this information helps....

I got a call from this number and the person asked me for personal details. He used the name of a local Progressive representative and knew my personal details like my plate number, policy number, and when I'd been in an accident. Obviously my scam detector was going off. Then he said something about the 877 number being their outgoing line. But after I rattled off some Bible verses I discovered that I was in fact speaking with the Devil himself. While I was on the phone he sacrificed three calves to himself and ever since I've had terrible luck with my cooking.

Yeah, this is definitely Progressive. I've been talking back and forth with them for awhile now and I missed the call but they left a message. Same agent I've been talking to for awhile. Definitely not a scam.
