Received a call from these people twice.They identified themselves as calling from Sally Mae Department of Education. The first time they asked for a specific person - stating they had applied for a student loan and had given my number as a reference. I did not look for a CID number the first time. The second time they called they left this number for a call back with an ext. I called them back to let them know they had the wrong number. I later looked at the CID information on my cell phone and it read "No number".  It was odd that every person I spoke to started out by asking for a social security number.

I had a voice message with pretty much the same thing as you got.  Supposedly they were looking for someone who I've never heard of.  I was suspicious so Googled and found your comment and some others.  I definitely won't return the call.

If you're wondering whether or not this is a scam, think about how you arrived at this website. You Googled the number that called you, right? If this was a legitimate number from Sallie Mae, wouldn't their website have come up instead of all these "Who Called Me?" websites? Just think that through for a second. If you don't believe me, search the number of a business you're familiar with. It should turn up their website immediately.

The people posting on here saying this number is legit are probably the scammers themselves. Do not call these people back and do not give them any of your personal info.

I've gotten a call from this number three times now and all three times they left the same message asking for a Bernadette and to continue with the account for student loans. One my name isn't Bernadette two I haven't applied for student loans and three I haven't gone to school yet to even have student loans. At first I was gonna call back and tell them they had the wrong number but then I found all the different sites with reverse phone searchs instead of actual loan places. Do not answer nor call back.

The descriptive post made by the poster "w" though dated and call tactics listed are all violations starting with "Dodd Frank Act" 'UDAAP" leading to violations within state and federal FDCPA, TCPA, FCRA, and others. These corrupt bullying violations are all within authority under Department of Education's debt collection / loan servicing networks.
