Recently, I have been getting calls from this number every few days. They are a collection agency. BCR (Bureau of Collections Recovery) The call is made with a Robo-dialer, and pre-recorded voice. Sometimes the auto-dialer will not play the message unless you say something first in a rather loud voice ... like you might the second or third time you say "Hello" when nobody replies. It asks that you call this number - 877-788-1070.

I had a run-in with this place about a year ago. Then it was a real person on the phone, but might as well have been a recording. They were calling in an attempt to collect a debt for AT&T. I would explain that I didn't have any debts that were unpaid, or that I was behind on. And that I did not now, nor had I ever, done any business with AT&T. My phone service is through a local co-op. My cell phone is also through the co-op, so I have no (direct) business with AT&T. When I explained this to them, they would ask for the last 4 digits of my social security number, and if I gave it to them, they would often immediately hang up. At first, I thought that would be enough to stop the calls, but it wasn't. After many calls, I would refuse to give them any information (because they would hang up on me) until I could talk to their supervisor. The initial call would always be made by a female, but a male would come to the phone when I would demand to speak to their boss. Where the female would simply hang up on me when I gave them the information they needed to verify that I was not the person they wanted, the male voice that came to the phone would just get smart with me, and make insults insinuating that I was lying. Once, I received a call where I was asked to wait while another male voice came on the line. I asked this person where he got my phone number. He asked me, Why, are you hiding from someone?" I told him that,"No, I wasn't hiding from someone ... where did you get my phone number?" But he would not give me an answer to that, I kept repeating that question, and eventually, he hung up on me.

At one point I was told that I owed AT&T $1800.00. A few days later, I was told $1900.00! Not only have I never done any business with AT&T, I have never been late on a phone bill!

Obviously, I did manage to find out that they were calling for AT&T, in an attempt to collect a debt for them. In the end, I had to report AT&T to the FCC. It wasn't long after I did, I got a call (and a letter) from someone at AT&T (not BCR). Once the AT&T person verified that I was the wrong person, they agreed to stop BCR from harassing me (if I would agree to bring my FCC complaint to a closure). After that, I didn't get anymore calls from this place until recently. And now I am getting the robo-calls.

If it keeps up, I am going to file another complaint with the FCC. Trust me when I say this ... it doesn't do any good to call BCR. I tried that many, many times. Also, they have a web sight which shows what is supposed to be a link to one of their management personnel, but it is a fake link (not hypertext, just a picture of typed words) ... clicking on it does nothing. Here are the phone numbers that would appear on my caller ID when they would call me ...

If you are being wrongly accused of owing a debt to AT&T, (verify this first) and are being harassed by this bunch, then don't waste your time with them - it won't do you any good. And don't bother calling the Better Business Bureau (BBB). I did, and I did not get a reply from them until the matter had already been cleared up by the FCC. In the reply that BBB sent me, they stated that they had decided in favor of BCR??? What a joke! Save yourself some time and file a complaint with the FCC against AT&T. You can google "FCC" and get their web site, where you will find a place to file your complaint.

    PHISHING ALERT!!!

In short, if you answer a call from this number, DO NOT give them ANY personal information. Start by INSISTING that they give you their full name, the name, address and phone number of the company they work for. IF they are a legitimate debt collection service, they should be willing to do that.

I have been receiving calls from this number at least once a day for several weeks and let it go to voice mail but they never leave a message.

    Today I answered the call.

A computerized voice used my first and last name and asked me to hang up if I was not that person. I stayed on the line. Next, a male voice that sounded like a real person with an Midwestern American accent again used my correct first and last name and asked that I hang up if that was not my name. ( I tried to ask a question but there was no response because this too was a computerized voice ) After a few seconds the same voice used my first and last name again and asked me to hold on the line only if that was my name. It is my name so I held on.

A few clicks and a few seconds later, yet another male voice, this time with an East Indian accent came on the line and explained that this was an attempt to collect a debt and asked me to give him my full name. Since i had already confirmed my first and last name twice I gave him that. He immediately asked for my middle name. I told him I would be happy to confirm any information he had but would not be giving out any more personal information.

He again tried to press me to give him my middle name. I again explained that I do not give out personal information but that I would confirm any details about me that he had on file.

He began to accuse me of trying to hide from my creditors and that things would go better for me if I cooperated. Then he asked for my address.

    I refused.

I then asked him to tell me his name, the name of his company and before i could ask for a phone number and/or address, he hung up.

I'm happy to say I've never had a debt turned over to collectors so I don't know how they operate but I suspect they must be willing to confirm they are who they claim to be.

I got a call from 877-788-1060 on my cell phone. They said they are from BCR-Bureau of Collection Recovery. Said, I never heard of them or who they were calling for. They must have wrong #. Man on other end of call had Indian accent, and wouldn't give me any other info, so I just hung up. From some quick online research, it seems they are a collection agency of some sort for cell phone companies maybe other types too. I've been with Verizon since cell phone inception and have always paid my bill, so I have no idea where these people are getting their info from.
